LIGHTNING PROTECTION
Training of specialist in lightning protection
After the success of the first training in French (first semester 2013), Professor Christian
Bouquegneau* (University of Mons, Faculty of Applied Sciences, General Physics, 9 rue de
Houdain, MONS) will organize, under the aegis of BEC-CEB, during Autumn term 2014, a
training in English(EN)/Dutch(NL), in 10 afternoons (from 14:00 to 17:00 ; cf. schedule
below), at the ‘Faculté Polytechnique, Université de Mons’, a training on the new
standardization (international, European, and Belgian : IEC NBN EN 62305, Ed. 2 : 2010) in
lightning protection.
This training includes 4 modules. A written proof of attendance will be delivered to hardworking students. To get a written proof of success in the Training of specialist in lightning
protection, and have the title of specialist related to the NBN EN 62305 standard, the trainee
will have to pass an exam on the 4 modules topics.
Module 1 (2 afternoons : Thursday September 25, and October 2, 2014) : lightning
phenomenology, lightning effets, general principles of lightning protection (EN, EN).
Module 2 (3 afternoons : Thursday October 9, and 23, and November 6, 2014) : lightning
risk assessment, case studies analysis. Visit of the High-Voltage Laboratory (EN, EN, EN).
Module 3 (3 afternoons : Thursday November 13, 20, and 27, 2014) : lightning protection :
electrogeometric model, separation distance, installations, maintenance, inspection, natural
components…(EN, EN, NL).
Module 4 (2 afternoons : Thursday December 11, and 18, 2014) : lightning protection of
electric end electronic systems (EN, NL).
