Saints of the Day: Martyrs Onesiphoros and Porphyrios of Ephesus; Venerable Matrona of Constantinople;

GREAT VESPERS
NOTE TO CLERGY: Remember to include this special petition in all Great Litanies before the one for the
head of state, as directed by the Antiochian Archdiocese.
Deacon:
For Metropolitan Paul, Archbishop John, and for their quick release from captivity and
safe return, let us pray to the Lord.
Choir:
Lord, have mercy.
1.) We say the Sunset Psalm 104(103)
2.) We chant “O Lord, I have cried ...” in Tone 5 with ten stichera:
Six stichera for the Resurrection from the Octoechos (Nassar, 168; Kazan, Vesp., 58)
Four stichera for the St. Nektarios in Tone 1 (Men. Nov. 9, Vesp.)
Tone 5
Resurrection (Nassar, 168; Kazan, Vesp., 58)
Verse 10: Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise Thy name.
With thy noble Cross, O Christ, thou hast put the devil to shame, and with thy Resurrection thou hast
annihilated the thorn of death. Thou hast saved us too from the gates of death. Wherefore, do we
glorify thee, O only One.
Verse 9: The righteous shall wait for me until Thou recompense me.
The Bestower of resurrection to mankind was verily led like a lamb to slaughter. Therefore, the
captains of hades were terrified by him, and its portals of agony were lifted; for Christ the King of
glory hath entered it, saying to those in bonds, Come ye out! and to those in darkness, Be ye
manifest!
Verse 8: Out of the depths have I cried to Thee, O Lord, Lord hear my voice.
The wonder is verily great; for the Creator of unseen creatures hath suffered in the flesh for his love
of mankind; and the deathless One hath risen up. Come ye, therefore, O tribes of the nations, let us
bow to him in worship; for by his compassion have we been liberated from disobedience and have
learned how to praise the one God in three Persons.

Tone 5 Eothinon 11
Verse 7: Let Thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication.
O Light that is not apprehended by eventide, we offer thee evening worship; for thou hast risen on
the world at the completeness of time as in a mirror; and thou didst descend to hades and dissolved
the darkness therein, revealing to the nations the light of the Resurrection. Wherefore, O Lord, Giver
of light, glory to thee.
Verse 6: If Thou, O Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? For with Thee
there is forgiveness.
Let us praise with words of glorification Christ, the Element of our salvation; for by his. rising from
the dead he hath saved the world from falsehood, and the ranks of angels rejoiced; and the falsehood
of demons hath vanished; and Adam rose up from the fall; and the authority of Diabolus was
repudiated.
Verse 5: Because of Thy name have I waited for Thee, O Lord; my soul hath waited upon Thy
word, my soul hath hoped in the Lord.
When the guardian soldiers were appointed by the transgressors of the law, they were instructed by
them to conceal the Resurrection of Christ; for they said to them, Take ye silver and say, Behold
when we were asleep the corpse was stolen from the tomb. But who hath ever seen or heard at any
time that a corpse was stolen, especially if it were naked and embalmed, leaving its wrappings in the
grave? Be ye not deceived, O Jews, but learn ye the sayings of the Prophets, and understand that this
One in truth is the Savior of the world, the omnipotent One.
Tone 1 -- **O strange wonder**
St. Nektarios (Men. Nov. 9, Vesp.)
Verse 4: From the morning watch until night, from the morning watch let Israel trust in the Lord.
O strange wonder! In these latter times, blazing bright with splendor, the all-wise Nektarios hath
shone out upon the world like a most brilliant lamp, while making the faithful shine with the divine
Gospel’s saving and guiding light by means of his godly words, his blameless conduct, and Godpleasing way of life. For this cause, the Holy Spirit glorified him mightily, and he freely doth heal all
who invoke him with undoubting faith.
Verse 3: For with the Lord there is mercy and with Him is abundant redemption, and He will
deliver Israel from all His iniquities.
Verse 2: Praise the Lord, all ye nations. Praise Him, all ye people.
Great, O Savior, is Thy providence! For as Thou hast promised, with the gift of miracles hast Thou
glorified Nektarios as Thy true friend, who glorified Thee on earth by his illustrious life, clearly
showing all the power of love for Thee, and how it lifteth a man to the heights by grace. Wherefore,

