Paul, in our second
reading, tells us that we
don’t know when the
reign of God will come,
nor should we be
overly worried about it. His image of the thief in the night
does focus on the unexpected but to be always totally
alert is impossible. We’ll end up on edge and eventually
we will let down our guard. Paul reminds us that we
live in the light of the Resurrection. We are not to be
afraid knowing that Jesus has only our good in mind.
Fr. Ron
Did You Know…
Last Sunday, Catholics celebrated the Feast of the
Dedication of the Lateran Basilica. Why?
A church building represents Heaven, the New Jerusalem.
Since Heaven is beautiful, Catholics have always strived
to make their churches as beautiful as possible. Part of a
church’s beauty comes from its stained glass.

Did you know that we’ve been using stained glass for
centuries to try and recreate the New Jerusalem described
in Rev 21:18–21? St. John says that Heaven is brilliant
like jewels, emeralds, sapphires, etc. We know how
beautiful those stones are when sunlight hits them.
Similarly, when bright sunlight hits stain-glass windows,
the inside of the church lights up in a beautiful display of
brilliant colors.
Readings for the Week
We must all constantly reflect upon our own behavior in
church and remember that it is not just another building.

Catholic churches truly are Heaven on Earth, like the
Temple in Jerusalem of old. Ancient Jews believed God’s
presence dwelled in the center of the Temple in a place
called the Holy of Holies, and we know that God’s Body
dwells in the heart of our churches in a new holy of holies,
the Tabernacle. If Jesus got so angry at the Jews for
disrespecting the Father’s spiritual presence in the Temple
(Jn 2:13–16), how much more angry do you think He’d be
at those who disrespect His own physical presence in the
Tabernacle. I for one, don’t want to find out.
Chris and Flip Putthoff in the loss of
their beloved father, Michael Putthoff.
Bob and Kelley Knust and family in
the loss of Bob’s mother, Debra Knust.
Debra was the grandmother of
Madelynne, Jackson and Meghan.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and may perpetual light
shine upon them. May they rest in peace.

Conversation With God
Do you have a deep lifelong
friendship with God?
A great moment in our lives is when we realize that a life with
prayer is better than a life without prayer.
We as Christians need to continue to develop our prayer life.
We need to listen to what God is teaching us in the deep
recesses of our heart, our mind, in our soul.
We need to take time to be silent so that we can hear our Lord
speaking to us. Whether it be kneeling at the foot of our bed,
sitting quietly in a chair, going for a peaceful walk, or sitting/
kneeling quietly before the Tabernacle in Church, we need to
be open to our Lord.
We need to be willing to listen to His inspirations that come
in the “quiet of our soul”. We need to shut out all the noise and
chaos of this world. We do this by being still, silent, and letting
God come into our lives. If this is hard for you at first, then
start by silently repeating over and over “Jesus I trust in you,
I need you.” Repeat until your mind quiets down, then just
be still.
God wants to be our friend, to help us, guide us, and to love
us. Give God some time each day and you will be amazed of
the great peace God will grant you.

great. We don't have final figures in yet, but we had about

1 Corinthians 12:29-31
God provided us a Cornerstone, precious in His sight.
He calls each of us, as Living Stones, to be built into a
dwelling place upon this Cornerstone, which is Christ
Jesus our Lord and Savior. At St. John LaLande, we
are surrounded by Living Stones, those who serve the
Lord through service to each of us and our parish
community. So that we may pray in thanksgiving for
their stewardship, please provide their name(s) to the
Parish Office at 229-3378.
Office Support
Thanks to all our sponsors, those who donated, those who
worked so hard to put it together, and all those who so
generously bid on the items.
And as the plaque states at the entrance to the school, "Let
it be known to all who enter here that Christ is the reason
for this…"

Our Father’s Promise
The Greatest Commandment
In the Bible God tells each of us the greatest
commandment is to love God and love your
neighbor as yourself. God expects us to help
one another and share our blessings with our
church and community. Our parish could not
do all that it does without the time, talent and treasure of our
parish family. Tithing is one way of giving back to God in the
many blessings He has given to you.

The energy shared between people makes for great marriages,
families and organizations and shapes the way we feel about
each other.

Look to the current friendships...most likely there are good
buddies who fulfill several positive roles in your life.
Invest in those relationships by making "we" time.

Seek new friends...take up a class or hobby that interests
you and you will find other people with similar interests.

Expand your social network by hosting a party and asking
your friends to bring new friends.

Look to your spouse...friendship within marriages account
for more than 70% of overall marriage satisfaction.
