Fall is in the air!!! We have had some nice cool mornings and what I consider some perfect afternoons
with highs in the lower 70's and high 60's. I was beginning to think that summer was coming back with some
of the warm temps we were getting the last week of October. But I think that was summers last fight of the
year.
With cooler temperatures at night the Bermuda grass has started to slow down growing for the season. We
have been applying fall fertilization apps to the greens and tees for a month or so now and we will continue
with this as long as the plant will take up the nutrition. This helps make the plant stronger going into
dormancy. The ryegrass has really started to take off well on the par 3 tees and driving range tee. The
weather has been great for it growing in. I plan to continue filling divots in these areas with sand and seed as
long as the temperatures are favorable for germination.
This month we will be spending a lot of time keeping the course blown off as leaves will really continue to
fall. There will be areas around the course where piles of leaves will be blown up. We will get all of these piles
up and hauled off asap. This makes finding a golf ball in these areas much easier which in turn keeps play at
a good pace. We will also continue mowing the wooded areas around the course and start cleaning out
drainage ditches where needed. This not only makes the course look neater but it also makes finding golf
balls in these area easier as well.
In again would like to thank the maintenance staff for all their continued hard work. I also remind everyone to
remember and fill all divots and repair all ball marks. I hope to see you all this month out enjoying your great
club here at MCC!!!

Operations Update
By Lee Duncan
With the combination of great weather and a finely conditioned golf course, October
was a fantastic month for Mid Carolina Club! I am keeping my fingers crossed that this nice
weather continues, as November is typically a great month for golf around these parts as
well!
On the tournament front, our MCC Ladies Golf Association is hosting the WSCGA One
-Day event on Tuesday, November11th. The ladies of the LGA allows roll out the red carpet
for their guests and they do a great job of showcasing our Club!
Next on the list is a new MCC event, Night Golf! The MCC Night Golf tournament is
scheduled for Friday, November 14th, and should be tons of fun (see details listed in this
Newsletter). And in case you didn’t know, Clemson and USC play a little football game this
month which is always preceded by the annual grudge matches of the LGA, and MGA.
These matches will take place on Thursday, November 20th and Friday, November 21st, and
bragging rights are always up for grabs!
Food & Beverage activities for November include Nick’s famous All-You-Can-Eat Crab
Legs (Wednesday, Nov. 5th), the Prime Rib Buffet (Friday, Nov. 7th), the Traditional
Thanksgiving Feast (Thanksgiving Day – Thursday, Nov. 27th), and the 4th Annual Big Friday
Oyster Roast (Friday, Nov. 28th). Come often, and come hungry! And don’t forget Bingo
night (Wednesday, Nov. 19th)!
Thanks to all of you that took the time to respond to the recent Club survey. The
Board will review all of the responses and use this information for future planning purposes.
Happy Thanksgiving to all, and thanks for your continued enjoyment and support of
Club!

ONLY AROUND THE NEW SHORT GAME AREA. THE
TWO PUTTING GREENS ADJACENT TO THE
CLUBHOUSE WILL BE USED FOR PUTTING ONLY.
2. SHAG BAGS WITH MCC PRACTICE BALLS WILL
BE AVAILABLE FOR USE AT ALL TIMES. ALL
PLAYERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO CLEAN UP AFTER
THEMSELVES AT THE END OF THEIR PRACTICE
SESSION. THIS INCLUDES RAKING THE BUNKERS AND
REPAIRING ANY BALL MARKS ON THE GREEN.
3. MEMBERS WISHING TO PRACTICE WITH THEIR
OWN GOLF BALLS MAY DO SO AT ANY TIME.
4. PUTTING ON THE NEW SHORT GAME AREA GREEN
IS PERMITTED, BUT CHIPPING AND PITCHING
PRACTICE WILL HAVE THE “RIGHT OF WAY”.
PRACTICE AROUND THE SHORT GAME
AREA IS RESTRICTED TO CONFINES OF
THE NEW AREA (WITHIN ANY PAVEMENT
OR CART PATHS). SHOTS MUST NOT BE
HIT FROM OUTSIDE OF THIS AREA
(EXAMPLE: FROM #10 TEE OR FROM
ADJACENT TO #18 GREEN, ETC.).
Bunker Rakes
New rakes have been purchased for
the bunkers. The handles are longer and
much more splinter resistant than our old
rakes. In an effort to keep these new rakes in
the best condition possible, please leave the
rakes in the bunkers after raking. It is also
suggested that the rakes be placed at an angle
that is parallel to the play of the hole in order
to minimize the opportunity of a rake
interfering with play.