by his intercessions grant forgiveness of our sins and Thy peace, which is perfect, unto us, Thou
Who art more than good.
Verse 1: For His mercy is great towards us, and the truth of the Lord endureth forever.
All the faithful form a choir today, filled with joy and gladness on thy shining festival, O sacred
Nektarios, extolling thee with hymns. In solemn and mystic dance, the Church of Christ doth exult in
her champion, who rose up in these latter times an indestructible pillar and ground of truth. And we
cry to Christ our Savior: Wondrous is Thy love for man, for Thou givest Thy servant as a comforter
in all our griefs.
Tone 6
Doxasticon for St. Nektarios (Men. Nov. 9, Vesp.)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Today, like a newly appeared star, the feast of the hierarch Nektarios hath gloriously shone forth,
illuminating the Church of Christ. Come, therefore, ye multitudes of Orthodox, let us cry unto him
with a voice of exceeding gladness: Rejoice, thou who didst emulate the life of the ancient fathers in
these evil days wherein the love of the many is waxed cold, as the Savior said. Rejoice, thou who
didst join virtue to instruction, making the souls of the faithful bright with the word of thy wisdom.
Rejoice, thou adornment of high priests, protector of Aegina, and ardent helper of thy flock.
Wherefore, O all-blessed Nektarios, as thou standest before the throne of the Divine Majesty, do
thou intercede unceasingly for those who with faith celebrate thine ever-venerable memory.
Tone 5
Theotokion for the Resurrection (Nassar, 169; Kazan Vesp., 70)
Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
The sign of the virgin bride who knew not wedlock was at one time revealed in the Red Sea; for
there Moses did cleave the waters, and there Gabriel was the minister of a miracle. At that time
Israel crossed the deep and their feet were not wet, and now the Virgin hath given birth to Christ
without seed. The sea remained uncrossed after the passing of Israel, and the blameless one
remained incorruptible after giving birth to Emmanuel. Therefore, O eternal God, who wast before
eternity, and who didst appear as man, have mercy upon us.
3.) The Entrance is made with the censer, and we chant "O gladsome Light ..." followed by the Prokeimenon
"The Lord is King ..." in Tone 6 with its stichoi.
Saturday Prokeimenon in Tone Six
Deacon:
The Evening Prokeimenon!
Choir (Refrain):
The Lord is King, and hath clothed Himself with majesty. (ONCE)
Verse 1: The Lord is robed; He is girded with strength. (Refrain)

