We have had some nice cool mornings and what I consider some perfect afternoons with highs in the lower 70's and high 60's. I was beginning to think that summer was coming back with some of the warm temps we were getting the last week of October. But I think that was summers last fight of the year. With cooler temperatures at night the Bermuda grass has started to slow down growing for the season. We have been applying fall fertilization apps to the greens and tees for a month or so now and we will continue with this as long as the plant will take up the nutrition. This helps make the plant stronger going into dormancy. The ryegrass has really started to take off well on the par 3 tees and driving range tee. The weather has been great for it growing in. I plan to continue filling divots in these areas with sand and seed as long as the temperatures are favorable for germination. This month we will be spending a lot of time keeping the course blown off as leaves will really continue to fall. There will be areas around the course where piles of leaves will be blown up. We will get all of these piles up and hauled off asap. This makes finding a golf ball in these areas much easier which in turn keeps play at a good pace. We will also continue mowing the wooded areas around the course and start cleaning out drainage ditches where needed. This not only makes the course look neater but it also makes finding golf balls in these area easier as well. In again would like to thank the maintenance staff for all their continued hard work. I also remind everyone to remember and fill all divots and repair all ball marks. I hope to see you all this month out enjoying your great club here at MCC!!!
