will be a Mass of Remembrance for all deceased
members of our Holy Cross families.
We invite all people to join us,
in this yearly Memorial Liturgy remembering
any of your loved ones
no matter when they died or from what parish.
May they rest in Peace. Amen
You are invited to bring a photo or snapshot of
your loved one(s), to be placed on our “Table of
Remembrance.” Refreshments will be served in our

Celebration in Honor of
Blessed Grimwald
NEXT Sunday, November 16
3:00 PM Mass
This year Holy Cross will again
celebrate the the 19th year of the
beatification Blessed Grimwald
Santamaria. Father John Reif will preach. Our special Icon
depicting Blessed Grimwald will be on display, and there
will be a blessing with his relic. The celebration honoring
Blessed Grimwald will include a reception following the
Mass
Blessed Grimwald was beatified 18 years ago by Pope
John Paul II. He was an Italian Passionist monk who died
at 19. After his death, his widowed mother, Cecilia Ruscio
Santamaria, moved from Italy to Rochester, to pass her last
years with her daughter Mrs. Vincenzina Panella.
His mother Cecilia lived at 55 Stonewood Avenue in
Rochester, and was a parishioner of Holy Cross. She was
buried in 1933 from Holy Cross Church in Holy
Sepulchre Cemetery. Because of that connection, Holy
Cross has been designated to host the celebration of
Blessed Grimwald.
Please pray that God’s graces will be abundant through
Blessed Grimwald’s intercession. His mother’s wisdom
and the ideals of the Passionist Fathers developed in
young Grimwald a mature holiness that made him a good
example to both youth and adults. To all he was simple,
ordinary, and accessible; but he himself marched to a
heavenly drum.

this devotion would not become widely

The promotion of the practice of stewardship is important for the mission of the
Church and for the spiritual well-being of each individual Christian. Everyone
benefits from the sacrificial gift one makes of his time, talent, and treasure.
Pope Benedict XVI
What is Your Attitude?
The attitude of Christian Stewardship
recognizes that one’s own special talents were
given by God. These skills could have been
given to someone else also. But they were given to you to use for God’s purpose. It is important that we use them to help one
another, passing on to others the many
blessings that God has given us.
The same attitude of stewardship recognizes
time as a loan made by God to his children.
Manage time well.
Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on God’s
many blessings in our lives and to give
“thanks” to our loving God, who will never be
outdone in generosity.
Give of your time, talent and
treasure until you feel good about
your gift, and your heart knows that
you have done something for God.
How much of your time, other than
an hour on Sunday, do you give back
to God for the many blessings that
you have received?
Transform November into a
Month of Thanksgiving
Good stewards of their life and faith recognize
that Thanksgiving should be directed
primarily in God’s direction.
Because the “busyness” of Thanksgiving Day
can easily distract us from slowing down to a
pace more suitable to adequately expressing
our gratitude to God, perhaps this November
we might allow Thanksgiving to permeate our
lives for more than just a day. Expressing
gratitude is at the heart of good stewardship.
So, let’s dedicate a little time each day in
November to giving thanks for our blessings.
Spend a few minutes thanking God for all the
people in your life who have gone before you.
“They gave out of

“Thank you.” Express your gratitude for the

she had to live on.” If you do this, you will find your celebration
of Thanksgiving Day a more richer and fuller

experience than you could have imagined. In
fact, you might just discover that your overall
happiness with life improves.
Living a Stewardship Way of Life is about the expectations of our God, and our answer to his final question,
“What have you done with all that I have given to you?”

Holiday Food Baskets
Consider an Extra Turkey
Continuing THIS Weekend, November
8/9, the Social Ministry Committee is
having a food drive to collect items to be
used for the Thanksgiving and Christmas
food baskets. Between the two holidays,
we have about 60 families who are in
need. We are asking for the following
items so that they may have an enjoyable
holiday dinner.
• Boxed Stuffing
• Boxed Mashed Potatoes
• Turkey Gravy
• Canned Beans/Vegetables
• Canned Fruit
• Canned Sweet Potatoes
• Cranberry Sauce
• Coffee/Hot Chocolate/Tea
• Brownie/Cake Mixes/Frosting
• Jello/Pudding Mixes (Instant)
• Soups
• Peanut Butter and Jelly/Jam
• Cereal
Please leave your food donations at the
Church entrances.
We are graciously accepting donations of turkeys. Please consider
picking up an extra turkey when the
supermarkets are having those great
prices. A 1418 lb. turkey
would be
perfect. You
can drop
them off to
church the
weekend of Nov 22/23.
God Bless!
Outwear Collection
Start cleaning out
your closets. The Sr
Hi teens will be
collecting outerwear
again this year to take
to Matthew's Closet.
Collection boxes will be in the parish center foyer
beginning
THIS Sunday, Nov 9.
We cannot use out-dated products. This is a
County Health Order. So please check dates
on cans, jars, and boxes.
Holy Cross is so blessed to have such
generous parishioners. Thank you
very much...God’s blessings to you.
We are all called
to be “wise master builders”
In today’s reading from Saint Paul’s letter to
the Christian community at Corinth, he suggests that we are all called to be “wise master builders” in the building up of God’s
temple, the local Church. Each one of us
has been given gifts to offer this building
enterprise, and we are called to be good
stewards of this project, to build this church
together, in communion with one another,
according to God’s plan, not ours. Jesus
Christ is the solid foundation upon whom
we are to build. Saint Paul
further
suggests that God will judge us
according to the quality of our stewardship.
Can we see ourselves as “master builders” of God’s
church?

Introducing
the Traveling Chalice!
Beginning in Advent, our parish will start
a new program called the “Traveling
Chalice.” Every week, families can sign
up to take home a special chalice, just like
the one that the priest uses for Mass. The
family that takes the chalice home for that
week will be encouraged to use the
opportunity to
pray for vocations. You can display it in a prominent spot
in your house, keep it on the table at mealtimes, and use it
as a way to teach your children the special place that the
Mass and the Eucharist has in our faith. I would encourage
those who take the Chalice to journal about the experience
and share what it was like to pray for vocations to the
priesthood and religious life. More details to follow.

Change the World, One Gift at a Time
Today, we launch our 2015 Catholic Relief Services Online
Gift Catalog at http://gifts.crs.org/site/PageServer?
pagename=gift_catalog_home&s_src=mid.
A Gift of Hope is a way to embody Jesus’ love to a world of
suffering.
Choose a gift—one that will last all year—that gives
children a chance to go to school, families a chance to reap
a great harvest, widows an opportunity to earn an income,
and young people safety and emotional well-being.
Each gift you give from the Catholic Relief Services Gift
Catalog becomes a catalyst for change in the lives of our
poorest brothers and sisters overseas. Your gift saves
lives—and tells your loved one how much you care.
The gifts in this catalog represent nearly 1,500 CRS projects
that transform people and communities for the long term.
We’re inspired by the people we serve, the work that we do
and the people, like you, who make our work possible.
We think you’ll be inspired, too.