THE OLD TESTAMENT READINGS
The First Passage
Deacon: Wisdom!
Reader: The Reading from Proverbs. (10:7, 6; 3:13-16; 8:6, 34-35, 4, 12, 14, 17, 5-9; 1:23; 15:4)
Deacon: Let us attend!
Reader: The memory of the righteous is celebrated with praise and the blessing of the Lord is upon
his head. Blessed is the man who hath found wisdom and the mortal who hath
understanding, for it is better to purchase her than treasuries of gold and silver. She is more
precious than precious stones and all that is precious is unworthy of her. For length of days
and years of life are in her right hand; and in her left hand are riches and glory. Out of her
mouth proceeds righteousness and she bears law and mercy upon her tongue. Hear me, O
child, for I will speak noble things. Blessed is the man who keeps my ways, for my ways are
the ways of life, and in them is prepared favor from the Lord. Therefore, hear me, I pray
thee, and utter my voice to the sons of men: For I, Wisdom, have dwelt with counsel and
knowledge and I have called upon understanding. Counsel and safety are mine,
understanding and strength are mine. I love those who love me and those seeking me shall
find grace. Understand craftiness, O ye who are simple, and imbibe knowledge, ye who are
untaught. Hear me again, for I will speak noble things: I will open my mouth and from my
lips shall come what is right. For my throat shall meditate truth; false lips are an
abomination before me. All the words of my mouth are righteous; there is nothing in them
that is twisted or perverse. They are all straight to him who understands and right to those
who find knowledge. I shall instruct you in truth, so that your hope will be in the Lord and
ye shall be filled with the Spirit.
The Second Passage
Deacon: Wisdom!
Reader: The Reading from the Wisdom of Solomon. (4:7-15)
Deacon: Let us attend!
Reader: The righteous man, though he die early, will be at rest. For old age is not honored for length
of time, nor measured by number of years; but understanding of grey hair for men, and a
blameless life is ripe old age. There was one who pleased God and was loved by him, and
while living among sinners he was taken up. He was caught up lest evil change his
understanding or guile deceive his soul. For the fascination of wickedness obscures what is
good, and roving desire perverts the innocent mind. Being perfected in a short time, he
fulfilled long years; for his soul was pleasing to the Lord, therefore he took him quickly
from the midst of wickedness. Yet the peoples saw and did not understand, nor take such a
thing to heart, that God’s grace and mercy are with his elect, and he watches over his holy
ones.
The Third Passage
Deacon: Wisdom!
Reader: The Reading from Wisdom of Solomon. (Prov. 10:31-32; 11:4, 7, 19; 13:2, 9; 8:17; 15:2;
14:33; 22:11; Eccl. 8:1; Wis. 6:13, 12, 14-16; 7:30; 8:2-4, 7-9, 17-18, 21; 9:1-5, 10-11, 14)
4
November 9, 2014, Nektarios the Wonderworker of Aegina & 7th Sunday of Luke
Tone 5 Eothinon 11
Deacon: Let us attend!
Reader: The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut off. The
lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked, what is perverse.
Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. When the
wicked dies, his hope perishes, and the expectation of the godless comes to naught. He who
is steadfast in righteousness will live, but he who pursues evil will die. From the fruit of his
mouth a good man eats good, but the desire of the treacherous is for violence. The light of
the righteous rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked will be put out. I love those who love me,
and those who seek me diligently find me. The tongue of the wise dispenses knowledge, but
the mouths of fools pour out folly. Wisdom abides in the mind of a man of understanding,
but it is not known in the heart of fools. He who loves purity of heart, and whose speech is
gracious, will have the king as his friend. Who is like the wise man? And who knows the
interpretation of a thing? A man’s wisdom makes his face shine, and the hardness of his
countenance is changed. She hastens to make herself known to those who desire her.
Wisdom is radiant and unfading, and she is easily discerned by those who love her, and is
found by those who seek her. He who rises early to seek her will have no difficulty, for he
will find her sitting at his gates. To fix one’s thought on her is perfect understanding, and he
who is vigilant on her account will soon be free from care, because she goes about seeking
those worthy of her, and she graciously appears to them in their paths, and meets them in
every thought. For it is succeeded by the night, but against wisdom evil does not prevail. I
loved her and sought her from my youth, and I desired to take her for my bride, and I
became enamored of her beauty. She glorifies her noble birth by living with God, and the
Lord of all loves her. She is an initiate in the knowledge of God, and an associate in His
works. And if anyone loves righteousness, her labors are virtues; for she teaches self-control
and prudence, justice and courage; nothing in life is more profitable for men than these. And
if anyone longs for wide experience, she knows the things of old, and infers the things to
come; she understands turns of speech and the solutions of riddles; she has foreknowledge
of signs and wonders and of the outcome of seasons and times. Therefore I determined to
take her to live with me, knowing that she would give me good counsel and encouragement
in cares and grief. When I considered these things inwardly, and thought upon them in my
mind, that in kinship with wisdom there is immortality, and in friendship with her, pure
delight, and in the labors of her hands, unfailing wealth, and in the experience of her
company, understanding, and renown in sharing her words, I went about seeking how to get
her for myself. But I perceived that I would not possess wisdom unless God gave her to
me—and it was a mark of insight to know whose gift she was—so I appealed to the Lord
and besought Him, and with my whole heart I said: “O God of my fathers and Lord of
mercy, Who hast made all things by Thy word, and by Thy wisdom hast formed man, to
have dominion over the creatures Thou hast made, and rule the world in holiness and
righteousness, and pronounce judgment in uprightness of soul, give me the wisdom that sits
by Thy throne, and do not reject me from among Thy servants. For I am Thy slave and the
son of Thy maidservant, a man who is weak and short-lived, with little understanding of
judgment and laws; Send her forth from the holy heavens, and from the throne of Thy glory
send her, that she may be with me and toil, and that I may learn what is pleasing to Thee.
She knows and understands all things, and she will guide me wisely in my actions and guard
me with her glory. The reasoning of mortals is worthless, and our designs are likely to fail.”

