Songs of Gathering and Preparation
The people of God always sang as they ascended the hill in Jerusalem up to the temple to worship (see Psalms 120-134). We, as
well, prepare our hearts, minds, and bodies for worship by singing about the God we serve.
Come Holy Spirit, Come
Words and Music by Adam W. Davidson, some text adapted from Veni Creator Spiritus, 9th century
©2014 Grubby Paws Music, LLC used by permission
Come Spirit, come Creator blest, in our souls take up your rest
Come with grace and truth and heav’nly aid, fill our hearts up with your praise
O Comforter, to you we cry, O heavenly gift of God Most High
O fount of life and fire of love, our anointing from above
Sweet anointing from above
Come Holy Spirit, come, burn in our hearts the fire from above
Sent by the Father and the Son, fill us with power and with your love
Our presence of the Father true and our promise of the Son
Our souls washed clean, our hearts renewed and our hope of heaven won
Our Counselor, speak through the Word, give us wisdom, grant us grace
Let your glory on our lips be heard as we sing and shout your praise
In every nation, every race
Come Spirit, come Creator blest, in our souls take up your rest
Come with grace and truth and heav’nly aid, fill our hearts up with your praise
Let us sing and shout your praise
Call to Worship
We read God’s Word, the Bible, together. It reveals to us who God is and what He expects of us.
Isaiah 61:1-3 (ESV)
Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor;
he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the
prison to those who are bound; 2 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor, and the day of vengeance of our
God; to comfort all who mourn; 3 to grant to those who mourn in Zion— to give them a beautiful headdress
instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that
they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.
1 The
Prayer of Adoration — Dean Nederveld
We pray together praising God for who He really is (Adoration) and admitting our inability to live up to what He expects of us
(Confession).
Confession of Sin
From Daniel 9:4-5; Galatians 5:19-21; Psalm 51:1-2, 4 (NLT)
Daniel 9:9; Romans 3:23, 1 John 1:9 (ESV)
Congregation: “O Lord, you are a great and awesome God! You always fulfill your covenant and keep your
promises of unfailing love to those who love you and obey your commands. But we have sinned and done
wrong. We have rebelled against you and scorned your commands and regulations.
When we follow the desires of our sinful natures, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity,
lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition,
dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these.
Have mercy on us, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the
stain of our sins. Wash us clean from our guilt. Purify us from our sins. Against you, and you alone, have
we sinned and done what is evil in your sight.
To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness, for we have rebelled against him, for all have sinned and
fall short of the glory of God.
Leader: For those in Jesus Christ, the Scripture says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive
us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Hear then, your Assurance of Pardon…
Assurance of Pardon
We again read God’s Word together and are reminded that mercy and grace are freely given to all who have faith in Jesus
Christ.
Isaiah 62:1-5 (ESV)
For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not be quiet, until her righteousness
goes forth as brightness, and her salvation as a burning torch. 2 The nations shall see your righteousness, and
all the kings your glory, and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will give. 3 You
shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. 4 You
shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate, but you shall be called
My Delight Is in Her, and your land Married; for the Lord delights in you, and your land shall be married.
5 For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your sons marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices
over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.

He will rejoice over you;
He will rejoice over you.
If you could only hear His voice
You would hear the Lord rejoice,
Rejoicing over you with singing.
Praise and Celebration
Our response to God’s free grace is celebratory worship. We express our praise to God for who he is and what he has done for us.
Mighty to Save
By Ben Fielding and Reuben Morgan ©2006 Hillsong Publishing (Admin. By Integrity’s Hosanna Music), used by permission, CCLI# 1693489
Everyone needs compassion a love that’s never failing
Let mercy fall on me
Everyone needs forgiveness, the kindness of a Savior
The hope of nations
Savior, He can move the mountains,
My God is mighty to save, He is mighty to save
Forever, author of salvation
He rose and conquered the grave, Jesus conquered the grave
So take me as you find me, with all my fears and failures
Fill my life again
I give my life to follow, and everything I believe in
Now I surrender, yes I surrender
Shine your light and let the whole world see
We’re singing for the glory of the risen king, Jesus
Shine your light and let the whole world see
We’re singing for the glory of the risen king
I Will Sing of My Redeemer

Prayer of Thanksgiving and Intercession — Dean Nederveld
We again express in prayer our gratitude to God for what he has done and ask him to continue to act for our good and the good
of others in our community & world.

