Our Speaker for November
TFRW President - Linda Buckles
The November meeting promises to be a busy and fun time! Starting at
10:15 that morning, we are delighted to honor Germantown’s retiring
mayor, Sharon Goldsworthy, for her many years of service to her
community. Sharon is a longtime member of Shelby County Republican
Women’s Club and is the longest serving mayor in the metropolitan area.
The mayors of Shelby County, Arlington, Bartlett, Collierville, Lakeland
and Millington have been invited to make brief remarks. Several of them
have worked together over the years with Mayor Goldsworthy on issues of
mutual interest, especially schools and education. In addition, Republican
elected officials have been invited to attend—and, of course, all SCRWC
members and associate members are invited, indeed encouraged, to attend. There will be a short
program, and refreshments of cake and assorted beverages will follow. All attendees will be guests of
the club; there will be no charge for the reception.
As a special treat, the president of the Tennessee Federation of Republican Women, Linda Buckles,
will be present to also pay tribute to Mayor Goldsworthy. She will be traveling from her home in
Kingsport TN to join us and we are grateful that she will make that long trip to be with us.
President Linda will be the guest speaker of the regular meeting of the club, which will begin at
11:00 a.m. She will update us about what is happening with the Tennessee federation and will install
the SCRWC officers for the year 2015, who were elected at the October meeting.
Linda serves as TN GOP State Executive Committeewoman on the Bylaws and Administrative
Committees and the Sullivan County Republican Party Executive Board. She served three terms
as president of Greater Kingsport Republican Women’s Club, two terms as TFRW Area 1 vice
president, chairman of the TFRW Convention, logistics chairman for many major Republican events,
chairman of Sullivan County Republican Headquarters, many years as NFRW Regent, on the NFRW
Membership Committee, and participated in the last three RNC Conventions.
She is also very active in local church, school, medical, and programs for youth
and children.
Mayor Sharon Goldsworthy
President’s Corner
We were truly blessed to have State Senator Brian Kelsey at our last meeting. He
explained the four amendments on the ballot... very helpful to our members. Thanks
Brian for helping us make educated decisions.
Our other guest speakers were Mike Palazzolo and George Brogdon, both candidates
for Germantown Mayor. They were great speakers and we were happy to have an
opportunity to get to know them better.
In November we are having a reception for Mayor Sharon Goldsworthy who has been
Germantown’s Mayor for twenty years. We are fortunate to have had her outstanding leadership all
this time.
TFRW President Linda Buckles will be our special guest and has agreed to swear in our 2015 slate of
officers for our club.
Everyone... Please get out and vote! This is a very important election! Remind family, friends, in-laws and outlaws to vote!
See you all at the November meeting!
Joyce
