From Our Rector- The Rev. Thomas Eklo
Welcome to St. Nicholas Episcopal Church. We are delighted to have
you here for our second annual auction. Countless hours of planning
and the devotion of many have made this evening happen. The items
that are up for auction represent the wonderful talents and the efforts of
many within this parish church family and generosity of the wider
community. The wide diversity of both silent and live auction items,
food, beverage and music make for a fun and engaging evening for all
who are here. It is a time for all of us to enjoy the company of old and
abiding friendships as well as the opportunity to mix and make
acquaintances and connections with new friends.
The proceeds from our auction this evening go to support the
mission and ministry of St. Nicholas Church. We are a theologically
progressive Community, steeped in the strong traditions of the Christian
faith while acknowledging that God is always opening new windows of
understanding – new ways of perceiving the presence of God in our
world and in our journey through this life. Because that is who we are,
we welcome all people wherever they may be in their journey in life. We
are a caring community living out our responsibility and ministry to one
another. But we are also aware of our place in the wider community
outside of these doors and our need to be the presence of Christ there as
well, respecting the dignity of every human being.
Again, welcome! Thank you for being here. Bid often! Have Fun!

How the Silent/Live Auction Works
The registration desk is located at the front door where participants will
receive a bidding number to use for both the Live and Silent Auctions.
Silent Auction
Silent auction items will be displayed downstairs. Each item has a bidding
sheet with a description of the article and bidding information. The
bidders write their bidding number and the amount they wish to bid on the
bidding sheet. This auction will use two types of bids: Fixed and
Competitive.
Fixed bid items are sold for a set price. You must indicate the number
of bids that you are making. For example, if the item is a dinner for 8
people, are you making a bid for 8 people, or 6 or 4 or 1, etc?
In competitive bid items, you must bid higher than the previous bid.
4
The Silent Auction bidding will close at 7:45 PM. At 8:30 the doors will
reopen. Those not staying for the Live Auction can reenter the Silent
Auction room to check for winning bids and pay for those items.
Live Auction
The Live Auction is conducted by our Auctioneer, who will sell to the
highest bidder. The articles for Live Auction will be on display upstairs,
until the Live Auction starts at 8:15 PM. The highest bidder can pick up the
article shortly after winning the bid, with payment by check, cash or credit
card. Silent Auction bidding sheets will be at the upstairs Check Out
(Registration Table).
Auction Rules
Rules for St. Nicholas Episcopal Church Silent and Live Auction held on
November 1, 2014, from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
1. Each auction participant will receive an auction bidding number during registration, which
will be used for bidding at both the Silent and Live Auction
2. All items in the Silent Auction have bid sheets on the display table near the items with a
title that includes the item name and number clearly printed at the top of each bid sheet.
3. To make a bid, write your bidding number on the bidding sheet and the amount that you
want to bid.
4. Each subsequent bid must be at least $1.00 more than the previous bid and satisfy the
minimum bid to be considered. Any increase not meeting that amount will not be
considered.
5. You may bid on any items in the Silent Auction section until the section is closed and the
auction has ended.
6. The doors of the Silent Auction will be closed at 7:45 PM and the bidding sheets marked
closed. The biddings sheets will be collected leaving the yellow sheet with the auction item.
At 8:15 PM the doors will reopen permitting the bidders to check on the items that they
have been bidding on. Those not staying for the Live Auction can claim and pay for their
item(s) at this time.
7. The live auction items will be displayed upstairs until 7:45 PM at which time they will be
moved to the sanctuary.
8. As each item is sold during the Live Auction, it and both copies of the bidding sheets will be
taken to the upstairs checkout table where it will be claimed and paid for by the winning
bidder.
9. All sales are final. There are no exchanges or refunds unless otherwise noted.
10. All items are “as is.” St. Nicholas Episcopal Church has attempted to describe the items
correctly based on the information provided by the donors. Bidders are expected to read
the fine print in this booklet and any information on the bidding sheets for any restrictions,
exclusions, etc.
11. The value listed is an estimate of fair market value. Items have not been appraised unless
noted. The amount you pay above this fair market value is normally tax deductible as a
charitable contribution. Please consult your tax advisor to clarify amount of deduction.
12. Payment for items purchased must be made in full on the night of the auction. We accept
cash, checks or credit cards. Please make checks payable to St. Nicholas Episcopal Church.
5
13. Any items left unclaimed without prior arrangements will become the property of St.
Nicholas church unless reclaimed by the donor.
14. Each bidder assumes responsibility for understanding the auction process. It is expected
that buyers and sellers of goods and services are acting in good faith and that they will
work together to arrange for delivery. Auction participants agree to hold St. Nicholas
Episcopal Church harmless from any liability.
15. Hopefully there will be no disputes. If there is an issue this evening, please contact the
Auction Staff and we will work with you to resolve it. In the event of a dispute, the Auction
Chair will act as final authority.
