Some of the highlights include: • All faculty attended a two day workshop which strengthened understanding about the implementation of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP). • The 36 different After School Activities are in full swing. • Students have been developing their school routines with a clearer understanding of expectations. • Being caring, respectful and demonstrating responsibility continues to be our focus values. As we move into our first reporting period, I encourage you to keep an open channel of communication with the different teachers that your child works with and take note of the upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences. The teachers will arrange specific times for these meetings. Author’s chair is an engaging and fun part of the writing process in our Writers Workshop. It is a special time that is allotted to writers to share their stories with an audience. Students excitedly worked through the writing process. They started with brainstorming ideas for various narratives, drafting several narratives, selecting one to revise and edit with peers and then the teacher. To end with, they typed their final draft and put it all together as a published piece with illustrations. Students were very enthusiastic and anxious to present to their peers and the Principals. Providing students an opportunity to share their hard work is a motivating force for them to become life long writers! A word from the young authors! What was you favourite part of Author’s Chair? “My favourite part of Author’s Chair was reading to the audience.” – Habiba Weldon If you could do anything differently next time, what would it be? “I want to write nonfiction so adults can get new information.” – Yazan Wesam. 3 Important Reminder Drop off: 6:40am-7:00am Pick Up: Promptly after4 school/ASA ending