Tone 5
Doxasticon & Theotokion at the Litia Procession (Men. Nov. 9, Vesp.)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Come, ye kindreds of the faithful, with one accord let us run in spirit to Aegina, to behold the
awesome wonders which the right hand of the Most High hath worked even now. For, as He
truthfully promised, He hath glorified with eternal grace the godly-minded Nektarios, who hath
excelled in the precepts of the Gospel. Wherefore, He hath shown his venerable bones to be full of
fragrance, and a fountain of healing for them that reverently draw nigh. Taking our fill of the sweet
savor of life that cometh forth from them, let us cry out like David: Great art Thou, O Lord, and
there is no end to Thy majesty, through which, O Lover of mankind, save our souls.
Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
We the faithful bless thee, O Virgin Theotokos, and we glorify thee, as is meet and proper: O
unshaken city, impregnable battlement, invincible protection, and sheltering refuge of our souls.
5.) At the Aposticha, we chant four stichera for the Resurrection from the Octoechos in Tone 5
Tone 5
O Christ Savior, who didst become incarnate without leaving heaven, thee do we magnify with the
voices of song; for thou didst accept the Cross and death for the sake of our human race; for thou art
the Lord, the Lover of mankind. Thou didst demolish the gates of hades, rising on the third day, and
saving our souls.
Verse 1: The Lord is King and hath put on glorious apparel. The Lord hath put on His apparel
and hath girt Himself with strength.
Thy side being stabbed, O Giver of life, didst nevertheless overflow for all with springs of
forgiveness, life, and salvation. And accepting death in the flesh, thou didst bestow on us
deathlessness. And dwelling in a tomb, thou didst free us and raise us in glory with thee, since thou
art God. Wherefore, do we exclaim to thee, O Lord, Lover of mankind, glory to thee.
Verse 2: For He hath established the world so that it shall never be moved.
Wonderful is thy Crucifixion and thy descent to hades, O Lord, Lover of mankind; for thou didst
lead it captive, since thou art God, raising with thee in glory those who of old had been chained.
Thou didst open to them paradise and didst make them worthy to enjoy it. Grant us, therefore,
forgiveness of sins, who glorify thy third-day Resurrection, and prepare us for dwellings in paradise,
since thou art compassionate.
Verse 3: Holiness becometh Thy house, O Lord, forevermore.
O thou who, for our sake, didst submit to sufferings in the flesh, and who didst rise from the dead in
three days, heal the sufferings of our bodies and lift us up from our heavy sins, O Lover of mankind,
and save us.

Doxasticon for St. Nektarios (Men. Nov. 9, Vesp.)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
While the heavenly Jerusalem possesseth thy sanctified soul with the spirits of the Saints, O
celebrated Nektarios, the Isle of Aegina possesseth thy grace-gushing relics as God-given riches, and
a place of free healing of all manner of sickness and every affliction; for when the suffering have
recourse thereto from all parts of the earth, they receive healing and the fulfillment of their petitions
that are unto salvation. And with a grateful heart they glorify the Lord Who hath glorified thee.
Intercede with Him, we beseech thee, that our souls be saved.
Tone 8
Theotokion for the Resurrection (Nassar, 193)
Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
O Virgin without groom, blameless one, Mother of the high God; O thou who didst conceive in the
flesh in an inexplicable way, receive the petitions of thy servants, O thou who bestowest on all the
purification of sins; and in receiving our petitions beseech thou Him for the salvation of us all.
6.) St. Simeon's Prayer and Holy God…
7.) At the Apolytikia, we chant:
Tone 5
The Resurrection from the Octoechos (Nassar, 171; Kazan Vesp., 169)

