He was 63 years of age. Garry Fedorak was born in the Kamsack Hospital on June 24, 1951 to John and Victoria. He grew up and spent most of his life living and working on his parents’ farm in the Stornoway area. In his later years he lived in Yorkton with his mother and then he lived in a group home. Among the things he loved, playing his Ukrainian music records ranks at the top. He very much enjoyed bowling in the evening leagues at the Kamsack Bowling Alley and he could hardly wait until he could curl with his dad in the senior’s league. In the last few years, Garry worked at Saskatchewan Abilities. He must have really enjoyed the work and co-workers there, because even after he became very weak and ill he still wanted to go to work. He was very fond of his cousins, especially Greg from Vancouver. When they got together, they would spend hours talking and laughing at the simplest of things. One of his greatest thrills happened just a couple months ago. Chelsea Mozeski, his community service worker, asked Garry if there was anything he wanted to do in his remaining days. One of his requests was to take a ride in an airplane. Chelsea made the arrangements and Garry took a 40 minute ride in a four-seat airplane. According to Chelsea, he had a blast and could not stop talking about it! A Graveside Service was held on Thursday, October 30 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Crystal Bailey, Certified Celebrant officiating. The provincial government has officially proclaimed this week as Aviation and Aerospace Week, providing an opportunity to celebrate the aviation sector’s many contributions to Saskatchewan and the 25th anniversary of the Saskatchewan Aviation Council (SAC). Through the Aviation Advisory Committee, the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure is partnering with West Wind Aviation to bring water and sewer service to the Wollaston Lake Airport. The ministry is investing about $54,000 in the project with West Wind providing $15,000 in cash and in-kind contributions. “Wollaston Lake is a busy airport and, until now, our passengers and staff had to bring in water and did not have access to modern toilets,” West Wind’s Vice President of Business Development and Customer Relations Dennis Baranieski said. “With this partnership, all users of the airport have the opportunity to improve the services we provide to our customers.” The Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure owns, operates and maintains 17 airports in northern Saskatchewan. The ministry also administers the Community Airports Partnership (CAP). Under CAP, a total of $700,000 in matching grants is made available each year for improvements at municipal and community-owned airports that are not eligible for federal funding. Community airports have received $4.5 million in provincial funding since the program began in 2007. Environment Minister Scott Moe announced today the province of Saskatchewan is adopting a new environmental code that will continue to protect our environment for future generations, while helping to meet the challenges of economic growth. The code is the first of its kind in Canada and the cornerstone of the province’s new results-based approach to environmental regulation. The supporting regulations that make up the first edition of the new Saskatchewan Environmental Code have been introduced upon proclamation of The Environmental Management and Protection Act 2010 and The Forest Resources Management Amendment Act 2010. The code addresses diverse areas such as air quality, environmentally impacted sites, water management and natural resources protection. “The Saskatchewan Environmental Code is based on a new regulatory approach that has environmental protection at its foundation,” Moe said. “This streamlined regulatory process enables municipalities and industry to keep pace with growth, while ensuring Saskatchewan’s environment remains healthy.” Using a results-based approach, the code clearly defines required environmental outcomes, empowering operators and organizations to determine how those results will be achieved or surpassed. This focus on results rather than process will provide the flexibility needed to apply innovative solu- tions, and allow the Ministry of Environment to focus on activities of greatest environmental risk. The process to develop the code was inclusive and transparent, with stakeholders involved at every level. More than 200 experts and industry leaders from all sectors contributed to the development of the content of the code. As well, a 19-member Code Development Committee brought together diverse expertise and provided advice and guidance as the code was developed. In 2012, a draft version of the code was made available for public review. More than 1,300 people responded by attending meetings or providing written submissions. At the conclusion of the public review period, a summary of feedback was made available on the Ministry of Environment’s website at www.environment.gov. sk.ca/Code. “I want to thank all those involved for contributing their time and talents to create a better regulatory system,” Moe said. “The result speaks for itself – a made-inSaskatchewan code that’s innovative, forwardlooking, and good for our environment and our province.” The environmental code will come into force in stages in the new year to allow affected industries to prepare for the change. Chapters dealing with forest management will come into force January 5, 2015, with the remaining chapters in effect on June 1, 2015. Activities not included in the first edition of the code will continue to be regulated as before. Saying thanks New Horizon’s Senior Citizens of Yorkton honoured donors and volunteers at a luncheon held in their hall on Sunday, October 26. A brief membership meeting preceded the afternoon luncheon. On behalf of the club, President Peter Legebokoff expressed appreciation to donors who have made contributions to the organization and to the volunteers who continually contribute their time, energy and talents. The senior’s hall is currently undergoing kitchen renovations and measures are being taken to remedy water seepage, both made possible with funding from New Horizon’s for Senior’s Program and Painted Hand Communioty Development Corporation. New Horizon’s has a very active membership of 100 plus. They are exploring opportunities to expand their programs and welcome new members, ages 55 and over, to participate in their activities and events. For more information call Peter 306-7836109.
