The company was founded in 1995 by Mr. Nicolaos Velliades, with a specific focus to underwrite marine risks and where he envisaged fulfilling all needs of the Shipping Industry with reliable insurance solutions. In 2013, AIGAION achieved a 95% renewal rate of its vessel and yacht contracts, which corresponds to approximately 1.5 million registered tonnage and premiums of 2 million US dollars. Additionally, the company significantly increased its clients’ base, thus confirming the confidence of the shipping sector, for its expertise and high-quality services. AIGAION is the leader in marine insurance in Greece and perhaps the only one that brings approximately 7-8 million US dollars in currency into the country, through its international activities, thus contributing to the Greek economy. The company’s clientele in the marine sector comprises of Greek ship-owners and shipping companies based in Greece, as well as ship-owners from the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey. Furthermore, within the framework of its business plan and having the strong support of Lloyds of London, AIGAION is planning to expand its marine insurance activities in Cyprus, where it currently operates via liability coverage for some local major infrastructure marine projects. Furthermore, AIGAION is probably the only Greek company, which is able to commit funds for liability protection up to 500 million US dollars, having the long-lasting and strong support of reinsurance contracts at Lloyds of London. AIGAION is also able to issue a certification (blue card), both for liability and for war/terrorist acts for Greek ships, that sail to Turkey and other Mediterranean countries that have adopted the Athens Convention. Last but not least, it is also worth noting that AIGAION is probably the only Greek business, which has “freedom of services” to conduct marine insurance businesses in the United Kingdom. www.aigaion.gr Transas Marine is a world-leading developer and supplier of high technology software and hardware solutions for transport, oil-andgas, security and education industries.
