You are cordially invited to hear and discuss the views of industry on how to make Åland a
pioneer for smart energy solutions. The vision is to establish the most advanced flexible energy
system of the future in Åland.
The event is co-organised by ABB Oy, CLIC Innovation Oy, Empower IM Oy, Fortum Corporation,
Wärtsilä Finland Oy and Åland Technology Center (ÅTC).
The feasibility-study carried out, has studied the possibilities of flexibly linking different future
energy system options and creating a platform in Åland. By creating a versatile platform,
demonstration of smart energy technologies, enabling a high share of renewables can be made in
a real environment. The smart energy system of the future combines Finland’s strengths and
future global needs, i.e. the bioeconomy, cleantech and digitalization, with other functions of
society, such as electric transportation, the food chain and waste management, in a natural and
sustainable way. Åland provides an opportunity to prove it is possible to solve future energy
challenges today by pooling together different interests and fields of excellence.