the last years, O Nektarios, we faithful honor thee as a Godly servant of Christ, for thou pourest forth
healings of every kind for those who piously cry out: Glory to Christ Who hath glorified thee. Glory
to Him Who hath made thee wondrous. Glory to Him Who worketh healings for all through thee.
Tone 1
Resurrectional Theotokion (Nassar, 140; Kazan Vesp., 162)

spacious than the heavens, in that thou bore thy Creator. Wherefore, glory to Him Who abode in
thee; glory to Him Who came from thee; glory to Him, Who through thy birth-giving hath set us
free.

1.) At the beginning of Orthros the Troparia and Theotokion
(“O Lord, save Thy people... Do Thou who of Thine own good will... O champion dread...”)
are always said/intoned and are NEVER chanted.
2.) All six of the Orthros Psalms must be said in their entirety.
(Note: In the Kazan Byzantine Music volume for Orthros, there is an omission in the first introductory
stichos. It should read, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.” Please make
this correction in your books.)
3.) After the Litany of Peace and the exclamation “For unto Thee are due…”
Chant “God is the Lord…” with its stichoi
Tone 5

4.) The Little Litany is intoned with the exclamation “For Thine is the might...”
5.) The Kathismata are from the Octoechos for Tone 5 (Nassar, 171; Kazan Sun. Mat., 37), and from the
Menaion for St. Nektarios (Men., Nov. 9, Mat.).
In place of the theotokion of the first kathisma, say:
Rejoice, O uncrossed gate; rejoice, O wall and protection of those who hasten unto thee; rejoice, O quiet haven,
who hast not known wedlock, O thou who hast given birth in the flesh to thy Creator and God. Thou shalt
continue to intercede for the sake of those who praise and worship thy birth-giving.
Then, say the following third kathisma for St. Nektarios:
An expounder of Orthodox piety, an interpreter making known unto all the doctrines and usages that God gave
to His holy Church, thou didst set in good order the minds of all pious folk and didst guide them aright to
salvation through love of God. Wherefore, thou didst raise up by divine inspiration a convent of righteous nuns,
whom thou leddest to sanctity through thy teachings and way of life. And thou hast left thy body behind as a
source of comfort and unfailing cures for them that praise thee with longing, O divine Nektarios.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Since Nektarios knew thee to be the urn of the Manna from Heaven, O Bride of God, the blazing and rational
lampstand bearing the Light of all, he was justly enlightened in soul by thy shining beams as a doer of virtue
and worker of God’s commands. Therefore did he herald thee in Orthodox manner to be the exceeding pure
Virgin Mother of Christ our God, thou that hast borne the Angels’ Lord. And we, by him instructed aright, also
glorify thee as the Queen of all, our Mediatress and shelter, praying for us day and night.
6.) Benedictions (Evlogetaria) in Tone 5.
7.) The Little Litany is intoned with the exclamation “For blessed is Thy Name ...”
8.) The Hypakoë, Anabathmoi and the Prokeimenon with its accompanying stichos are all from the Octoechos
Tone 5. (Nassar, 172; Kazan, Sun. Mat., 54).
9.) The 11th Eothinon Gospel (Nassar, 200) is chanted from the Holy Table.
10.) Following "In that we have beheld the Resurrection of Christ ..."
(Nassar, 113; Serv. Bk., 66; Kazan Sun. Mat., 66)
**In the last line of this prayer in several Archdiocesan publications, there is an erroneous omission. It
should read: “for in that He endured the Cross for us, He hath destroyed death by death.”
11.) Psalm 50 (Nassar, 82; Serv. Bk., 66; Kazan Sun. Mat., 66)

