“United in Faith”
From the Pastor’s Desk
Think of it as a
magnificent tapestry! There
is our heavenly dwelling
with God; there is the Holy
Temple in Jerusalem where
God resided with His chosen
people; there is the great
church of St. John Lateran in
Rome which we
commemorate today; there is
our parish church; there is the People of God we call the
Church; and there is you – the temple of the Holy Spirit.
It’s a wonderful panorama of visions and also real places
and peoples.
Do we need places of worship? There are plenty of
people in this world who never enter the doors of a
Church or temple or shrine. There are others who practice
their religion occasionally as on Christmas or Easter. It
seems that a “feeling” of spirituality suffices for them, if
they care at all. Some protest that they experience more
“spirituality” outside institutional churches and buildings
and congregations than they do within them.
And then there are most of the readers of this
bulletin – the men and women who take the notion of
worship of God seriously. As we do our everyday
business and engage in our various responsibilities, the
awesome presence of Jesus Christ, in the Eucharist, is
with us. To people of faith, the importance of a worship
space is not taken for granted. It is there that we go for
inspiration, for sustenance, for strength, for hope. There,
we are assured of Emanuel, God is with us.
When we celebrate this feast of the dedication of the
November 9, 2014
great church of St. John Lateran in Rome, in which I had
a chance to visit couple years ago, I think of this
magnificent, Roman basilica as a person; I think of our
church as a person, it’s the Lord in our midst, around
whom we all come together, we care for and we support
it.
In this weekend bulletin, you will find a financial
report of our parish for the fiscal year from July 2013 June 2014. You can learn from it how we managed and
spent your money. Take your time to examine it. The
report does not cover the expenses of the pews and floor
since they were done after June 2014. Reflecting upon it,
I just want to thank you for your trust and support in my
first year being your pastor. I am humbled by your
generosity that has helped us to come thus far. What Fr.
Larry started and worked hard on, we brought to its
completion. I hope you like what you accomplished
together over the last few years. Let’s relax financially a
bit before we get into something new... I think the
celebration of our anniversary this weekend is very
fitting. Let us enjoy the fruit of our work and God’s
blessings in our lives. If you have any questions
regarding of the financial report, feel free to call me or
contact any Finance Committee member.
The final prayer of the Mass today says: “By
partaking of this sacrament, may we be made the temple
of your grace.” To that we say: “Amen” and we thank
God for our church that we are so proud of and for the
people that make it up. Thank you for your continuous
support of SS. Cyril & Methodius Church.
Happy Anniversary!

Dear Fellow Parishioners,
The Parish Finance Committee meets on a monthly basis to review overall parish income and expenditures, to
budget and plan for short and long-term needs, and advise/assist Fr. Valdi relative to financial decisions
concerning the parish. In today’s bulletin, you will find our Annual Parish Financial Report for the fiscal year
ending June 30, 2014.
The Finance Committee supervised the preparation of this report pursuant to Archdiocesan guidelines. This
year, our parish was audited and certified as meeting all Archdiocesan financial and internal guidelines by the
accounting firm Crowe Horwath.
Please note that during the 2013-2014 fiscal year we began work on the final phase of our capital projects
which include:

New church pews

New flooring

New baptismal font, ambo and altar

Restored high and side altars
Other noteworthy items to consider:

Our parish remains debt free considering all the new projects undertaken and/or completed. We are
thankful for your ongoing financial support to help our church and school be a place we can all be proud
of.

Our parish organizations continue to generously support our parish and school.

We annually subsidize our parish school to help defray costs to parents and provide quality education for
our students.

Parish outreach programs:
 Helping Hands program
 Sharing parish support for our sister parish, St. Adalbert’s
 Tree of Love campaign to provide Christmas gifts to others
 Programs for parishioners to support and strengthen our faith
Should you ever have any question about parish finances, please feel free to approach any member of the
committee.
The Finance Committee is able to effectively plan for the future of our parish because of your continuing
generosity and support.
Thankfully, we remain your Parish Finance Committee:

Dear Parents,
During the month of November our school is
remembering deceased members of our families. Names
are being put on candles which will be displayed in the
lobby. We will also remember them each day during our
morning prayers. This idea was suggested and planned by
our school’s Faith Club.
This past Monday we took a few moments to
recognize the students in our school who have truly
demonstrated kindness to others since school began in
August. These students went “above and beyond” to help
someone in need.
Congratulations and keep up the good work!

