Programmes, 2015
Applications in the prescribed format are invited through Online Registration from eligible
candidates for admission to the M.Phil., Integrated M.Phil-Ph.D. and Direct Ph.D. programmes,
2015 under various academic departments of the University.
Candidates shall carry out their work in the Departments of the University situated at the
University Head Quarters, Kalady (except for Urdu which is conducted at Regional Centre, Koyilandy)
under a recognized guide for M.Phil and Integrated M.Phil-Ph.D. programmes in one of the following
subjects.

Eligibility:- Candidates who possess Master’s Degree in the subject concerned or in the related subjects
or subjects specified by the Department with B+ (B Plus) grade of this University or an equivalent degree
with not less than 55% marks of any other Indian or Foreign Universities recognized by this University are
eligible to apply for the M.Phil. and Integrated M.Phil-Ph.D. programmes. A relaxation of 5% marks is
allowed in the case of applicants belonging to SC/ST communities as per the guidelines of the UGC and
hence applicants belonging to the said two communities who have secured B Grade or 50% marks are
eligible to apply for admission. Post Graduate students in English/Hindi/Malayalam/Sanskrit and
Comparative Literature and Linguistics can apply for the Interdisciplinary course in Translation Studies
and those who have Post Graduate Degrees in Gender Studies, Women Studies, Languages and Social
Sciences can apply for admission to the M.Phil Programme in Gender Studies. Those candidates awaiting
results of P.G. Examinations can also apply and shall be granted provisional admission if they qualify for
the same. However, such candidates shall produce their P.G. marklists and qualifying certificates within
three months from the date of admission failing which the provisional admissions granted to them are
liable to be cancelled. Applicants for the Direct Ph.D Programme who are employed as teachers in
Universities, Schools, Colleges on permanent basis under Government/Quasi Government services shall
be eligible for registration to the Ph.D Programme on part time basis.
Related subject: Related subject can be in any discipline having some converging issues with the native
subject offered by the departments concerned. Applicants who have obtained their Qualifying Degrees
in related subjects can be granted admission only if their research is of an interdisciplinary nature. The
Research Committees of the departments will ensure it.
Admission:- Admissions to the M.Phil., Integrated M.Phil-Ph.D. and Direct Ph.D programmes shall be on
the basis of an Entrance Examination and interview conducted by the University. UGC-JRF qualified
candidates, teachers of Universities, Government Colleges and Aided Colleges with a minimum of 2
published works in referred research journals are exempted from the Entrance Examination for
admission to M.Phil and Integrated M.Phil-Ph.D Programmes.. UGC NET/SLET candidates are not
exempted from the Entrance Test. Regular Teachers of Universities/Colleges with a minimum service of
5 years are exempted for the Entrance Test for admission to the Direct Ph.D Programme. In each subject
there shall be a rank list prepared, based on the marks secured by the candidates in the entrance exam
and interview conducted by the Research Committees of the academic departments concerned.
Admissions shall be made from the rank list.
Those candidates who possess the M.Phil. Degree of this University with B+ grade or equivalent
M.Phil. degree of other Universities recognized by the University and who wish to register for the Ph.D.
programme can seek direct registration to the Ph.D programme, subject to their fulfilling all other
relevant conditions. Applicants seeking admission to the Direct Ph.D. programme in Ayurveda should
have Masters Degree in Ayurveda from a recognized University and approved by C.C.I.M. Admission to
the Direct Ph.D. programme in Ayurveda shall be on the basis of the Entrance Examination conducted by
the University and the interview conducted by the Research Committee.
Applicants are directed to submit their applications for admission to the M.Phil.,
Integrated M.Phil-Ph.D. and Direct Ph.D. programmes 2015 through online in the University’s
Websites : www.ssus.ac.in & www.ssusonline.org on or before 31.10.2014.
A printed copy of the filled in applications with the following documents shall be sent to the Heads of
Departments concerned so as to be received by them on or before 05.11.2014. The cover containing the
printed copy should be superscribed specifying the name of the programme and the Department.
a. Attested copies of marklists of the qualifying examination.
b. Attested true copies of the Provisional/ Original Degree Certificate.
c.
