This year’s conference will be held on the 11th - 12th December 2014 at the beautiful Cardiff City Hall. Risks of bloodborne virus (BBV) infections remain of great concern in the healthcare setting. As its name indicates, POINTERS (Prevention of Occupational Infections, Treatment and Reporting Strategies) is focused not only on information on the elimination and prevention of healthcare worker exposures to BBVs and other infections, but also on raising awareness in order to improve the reporting, follow-up and management of exposures and occupationally acquired BBV infections. This conference is a result of a unique collaboration between the Infection Prevention Society (IPS) and the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (FOM). The conference is supported by Public Health England, Public Health Wales and the Welsh Government. These organisations have a commitment to healthcare and have worked together to provide a fascinating and topical programme considering BBV infection and other infectious diseases in a healthcare setting. • This will be closely followed by ”Advances in the treatment of HCV; What’s new?” by Dr Ashley Brown. • The topic of Vicky Mason’s session is ”A two year retrospective audit of HIV PEP prescribing from the Emergency and Occupational Health Departments within two NHS London Trusts”. • The first day will close with a round table group discussion led by Dr Melvina Woode Owusu followed by a feedback and sum up from Dr Fortune Ncube.
