Timing is Everything Watering Days Changed
Effective November 2, 2014
When you reset your clocks on November 2nd, don’t forget to reset your sprinkler timers to
comply with they City’s Winter Watering Rule. Sacramento water users can water one day per
week, on Saturday or Sunday only.
“Even a very wet winter may not make up all the water we need to bring us out of a drought.
Luckily, cooler weather bring with it a great opportunity to save water, “ said William Granger,
Water Conservtion Administrator for the City of Sacramento Department of Utilities. “Even in
early in the fall, customers should begin to shorten their watering time as the temperature
drop and the sun sets earlier. Every minute that your sprinklers are off is water saves!”
Other tips to help cutomers save water this fall include:
Turn off sprinklers when they rain returns to the area or if there is rain in the forecast.
Use a broom or rake to move leaves off of sidewalks, driveways, and streets
Consider installing a rain sensor to irrigation systems to help ensure that sprinkler stay off
when the rain returns.
For more information about ways to save water please visit www.SpareSacWater.org.

Exhibitions, Events, and Programs at the Crocker Art Museum
CONTINUING EXHIBITIONS
“Our America: The Latino Presence in American Art”
September 21 through January 11, 2015
Drawn from the collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the exhibition explores the idea that
we are “a nation of immigrants” by considering the varied contributions of Latino artists to American art and
culture from the mid-20th century to the present. Featuring nearly 100 works in all media by some of the
leading contemporary artists working in the United States, the exhibition will examine how their works express an evolving and particular American experience. Latino artists across the United States were galvanized
by the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s and 1970s. They created new images of their communities and
celebrated hybrid cultural traditions. Approaching their practice with humor, irony, and valor, Latino artists
critically probed American history and popular culture, revealing the possibilities and tensions of expansionism, migration, and settlement.
“The Provoke Era: Japanese Photography from the Collection of SFMOMA”
October 12 through February 1, 2015
The tumultuous period following World War II provided fertile ground for a generation of Japanese photographers who responded to societal upheaval by creating a new visual language dubbed "are, bure, boke" —
rough, blurred, and out of focus. Named for the magazine “Provoke,” which sought to break the rules of traditional photography, this exhibition traces how Japanese photographers responded to their country's shifting social and political atmosphere. Showcasing photographers like Masahisa Fukase, Eikoh Hosoe, Daido
Moriyama, and Shomei Tomatsu, the works presented all come from the collection of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, which holds one of the preeminent collections of Japanese photography in the United
States. Organized by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the presentation of this exhibition is made
possible by a grant from The James Irvine Foundation.

“Arte Mexicano: Legacy of the Masters”
October 12 through February 1, 2015
This exhibition showcases the ideals, individualism, and intertwining artistic lives of 20th-century Mexican artists.
Composed of 40 paintings by more than 35 artists, the exhibition highlights their varied responses to the postrevolutionary call for a distinctly Mexican visual art. The social realism of Diego Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozco,
and David Alfaro Siquerios, and the subjective and associative subjects of Rufino Tamayo, Maria Izquierdo, Remedios Varo, and Francisco Toledo are explored. Mexico's importance as a crucible of modernist ideas—one that
attracted artists from Europe and the United States—is traced alongside the inspiration drawn from the nation's
ancient civilizations. The mid-century abstraction of Gunther Gerzo and Carlos Merida, and of contemporary
painters such as Mario Palacios brings the story to the present, as does the expressionism of Alejandro Santiago
and Irma Palacios.

Did you know that the majority of sewer backups and overflows in the Sacramento area happen in residential
neighborhoods? And most of those costly backups and overflows are caused by fats, oils, and grease (FOG)
accumulating in sewer pipes?
It’s hard to believe the holidays are, once again, right around the corner. And we all know what that
means—many large, delicious meals. Did you know the majority of slow-draining and clogged sewer pipes
in residential areas are a result of improper disposal of fats, oils, and grease (FOG)? Learn how to Stop the
Clog at home this holiday season and prevent costly sewer backups or overflows by knowing the coming sources of
FOG.
Test your knowledge about FOG:
 Common sources of FOG include meat, fatty food scraps, lard, salad dressings, marinades, dairy products, butter
or margarine, and shortening.
 Grease doesn't dissolve in hot water or in a sink’s garbage disposal.
 Even if FOG makes it down the kitchen drain, it will still stick to pipes after it cools
Clog prevention is easy!
Instead of putting FOG down your kitchen ink, follow these three easy steps for proper disposal:



Can it! Once cooled, pour leftover oils and grease into a studry container like an empty coffee can or glas jar
Scrape it! Before washing, scrape out fats, oils, and grease residuals from pots, pans, and dishes
Trash it! Put fatty and greasy food scraps in the garbage, not down the drain.
For more tips and proper FOG disposal, visit
www.stoptheclog.com or “like” us on Facebook at
www.facebook.com/sacsewer.
And remember, if you have sewer problems, day or night, call us at (916) 875-6730. We’ll help you
figure out the next step. We’re available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - even on holidays!