No Objection Certificate from the employer, in the case of employed applicants.
d. Eligibility Certificate (in the case of candidates who have passed the qualifying examination
from outside Kerala).
e. University Chalan receipt or Demand Draft for Rs.150/- towards Entrance Examination fee
/Ph.D application fee.
f. True copy of Community/Caste Certificate (in the case of candidates eligible for reservation).
g. True copy of the P.G. Degree/M.Phil. Degree & Provisional Degree Certificate as the case may
be.
h. Candidates with UGC/JRF shall produce proof thereof.
The last date of receipt of applications through online is 31.10.2014. The Entrance
Examination will be held on 19.11.2014. The rank list will be published on 25.11.2014. The M.Phil.
and Integrated M.Phil.-Ph.D. programmes are scheduled to commence from 03.12.2014 onwards
and Direct Ph.D. programme will commence after the admissions to the M.Phil. and Integrated
M.Phil.-Ph.D. programmes are completed.

1.0
Candidates who wish to register for M.Phil., Integrated M.Phil-Ph.D. and Direct Ph.D.
programmes, 2015, may submit the applications through online in the prescribed form to
the Registrar, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady. They can register their
applications through the websites: www.ssus.ac.in & www.ssusonline.org
2.0
Courses in the following subjects except in Urdu are offered at the University Head
Quarters, Kalady for M.Phil., Integrated M.Phil.– Ph.D and Direct Ph.D Programmes. The
M.Phil, Integrated M.Phil.– Ph.D and Direct Ph.D programmes in Urdu are offered at

2.1.Candidates who possess a recognized Masters degree in the subject concerned or in the
related subjects or subjects specified by the Departments with not less than B+ Grade of
this University or an equivalent degree with not less than 55% marks of any other Indian
or Foreign Universities recognized by this University are eligible to apply for the M.Phil.
and Integrated M.Phil-Ph.D Programmes of the University. SC/ST candidates need require
a minimum of 50% marks only or B Grade in their Master’s Degree. Students who have
MA Degree in English/Hindi/Malayalam/Sanskrit/Comparative Literature & Linguistics
can apply for interdisciplinary course in Translation Studies and those who have Post
Graduate Degrees in Gender Studies, Women Studies, Languages and Social Sciences can
apply for admission to the M.Phil Programme in Gender Studies.
2.2 Those candidates who are awaiting results of their PG examinations can also apply and are
eligible to be granted provisional admission based on their performance in the Entrance
Test.
However, such candidates shall produce their PG marklists and provisional
certificates within three months from the date of admission failing which the provisional
admissions granted to them are liable to be cancelled.
2.3
Related subjects can be in any discipline having some converging issues with the native
subjects offered by the departments concerned.
Applicants who have obtained their
Qualifying Degrees in related subjects can be granted admission only if their research is of
an interdisciplinary nature. The Research Committees of the departments will ensure it.
3.0 Admissions to the M.Phil., Integrated M.Phil.-Ph.D. and Direct Ph.D programmes shall be
on the basis of an Entrance Examination and Interview conducted by the University.
UGC-JRF holders, the teachers of Universities, Government Colleges and Aided colleges
with a minimum of two published works in referred journals are exempted from the
Entrance Examination for admission to the M.Phil and Integrated M.Phil-Ph.D
Programmes.
UGC NET/SLET candidates are not exempted from the Entrance
Examination. Regular teachers of Universities/Colleges with a minimum service of 5
years are exempted from the Entrance Test for admission to the Direct Ph.D. Programme.
In each subject there shall be a rank list prepared, based on the marks secured by the
candidates at the Entrance Examination, and interview conducted by the Research
Committee of the academic department concerned. Admissions shall be made from the
rank list.
4.0
The Entrance Examination will carry 100 marks, out of which 80 marks are for the written
test and the remaining 20 marks will be for the Interview/Group discussion conducted by
the Research Committee of the department concerned.
