THE STUDY PROGRESS REFORM
What does it mean/what is new?
•
All students (the only lack of activity = thesis) will be automatically registered for their
master thesis at the 1st of September (Unless there are special circumstances)
•
Not possible to cancel the registration
•
After registration: 4 months to write your thesis
•
After submitting your thesis: 1 month for evaluation and oral defence
•
Three attempts at passing the thesis: Modified thesis synopsis and a new deadline of
three months (whether you fail or choose to postpone submission date)

Registration dates before September:
•1st
of June – Deadline for handing in the thesis  1st of November

of August – Deadline for handing in the thesis  1st of January

•Prepare
a proposal for a thesis synopsis (1/2 page)
- tentative title
- tentative problem statement
- tentative research approach (methods/theory)
- tentative description of data basis, if relevant

/PRE-REGISTRATION

Hand in the registration form to the department secretaries
• Deadline is 1 ½ month before if you plan to register during the summer (Before
September)
• Deadline is 1 month before if you start your thesis from September

• You are free to make a request for a specific supervisor

• It must be signed by you and your supervisor

Hand in the thesis registration form + thesis synopsis + plan for the process to the
department secretaries before the registration deadline.

SCOPE OF THE THESIS:

The thesis may be prepared individually or in groups of max. 3 students
•
Scope (for students starting before 1st of Sep):
- 1 student: 50-80 standard pages (2.200 characters, excluding blanks)
- 2 students: 75-120 standard pages
- 3 students: 100-150 standard pages

Number of pages is still unclear (only the maximum number of pages is up for
discussion)

Excl. table of contents, literature list, abstract and appendices, but incl. notes.
•
Length of the abstract: Max. 2 standard pages.
•
Individual oral exam: 45 min.

Print the receipt for your upload/registration (= proof that you have uploaded/registered)

• A copy of the mail receipt from the library
• 2 printed copies of your thesis
• 3 completed copies of the form 'Submission of master's thesis‘ (Find it at the
Study Portal)
