You can deploy the Virtual Storage Center (VSC) virtual appliance into a VMware
ESXi version 5.5 hypervisor environment by using the information in this
document.
About this task
The following instructions are an example of how to deploy the VSC virtual
appliance into a VMware ESXi/vSphere version 5.5 hypervisor environment.
Procedure
1. Download the following files to a local directory in your VMware
ESXi/vSphere version 5.5 hypervisor environment:
v VSC-version-POC-VirtualAppliance.mf
v VSC-version-POC-VirtualAppliance.ovf
v VSC-version-POC-VirtualAppliance-disk1.vmdk
Where version is the latest released version of the VSC software. For example,
523.
2. In the navigation pane of the vSphere version 5.5 web Client, go to vCenter ->
Inventory Trees -> Hosts and Clusters
3. Right-click on the host where you intend to deploy the VSC virtual appliance
and select Deploy OVF Template...
4. On the Select Source page, complete the following steps:
a. Select Local File
b. Click Browse...

c. Go to the local directory where you downloaded the VSC virtual appliance
files and select VSC-version-POC-VirtualAppliance.ovf
d. Click Open
e. Click Next
5. On the Review details page, review the information about the VSC virtual
appliance and click Next

6. On the Select name and folder page, complete the following steps:
a. Enter a valid name for the virtual machine that gets created when you
deploy the VSC virtual appliance
b. Select the folder or data center where you intend to deploy the VSC
virtual appliance and click Next
7. On the Select storage page, complete the following steps:
a. Select the destination datastore to deploy the VSC virtual appliance
b. Select the appropriate virtual disk format
c. Select the appropriate VM Storage Policy and click Next

8. On the Setup networks page, select the Destination network and click Next
9. Review the settings on the Ready to complete page. Do not select the Power
on after deployment option. Click Finish

Depending on your VMware ESXi/vSphere version 5.5 hypervisor
environment, the deployment of the VSC virtual appliance takes
approximately 12 minutes.
10. In the navigation pane of the vSphere version 5.5 Web Client, right-click on
the virtual machine that is created by deploying the VSC virtual appliance
and select Power On
11. Right-click on the powered-on virtual machine and select Open Console

12. In the virtual machine console, the configuration starts automatically. Add the
following information when prompted by the configuration script:
a. The IPv4 address for the virtual machine
b. The gateway IPv4 address for the virtual machine
c. The primary domain name service server IPv4 address for the virtual
machine
d. The secondary domain name service server IPv4 address for the virtual
machine
e. The host name for the virtual machine
f. The domain name for the virtual machine
g. The time zone for the virtual machine
Results
The configuration script completes the following actions:
v Configures the operating system by using the provided information
v Restarts the virtual machine and then automatically logs in
v Installs and configures DB2
v Installs and configures VSC
v Starts the virtual machine's graphical user environment, where you log in with
user name = root and password = vsc4Demo
If you do not enter correct networking information at the prompts, then the virtual
machine or the VSC system might not function properly. In this situation, shut
down the virtual machine, delete the virtual machine from your hypervisor
environment, and start again by redeploying the virtual appliance into your
hypervisor environment.
Log in to the virtual machine's graphical user environment and open the
VSC_version_Appliance_README on the desktop.