4.1
Candidates are directed to download the Hall Ticket from the University website w.e.f.
12.11.2014 onwards, using the pass word allotted at the time of online registration.
4.2
The candidates who secure 50% marks or above in the Entrance Examination alone will be
considered for admission. The candidates belonging to the SC/ST communities require
only a minimum of 45% marks in the Entrance Examination. They will be eligible for all
relaxations as per the UGC guidelines. In the absence of sufficient number of candidates
from the SC/ST categories the vacancies shall be filled up as per rules, after re-notification.
The reservation policy adopted by the State/Central Governments and UGC for the students
belonging to SC/ST, OEC, and OBC Communities from time to time will be followed. For
this, each department will be treated as a separate unit.
4.3
The number of candidates to be admitted to the M.Phil. and Integrated M.Phil.-Ph.D.
programmes in a department will be decided by the Research Committee of the department
based on vacancy of berths and availability of supervising teachers.
5.0
All candidates who get admission to the M.Phil. and Integrated M.Phil.-Ph.D. programmes should
undergo Course Work.
5.1 Applicants for the Direct Ph.D Programme who are employed as teachers in Universities/School
Teachers/College Teachers on permanent basis under Government/Quasi Government services
shall be eligible for registration to the Ph.D. Programme on part time basis. The maximum period
permissible for part time research scholars to submit Ph.D. thesis will be six years from the date of
registration to the Ph.D. programme. An extension of one more year for them may be granted by
the Vice-Chancellor on the recommendation of the Doctoral Committee, if necessary.
6.0 Admission to the Direct Ph.D. programme will be conducted only after admissions to the M.Phil. and
Integrated M.Phil.-Ph.D. programmes are completed.
7.0
Candidates who possess the M.Phil. Degree of this University with B+ Grade or equivalent
M.Phil. Degree of other Universities recognized by the University will be admitted to the
Direct Ph.D. programme subject to their fulfilling the other relevant conditions. Such
candidates need to appear for the Entrance Examination conducted by the University and
interview conducted by the Research Committee of the department concerned. Interview
will be based on the written research proposal of the candidates. Availability of approved
guides, their willingness to guide on a specific research proposal, vacancy of seats etc. will
be taken into account for granting admission.
8.0. Direct Ph.D. programme in Ayurveda
8.01 Eligibility :- Masters Degree in Ayurveda from a recognized University and approved by
C.C.I.M.
8.02 Admission :- Admission to the Direct Ph.D. programme in Ayurveda shall be on the basis
of the Entrance Examination conducted by the University and the interview conducted by
the Research Committee of the Department of Ayurveda.
All candidates who get
admission to the Direct Ph.D. programme in Ayurveda shall do a Course Work in the
following areas for a minimum period as specified by UGC.
a) Research Methodology and Bio/Medical Statistics
b) Trends and advances in interdisciplinary research
c) Development of integrated research models
d) Scientific/Technical Language and Literature in Sanskrit
Teachers working in Colleges/Universities shall be permitted to convert to Part Time
research after the successful completion of the Course Work.
9. 0 An Entrance Examination fee of Rs.150/- should be paid along with the application by way
of SSUS Chalan Receipt which can be remitted at any branch of Union Bank of India. The
said fee can also be remitted by way of D.D. drawn in favour of the Finance Officer, Sree
Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, payable at Union Bank of India, Kalady
Branch. Applicants should write their names, address with phone numbers and purpose on
the reverse side of the D.D.

Ragging is strictly prohibited vide Letter No.F1-08/06 dated 16.05.2008 from the UGC. If
any written complaint is received about ragging, it will be viewed seriously and reported
to the Commission and stringent action will be taken against the guilty.
16.0
The Regulation for M.Phil., Integrated M.Phil.-Ph.D. and Direct Ph.D. programmes
December 2009 amended from time to time will be applicable for the above admission.
17.0
The M.Phil and Integrated M.Phil-Ph.D. Programmes will commence from 3rd December
2014 onwards.
