MIDTERM REPORT CARDS
Your son/daughter will be brining home their midterm report
card on Thursday November 13th. The purpose of the report
card is to provide information about your child’s achievement of
the subject curriculum expectations and learning skills to date.
We ask that parents have a discussion with their child about
his/her achievement, learning skills and possible next steps for
improvement. These conversations are critical in helping
students learn decision-making skills, and draw the connections
between actions and results. For example, discuss with your
son/daughter how he/she uses the resources available to him/
her at SWMSS.
These resources include: extra help, guidance counselors, special education, student success, coaches and conversations
with classroom teachers about goal setting and scheduling. If
you have any questions please feel free to contact the school.
Report Card Response Forms should be reviewed, signed
and returned to your child’s homeroom teacher by November
24th.

November 20, 2014 from 6:30—9:30pm in the Library
safeTALK teaches participants how to identify someone who may
be thinking of suicide and how to link persons with suicide
thoughts to local suicide intervention resources. Participants
learn four basic steps that begin the process of getting help and
link the person with thoughts of suicide to a trained helper who
knows how to complete the helping process.

Grade 11 Career Day
We will be hosting a Career Day for Grade 11 students on
Thursday November 27th. We are looking for guest
speakers who would like to share their career journey with
our students. Each speaker would have an opportunity to
speak as part of a panel.
Below are some of the topics that we would like speakers
to focus on:






Career journey from high school to present
Outlook for career and future job opportunities
Positive and negative aspects of current position
Grade 10 students wrapped up their term in Civics this
week on a powerful note. A lawyer from the Canadian
Civil Liberties Association came to speak to our students
about Human Rights Legislation in Canada. Students
were presented with actual case studies that have
recently been in the courts and asked to work through
these scenarios as a "what would you do?" This is an
excellent opportunity for our young people to explore
their rights and responsibilities as Canadian citizens.
