Challenge
When the robot reaches its minimum or maximum range of motion, the excess
length of the Robotrax cable carrier either strikes the robot arm or experiences
crushing / kinking.
Design Goal
•
Actively pull back excess carrier length caused by large range of motion
as well as high accelerations.
• Safely guide cables in pull back unit.
• Increase cable carrier service life.
• Allow for easy system assembly.
• Insert and replace cables and hoses without disconnecting the carrier.
• Ensure pull back force to be adjustable.
• Design universal system for all Robotrax sizes.
• Develop low-maintenance or maintenance-free system.

Application Areas
When is a Pull Back Unit
recommended?
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
For rapid, repetitive movements and
large range of motion, such as industrial
robots.
.
If cables are to be guided in the
ROBOTRAX application in a defined
movement.
To increase service life for Robotrax
cable carrier and cables.
If cables are to be inserted without
disconnecting the carrier from the robot.
To ensure easy cable replacement.
If pull back force needs to be adjustable.
To prevent Robotrax cable carrier from
crushing/kinking and to protect it from
striking against parts of the robot.
When is a Pull Back Unit
not recommended
If Robotrax cable carrier does
not have excess length.
• If installation space is limited
(check available space at the
robot arm and during robotic
movement).
• If weight of pull back unit is too
high for robot system.
•
Most important features at a glance
•
•
•
•
•
Pulling the Robotrax cable carrier out of the enclosure (Pull Back Unit)
and retracting it back safely and constantly adjust carrier length, as
needed, during robotic movement.
Increased service life of the Robotrax system and drastically reduced
downtime for repair caused by excessive wear.
Rigid and torsion-free enclosure may be mounted directly to the robot
arm as an option.
To safely guide the cables in the Pull Back Unit, a short UNIFLEX
Advanced-series cable carrier traveling inside the enclosure is attached to
the end of the 3D flexible cable carrier.
Inside the Pull Back Unit the cables are guided in a defined movement
without dropping below the minimum bend radius.