Tri-Parish Anointing of the Sick Bilingual Mass
On Saturday, November 15th,
SS. Cyril & Methodius Parish will
celebrate the Anointing of the Sick
at the 11 AM Mass. This will be a
bilingual (English-Polish) Mass.
We extend an invitation to those
in our Tri-Parish Family who feel that the Celebration of
Anointing will provide help for them in sickness and
aging of their bodies.
In the past, the anointing was done near the time of
death. Theology today understands anointing as the
Sacrament of the Sick rather that at the time of
approaching death. The Anointing of the Sick is the
prayer of Christ and His Church for the physical and
spiritual health of the sick person.
Who may be anointed?
™
™
™
™
™
A sick person may be anointed before he/she
undergoes surgery, whether or not the surgery is
serious.
Persons with chronic illness.
Older persons, even if they are not suffering from
dangerous illness.
Mentally disabled persons and chemically dependent
persons.
A sick child may be anointed in order to be
comforted and uplifted by the Sacrament.
After the Mass, there will be a luncheon for all those
who attend in our school gym. In order for us to prepare
for this luncheon, we ask that you RSVP by calling Trish
at 630-257-9314 or emailing her at [email protected]
no later than Wednesday, November 5th. You can also
fill out the form below and return it in the collection
basket.

On November 22th two
Christmas trees will once again
be up in the back of church.
They will be covered with paper
ornament tags which are items from the wish lists of
children, seniors and families in need. These trees
represent a true ministry of love. Caring parishioners
remove the ornamental tags, and return them attached to
wrapped gifts they have generously purchased. As the
ornaments are removed the trees become more beautiful;
their bare branches giving eloquent expression to God’s
generosity manifest through our parish family.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but
might have eternal life.” John 3:16
Manna is sold at the rectory office on Wednesdays from

Have You Had Your Home
Blessed?
The blessing of households / houses
is part of the heritage of Catholic
Tradition. The primary focus of such
blessings is the people who live in the
dwelling place and the use that they make of the place
and its several parts. Those who participate in these
blessings acknowledge that the place in which the family
dwells ultimately is a gift from God and ask for God to be
always present in their lives. People pray that their
household may be an instrument of God’s blessing in
society and all of creation and affirm that the people who
dwell in these homes are a holy people set apart for
God’s work. Household blessings remind us that we need
to be compassionate toward those persons who have no
housing and always be welcoming to the stranger.
If you have just moved into your house, have never
had your house blessed or have recently completed some
major construction work, please feel free to call the
rectory and set an appointment for Fr. Valdi or Deacon
Mike to pay a visit.

Drodzy Parafianie,
Pomyślcie o tym, jako o
wspaniałych arrasach! Tam
jest nasze niebiańskie
mieszkanie z Bogiem; tam jest
Świątynia w Jerozolimie, gdzie
Bóg przebywał ze swym
wybranym ludem; jest tam
wspaniały Kościół Św. Jana
Narodzenie i Wielkanoc.
i zgromadzeniami, niż przebywając w nich.
wiary. Kiedy w naszej codzienności wykonujemy różne
obowiązki, niesamowita obecność Jezusa Chrystusa w
Eucharystii jest z nami. Dla ludzi wierzących, miejsca czci
nie powinny być ignorowane. Idziemy tam po inspirację,
duchowy pokarm, siłę i nadzieję. Tam mamy pewność, że
Emanuel, Bóg jest z nami.
Kiedy obchodzimy święto poświęcenia tego wspaniałego
Kościoła Św. Jana Laterańskiego w Rzymie, który miałem
November 9, 2014
lipca 2013 do czerwca 2014.
bycia Waszym Proboszczem. Kłaniam się przed Waszą
hojnością, bez której obecny wygląd parafi nie byłby
możliwy. To co Ks. Larry rozpoczął i na co ciężko pracował,
my mogliśmy doprowadzić do końca. Mam nadzieję, że
jesteście dumni z Waszych osiągnięć przez ostatnie parę lat.
Teraz zrelaksujmy się finansowo zanim rozpoczniemy coś
nowego... Myślę, że nasze Uroczystości Jubileuszowe
przypadły na odpowiedni weekend. Cieszmy się owocami
naszej ciężkiej pracy i Bożym błogosławieństwem. Jeżeli
macie jakiekolwiek pytania na temat sprawozdania
finansowego, proszę do mnie przedzwonić, lub do członków
Komitetu Finansowego.
Końcowa modlitwa dzisiejszej Mszy Świętej mówi: "Przez
uczestnictwo w tym sakramencie, niechaj staniemy się
świątynią Twej łaski." Odpowiedzmy: Amen i podziękujmy
Bogu za nasz Kościół, z którego jesteśmy dumni i za ludzi,
którzy go tworzą. Dziękuję za ciągłe wsparcie i hojność dla
Parafii Św. Cyryla i Metodego.
Wszystkiego najlepszego z okazji Rocznicy!
