Dear Parents and Students,
It has been a busy beginning to the second
grading period here at TBT.
Fall is always an exciting
time of year, and it has
been no exception here.
This is the time of year
where there are lots of
events for students to participate in. Homecoming
was a great success—our
football team won against
Plant City High School and
the dance held at Centro
Austriano in Ybor was
beautiful and fun. Spirit
Week garnered lots of participation from both the
faculty and the student
body, and our annual Bras
for a Cause fundraiser was
a success. We have a lot to
be proud of, and even
more to look forward to
in the weeks and
months ahead.
As we continue toward the second semester, it is important that
we all keep our focus on
the things that make us
one of the top schools
in the county. Saturday
School has begun, offering another way for students to get tutoring in
their core classes. Check
the tutoring schedule
for dates and times of
Saturday School. Students who attend Saturday School often excel
academically and
achieve higher levels of
success. I can’t wait to

Meet Our Newest AP of Student Affairs, Dr. Johnson!
Meet the New AP of Student Affairs, Dr. Johnson
We would like to extend a warm welcome to a new addition to
our Titan family. Dr. Johnson comes to us from McLane Middle School,
and is our new AP of Student Affairs. She is a product of the Hillsborough County school system herself, having graduated from Brandon High School. After high school, she studied Mass Communications
at USF, and then went on to earn her Specialist and Doctorate degrees
from Argosy University.
Dr. Johnson worked for Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation Services for 8 years, and it was there that she realized her passion for helping students. She began as an English teacher at McLane
Middle School, but after five years she became an administrator. In
total, she spent an impressive 14 years at McLane. It was there that
she met a Tech favorite, Deputy Robinson, where he was serving as
the School Resource Officer. When a position opened up here at Tech,
he encouraged her to join our faculty.
In her free time, Dr. Johnson loves to read and spend time with
her husband and two-year-old son. She also loves to dance, and even
used to dance competitively. When asked if she had any advice for
Tech students, she said, “There is life after high school. Set your goals
for what you want to achieve
and stay focused. Without
hard work, you won’t accomplish your goals.” You can
find Dr. Johnson’s office, in
the Main Office. She works

2014 GREAT AMERICAN TEACH-IN
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Parents, community members, and friends of Tampa Bay Technical High School,
make plans now to be a part of the annual Great American Teach-In, on Thursday,
November 20, 2014. We are looking for volunteers to teach one class or teach all
day in this community-wide effort to give you a taste of teaching.
You don't need teaching experience, just enthusiasm and a desire to share with
students something about your career, your experiences, your hobby, or yourself.
We want you to carry some key messages into our classrooms, including the importance of staying in school and the value of each individual student.
The Great American Teach-In is a perfect opportunity for parents, business leaders, and community members to let our students know we care about them. The
idea is simple - join us on November 20, 2014, and teach a class or two, whatever
your schedule permits.
We'll do our part in giving you some suggestions and preparing you for this
teaching experience.

Great American Teach-In.

What is the SAT Subject Area Test? The College Board offers numerous Subject Area
Tests for students to verify ability in specialized academic areas. AFTER appropriate
scores are attained on the SAT Reasoning Test, and if referred or recommended by the college/university of acceptance, then students may register for the SAT Subject Area Test
(s). These tests are not offered on every SAT test date, so check your registration carefully! If you register for the SAT Subject Area Test in error, be sure to make the correction with the College Board PRIOR to the testing date. There is a charge for the correction.
Should you take the ACT optional Writing test? The writing portion of the ACT is optional. Many colleges, however, are beginning to use this portion of the test for placement
purposes. Some colleges are using it as part of the evaluation process. The be certain of
what your college is looking for, check with an Admissions Counselor at that school, or the
college's website.

Dear families,
In an effort to improve your child’s dining experience,
Student Nutrition Services (SNS) is in the process of updating the look of your school’s serving areas. We are looking
forward to enhancing the merchandising of food selections,
and making service more convenient for our customers and
employees!
Rest assured, while under construction SNS will continue to provide complete and nutritious school meals to
students. Lunch options will include selections such as Ham
& Cheese Wraps, Dannon Yogurt Munchables, and Turkey &
Cheese Subs. In addition, daily servings of fruits and vegetables will be provided, as always. To view a complete menu,
visit www.sdhc.k12.fl.us/sns and click on “Resources” to
view the menus. Go to “Construction Site Menus” for the
weekly menu. You may also download the free “School
Lunch by NutriSlice” app on your smart phone and view
“Construction Site Menus”.

in 1969 as Tampa Bay Vocational Technical School.
TBT’s program is now an exceptional blend of
academic rigor and technical relevance. A dedicated
faculty provides instruction in everything from
advanced placement to certified technical skill courses.
The campus resembles a community college campus
with large laboratory facilities for several unique
technology programs. The students must apply to this
school and transportation is provided.