Proclamation of God’s Word — Tim Rice, Lead Pastor & Director of Church Planting
A small portion of God’s Word is explained to us and applied to our lives and circumstances.
Confession of Faith
As an expression of our faith in Jesus Christ in solidarity with his people, we declare the substance of what we believe.
The Nicene Creed
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible
and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all
worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one
substance with the Father, by whom all things were made. Who, for us men and for our
salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and
was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried;
and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits
on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the
dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and
the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by
the prophets. And I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one
baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the
world to come. Amen.
Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper
The ritual meal of Communion is a sign and seal of the grace we have in Jesus. That is, it symbolizes the work Christ did for
our salvation (sign) and communicates the grace and mercy we have been given (seal) as a result of His death and resurrection.

Song of Response
We respond to the good news of God’s mercy and grace by singing again of his goodness and greatness.
Greater Than Our Hearts
Words by Charles Wesley and Matthew Smith, music by Matthew Smith,
©2009 Detuned Radio Music, used by permission, CCLI# 1693489
You who are greater than our hearts,
Come make your faithful mercies known.
The mind of Christ to us impart,
Your constant mind in us be shown.
O let us by your cross abide,
You, only you, resolved to know;
The Lamb for sinners crucified,
A world to save from endless woe.
Take us into your people’s rest,
And we from our own works shall cease;
With your meek Spirit arm our breast,
And keep our minds in perfect peace.
Jesus, for this we calmly wait,
O let our eyes behold you near;
Hurry to make our heav’n complete,
Appear, our glorious God, appear.
Benediction
Because the hand of God’s wrath was raised against Jesus we now receive the hand of God’s blessing as we are sent out to live
our lives to the glory of God.
May the LORD bless you and keep you;
the LORD make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the LORD turn His face toward you and give you His peace,
both now and forevermore. Amen.
Seasons of the Cross
Green: The colors of the various seasons of the Christian year express the mood or feeling of that season. Green
expresses the ongoing work of God and our participation in him and in his work. Though God’s work of creating is
finished, his work to sustain and grow his Kingdom is not. Particularly, in this season after Pentecost, we strive to
live in and through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit - praying and living so as to display and declare the
glory of Jesus in all we do.
Scripture Passage and Sermon Outline
Proclamation of God’s Word
Text: Zephaniah 3:11-20 (ESV)
Title: A Gracious Reversal of Fortune
Teacher: Tim Rice
11 “On
that day you shall not be put to shame because of the deeds by which you have rebelled against me;
for then I will remove from your midst your proudly exultant ones, and you shall no longer be haughty in my
holy mountain. 12 But I will leave in your midst a people humble and lowly. They shall seek refuge in the
name of the Lord, 13 those who are left in Israel; they shall do no injustice and speak no lies, nor shall there
be found in their mouth a deceitful tongue. For they shall graze and lie down, and none shall make them
afraid.”
Sing aloud, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter of
Jerusalem! 15 The Lord has taken away the judgments against you; he has cleared away your enemies. The
King of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst; you shall never again fear evil. 16 On that day it shall be said to
Jerusalem: “Fear not, O Zion; let not your hands grow weak. 17 The Lord your God is in your midst, a
mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult
over you with loud singing. 18 I will gather those of you who mourn for the festival, so that you will no longer
suffer reproach. 19 Behold, at that time I will deal with all your oppressors. And I will save the lame and
gather the outcast, and I will change their shame into praise and renown in all the earth. 20 At that time I
will bring you in, at the time when I gather you together; for I will make you renowned and praised among
all the peoples of the earth, when I restore your fortunes before your eyes,” says the Lord.

Intro: Zephaniah foretold judgment and knew joy and fear…
THE LORD GIVES & TAKES AWAY
Why can anyone have hope in the face of certain judgment?
IN PRIDE WE TRY TO TAKE
By sin and pride, how do we refuse what God provides and doubt what He has done?
WE CANNOT BE TAKEN
How has Jesus outwitted Satan?
YOU CAN PRAY WITH US…
1. Worship the LORD for His grace and provision. Praise Him, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for how He has taken
away all that threatens us and given us freely all that we will ever need.
2. How have you lived refusing what God provides and doubting what He has done? Confess your pride to Jesus,
asking Him to forgive you for trying to take what only He can give.
3. Give thanks to Jesus for how He chose to be treated like the thieves that we are so that we could be loved like the
Treasure that He is. Thank Him for claiming you as His Bride to save you and bring you true peace.
4. Give thanks to Jesus for how He chose to be treated like the thieves that we are so that we could be loved like the
Treasure that He is. Thank Him for claiming you as His Bride to save you and bring you true peace.
5. Read Isaiah 62:3-5. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you rest in Jesus’ pure love. Pray for such peace and fullness by His
work in your life that you would know what it means that He quiets you with His love.
