ELCM affirms equal opportunity in hiring practices. Offers of employment are expected to be made without regard to disability, race, color, religion, sex, national origin or age. In addition, ELCM sets forth the expectation that all participating employers will not harass any registrant or other employer in either an emotional, physical or sexual way. Anyone who believes that he or she has been a victim of sexual harassment or discrimination, or believes that he or she has witnessed conduct that would constitute sexual harassment or discrimination, should report the matter immediately to one of the ELCM staff. The report should be made as soon as possible after the incident of alleged harassment or discrimination occurs; failure to report the matter promptly to one of the ELCM staff may hamper effective administration action. REMINDERS TO CANDIDATES 1. Be sure your cell phone is TURNED OFF! 2. You must wear your name tag. 3. Expect to spend 5-10 minutes with each employer, but take your cues from the recruiter. Be sure to get the recruiter’s name and title for use in follow-up contact. Ask for his/her business card. 4. Many organizations require candidates to submit an online application as part of their selection process. Do not be discouraged if representatives direct you to their web page for this purpose. It is simply one more step in the process to secure employment with their organization. 5. If the waiting line to talk to a particular employer is too long, go to another employer and come back later. 6. Feel free to talk to employers who have not advertised for your major, stressing your qualifications for a job with that company. But do not be insulted if they tell you they are only interested in specific majors. 7. If you need assistance or have questions, come to the ELCM table at the entrance to Marauder Court and speak with an ELCM Professional or ask someone wearing an ELCM staff badge. 8. Follow-up with employers is extremely important. A Thank You note should be sent within 48 hours to all employers that you spoke with at the Fair. Visit MU’s Office of Experiential Learning and Career Management if you need assistance. 9. WE WANT YOUR FEEDBACK! The ELCM office will email a short survey to you in the next few days. Please take time to complete the survey so that we may bring MU’s students the best employment opportunities we can. FASTENAL COMPANY The Fastenal story began in 1967 when Bob Kierlin pooled together $30,000 with four friends and opened the first Fastenal store, a 1,000 sq. ft. shop in his hometown of Winona, MN. (The original business plan was to dispense nuts and bolts via custom vending machines, but the technology proved impracticable at the time. Several decades would pass before Fastenal finally popularized industrial vending.) After surviving the typical struggles of a startup business, Fastenal gradually found its niche – by going the extra mile for customers and providing the kind of service that kept them coming back. Kierlin later drilled this approach down to four simple words: Growth Through Customer Service.
