To Charles County Government Global Risk Of Dementia Could Be Reduced With Lifestyle Choices The just-released World Alzheimer’s Report focuses on modifiable risk factors that have the potential to protect people from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. With the prevalence of dementia rising as the population increases, report authors urge a focus on controlling risk factors. The report makes several key points. Evidence suggests that people who enter older ages with better developed, healthier brains are likely to live longer, happier and more independent lives, with a much reduced chance of developing dementia. Brain health promotion is important across the life span, but particularly in mid-life, as changes in the brain can begin decades before symptoms appear. Control Energy Assistance The Electric Universal Service Program (EUSP) is a state program to assist eligible customers with paying their electric bills. Schedule Your Annual Medicare Part D Review Open enrollment is the time for Medicare beneficiaries to review their Medicare Prescription Drug Plan and make any necessary changes. New beneficiaries can select a plan and find out how the plan will work for them. Open enrollment is October 15 through December 7, 2014. State Health Insurance Program Counselors will be available to educate and provide assistance on the following dates; October 20, 27, November 3, 10, 17, 24 and December 1. If you require assistance choosing or changing your Medicare Part D Prescription plan, please contact your local SHIP staff member at 301-609-5712 to schedule an appointment. 10 of diabetes and high blood pressure along with measures to encourage smoking cessation and to reduce cardiovascular risk has the potential to lower the risk of dementia even in late-life. Obesity and lack of physical activity are important risk factors for diabetes and hypertension. While there is no evidence strong enough at this time to claim that lifestyle changes will prevent dementia on an individual basis, tackling the global burden and threat of non-communicable diseases will be strategically important, efficient and cost effective.