12.) Troparia following Psalm 50 (Serv. Bk., 67; Kazan Sun. Mat., 67-8)
13.) The Intercession then follows.
14.) Read the Kontakion & Oikos, then the Synaxarion
Fifth Tone Resurrectional Kontakion and Oikos (Plain Reading)
Thou didst descend into Hades, my Savior, and shattered its gates, for Thou art almighty. As
Creator, Thou didst raise the dead and destroy the sting of death. Thou didst deliver Adam from the
curse, O loving One. Therefore, all cry out to Thee: O Lord, save us.
Having heard the words of the angel, the women were overjoyed. They ceased their lamenting and
trembling, and didst behold the Resurrection. And behold, Christ approached them, saying: Rejoice.
Take courage, for I have conquered the world and have saved the captives. Hasten and announce to
the Disciples that I go before them into Galilee to announce the news. Therefore, we cry out unto
Thee: O Lord, save us.
The Synaxarion (Plain Reading)
On November 9 in the Holy Orthodox Church, we commemorate our father among the saints
Nektarios of Aegina, Metropolitan of Pentapolis in Egypt, the wonderworker.
Verses
Since thou drinkest the nectar of life eternal, thou gushest, O Nektarios, streams of healings.
On the ninth, the soul of Nektarios was taken from his body.
Nektarios was born in Selyvria of Thrace on October 1, 1846. Because of his brilliance and holiness,
Nektarios ascended in the Church of Alexandria from monk to metropolitan of Pentapolis in eastern
Libya. His flock loved him. Nektarios’ swift ascent aroused the envy of lesser clergy and laity. In
1890, Patriarch Sophronios relieved the innocent Metropolitan Nektarios of his duties and
commanded him to leave Egypt. He became a provincial preacher and teacher around Athens.
Through his eloquent sermons his untiring labors to educate fitting men for the priesthood, his
generous alms and deeds despite his own poverty, and the meekness and fatherly love that were
manifest in him, Nektarios became a spiritual guide to many. In 1904, he began the building of Holy
Trinity Convent on the island of Aegina. Nektarios spent the rest of his life there, and through his
prayers delivered the island from drought, healed the sick, and cast out demons. The saint’s relics
continue to work miracles since his entry into eternal life on this day in 1920. He was canonized in
1961. In 1998, Patriarch Petros VII and the Holy Synod of Alexandria begged the saint to forgive
them and their predecessors.
On this day, we also commemorate the Martyrs Onesiphoros and Porphyrios of Ephesus; Venerable
Matrona of Constantinople; righteous mother Theoktista of Lesvos; Venerable Simeon the
Translator (Metaphrastes); and Venerable Euthymios and Neophytos, founders of Docheiariou
monastery on Athos. By their intercessions, O Christ God, have mercy upon us. Amen.

Tone 2
Eothinon 11 (Nassar, 217; Kazan Sun. Mat., 102)
When the Lord, after his Resurrection, asked Peter thrice, Dost thou love me, He set Him for a
shepherd over His sheep. And when Peter saw the Disciple whom Jesus loved following Him, he
asked the Lord: And what is this? And the Lord said: If I will that he tarry until I come again, what
is that to thee, O Peter my beloved.
Tone 3 - (**Thou Who as God adornest**)
Exaposteilaria & Theotokion for St. Nektarios (Men. Nov. 9 Mat.)
Leap up in joy and gladness, sing a new song, O Church of Christ, to laud thy venerable bridesman,
thy worthy son, Nektarios, the newly manifest daystar shining with healings and marvels.
Leading a life most Godly, wondrously wast thou magnified by the Creator of all things, O wise high
priest, Nektarios; for at the shrine of thy relics is worked all manner of wonders.
O Virgin Theotokos, do thou unceasingly entreat thy Son, the Master Almighty, the God Whose
mercy hath no end, that all the pious be rescued from every need and affliction.

Resurrection from the Octoechos (Nassar, 174)
Verse 8: This glory shall be to all His saints.
The grave, O Lord, having been sealed by the transgressors of the law, thou didst emerge from
within like as thou wast born of the Theotokos; for the incorporeal angels did not know how thou
wert incarnate. Likewise the guardian soldiers were not aware when thou didst rise; for these two
matters were concealed from all seekers. But the wonders appeared to those who worshipped the
mystery in faith. Therefore, grant us who offer praise joy and Great Mercy.
Verse 7: Praise God in His sanctuary: praise Him in the firmament of His power.
O Lord, thou hast demolished the everlasting gates and broken asunder the chains. Thou didst rise
from the tomb, leaving behind thy wrappings and ointments in the grave, in testimony of thy true

three-day Burial, and didst go before into Galilee, O thou who wert kept in a cave. Great, therefore,
are thy mercies, O ineffable Savior; have mercy upon us.
Verse 6: Praise Him for His mighty acts: praise Him according to His excellent greatness.
The women did hasten to thy tomb to behold thee, O Lord, who didst suffer for us. And when they
arrived, advancing, they saw an angel sitting on the stone rolled back from fear. And he shouted to
them, saying, The Lord hath risen. Go and tell the Disciples that the Savior of our souls is risen
from the dead.
Verse 5: Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet. Praise Him with the psaltery and harp.
O Lord Savior, thou didst enter unto thy Disciples, the doors being closed, as thou didst come out of
the sealed tomb, showing the sufferings of the flesh which thou didst accept in long-suffering; for
thou didst submit to pains patiently since thou art the seed of David. But since thou art the Son of
God, thou didst liberate the world. Great therefore, are thy mercies, O incomprehensible Savior.
Have mercy upon us.
Tone 1 - (**Thou art the joy**)
St. Nektarios (Men. Nov. 9 Mat.)
Verse 4: Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; praise Him with stringed instruments and
organs.
Come, let us gather in joy and with songs keep festival on the divine remembrance of the merciful
hierarch, Nektarios, now glorified greatly by Christ for his radiant way of life with gifts of
marvelous healings and awesome signs for the succor of all pious folk.
Verse 3: Praise Him upon the loud cymbals: praise Him upon the high-sounding cymbals. Let
everything that hath breath praise the Lord.
Thy reliquary is as a new Pool of Siloam, ending most grievous sickness and forever bestowing
health and swift deliverance from every distress by the All-holy Spirit’s might for them that draw
nigh with faith in thy sanctity, O illustrious Nektarios.
Verse 2: My mouth shall speak wisdom, and the meditation of my heart shall be of
understanding.
What man can worthily praise Thee for Thy most mighty works, O life-bestowing Savior? Who hast
even now given a ground and indestructible pillar of faith to Thy Church and Thy little flock, the
God-proclaiming Nektarios, who in truth served and worshipped Thee in righteousness.
Verse 1: Thy priests, O Lord, shall be clothed with righteousness, and Thy righteous shall
rejoice.
More than a flowering meadow, thy holy relics give forth a sweet and cheering fragrance that
delighteth the senses of thy pious servants that come to thy shrine, O thrice-blessed Nektarios;
wherefore, thy convent and island and all the Church praise thy grace that God hath given thee.

Doxasticon for Eothinon 11 (Nassar, 219; Kazan Sun. Mat., 197)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
When thou didst show thyself to the Disciples after thy Resurrection, O Savior, thou didst appoint
Simon to shepherd the sheep, for the renewal of love, asking him to tend the flock. And thou didst
say to him, If thou lovest me, O Peter, feed my lambs, feed my sheep. But He at once inquired
concerning the other Disciple, showing His exceeding love. Wherefore, by the intercession of both,
O Christ, keep thy flock from corrupting wolves.
Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Most blessed art thou, O Virgin Theotokos, for through Him that was incarnate of thee is Hades
despoiled, Adam is recalled from the dead, the curse is made void, Eve is set free, death is slain, and
we are endowed with life. Wherefore, in hymns of praise, we cry aloud: Blessed art thou, O Christ
our God, who is thus well pleased, glory to thee.

Tone 8
Having risen from the tomb, and having burst the bonds of Hades, Thou didst loose the
condemnation of Death, O Lord, releasing all mankind from the snares of the enemy. Having
manifested Thyself to Thine Apostles, Thou didst send them forth to proclaim Thee; and through
them Thou hast granted Thy peace unto the civilized world, O Thou Who alone art plenteous in
mercy.
