The BJP expects to win
50 out of 89 or 60 out of
111 seats of NMMC: C V Reddy
By Umesh Parida
NAVI MUMBAI: The
Bharatiya Janata Party has chosen to prove
its strength by pointing
to its performances at
both state and national
level and thus it gets a
reason not to have any
kind of alliance with
the Shiv Sena. The BJP
is trying to drive home
the fact that considering the mood of the
Navi Mumbai voters
depicted by recent Assembly elections, it can
easily win 50 seats of
Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation i.e. if
the civic election has to
be based on
the assembly election
results.
T h e
BJP Navi
Mumbai
district
president C
V Reddy
said, “After
calculating
the vote figures based
on the rounds of election and the results
within the municipal
corporation limits of
Navi Mumbai, we will
win 50 seats out of the
existing 89 seats in the
election.” It seems the
urban voters have giv-
en the BJP an upper
hand.
“Further, if the
number of seats in the
NMMC is
increased
to 111 (as
proposed)
then the figure will go
up to 60.
Thus the
score will
remain between 50
and 60,” he
added. This
means that
BJP has set its vision
clear to fight the election to win on its own.
However, C V Reddy did
not talk much about
Shiv Sena.
It can be noted that
BJP has already done
the mathematics clear-
ly for the Navi Mumbai
municipal corporation
election. The eye is all
set. The options are open
for the BJP leaders and
any disgruntled leaders
from Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party or
any other party may
join them. It can be noted that Maharasthra
Navnirman Sean members and other leaders
are all set to join the
party.
The Belapur MLA
Manda Mhatre said,
“Any leader from NCP,
Shiv Sena or other party who would like to
join the party, our door
is open for them.” She
however ruled out there
having been any contacts made by the party to bring in other party leaders to its fold.

NMMC’s LBT revenue
jumps up by ` 65 cr
As against the first half of
previous fiscal year
By Umesh Parida
KOPERKHAIRANE:
There is yet another
good sign in matter of
tax collection. The Navi
Mumbai Municipal
Corporation’s LBT department has registered a massive gain in
tax collection. The
NMMC has collected Rs
355 cr in the first six
months of the current
fiscal year.
However,
the total
collection is
over Rs 65
cr against
the corresponding
period of the last fiscal
year.
Speaking to this
newspaper, the NMMC
LBT department Dy
Commissioner Sudhir
Cheke said, “we have
collected Rs 355 cr up
to end September 2014
of this fiscal year. The
earlier collection was
Rs 290 cr.” It seems
that the NMMC has
mobilized its action
plan to collect the LBT.
Further, the friendly relationship between
the industry and the
civic body has yielded
more results as both
were at loggerheads.
However, the post Supreme Court verdict the
two bodies have started cooperating with
each other.
Though a decision
was taken by the
NMMC general body to
reduce the LBT to 1.5
percent for the industries ahead
of the election the decision of the
state government as
is required
to be taken. However, such an
approval has not been
received or taken as of
yet from the state government as it muddled
in the election time.
In fact, with the
new state government
coming to power,
whether the LBT revision of the industry will
be approved or not is
still a question mark.
Further the BJP in its
manifesto has promised
to do away with the
LBT but the decision
will take much time.

BJP and Sena need each other
After Shiv Sena pramukh Uddhav
Thackeray was persuaded to attend the
swearing-in ceremony of Devendra Fadnavis as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s first
Chief Minister in Maharashtra, the two
parties were expected to conclude a power-sharing agreement quickly. But the
Sena was unwilling to give up its claim for
the deputy chief ministership; it not only
wanted at least a third of the ministerial
berths, but also key portfolios. Thackeray
is not ready to play the role of a junior partner for all time to come.
BJP does have the luxury of the “unconditional support” offered by the Nationalist Congress Party. But the fact that Fadnavis has retained a large number of portfolios, including home, urban development, housing and health, are indications
of the national party’s readiness to keep
the doors open for the Sena.
Sena is BJP’s natural ally. It’s true that
BJP managed to win a big number of seats
this time without joining hands with Sena.
But same might not be the case in the future Assembly elections in Maharashtra.
In the future, like in the past, BJP might
find the need of Sena and hence it would
be wise on BJP’s part to keep the future
in mind while dealing with Sena today.
Sena knows too well that BJP can’t approach NCP. If it does it undermines its
own reputation and the leaders with clean
image like Fadnavis. Ideologically, Sena is
much closer to BJP and also given their
alliance at Parliamentary and Municipality
level.
Now BJP might be thinking of trying to
get support from odd 20 independents for
showing the majority. That might prove to
be a good option but Sena will never forgive BJP if they are sidelined this time.
Actually, it is not fair to see BJP playing hard game with SS. BJP must take SS
on board as SS always stayed with BJP
even when the BJP was not in power. Siva
Sena thought it was a dominant force in
Maharashtra and so it behaved like big
brother before election and did not prepare to allow BJP even 130 seats to contest. During the election campaigning, Shiv
Sena spoke about Marathas, BJP about
Hindutva. Sena was humbled by the BJP.
The elections proved otherwise and the
roles are revised. Sena is not able to reconcile to the present position. This is their
own making. But BJP benefited much because of it alliance with Sena in the earlier
period. BJP still needs the SS crutches in
order to provide a stable government. NCP
is not trustworthy. In the interest of providing stable government and support BJP
got from Sena during their difficult period,
BJP should try to accommodate Sena in
such a way that the interest of both parties is taken care of.

WAY FORWARD : 2020
Imaging is enabling
businesses to take proactive actions by changing the way data is analysed and visualized. In
this era of consumerism, the value chain is
incomplete without providing value to end consumers. 2020 Imaging
is working with a leading handheld manufacturer and a security service provider in releasing a mobile app that
will not only convert the
handheld into a security device but will also
work as an emergency
response application. In
the annals of the security history of India,
this is an inflection
point. The security market is about to be disrupted, one more time.
This time, the epicentre
of the disruption is going to be at 2020 Imaging India’s headquarters

Election results are out but
politicking yet to begin in a
big way in Panvel
By Umesh Parida
PANVEL: Earlier the
reports from the local
media and other media
were being found flooded with party releases.
However, post electoral
defeat of the Peasants
and Workers Party,
Congress, Shiv Sena
and Bharatiya Janata
Party, the mediafriendly leaders are
slowly shying away.
The reporters were
getting frequent press
releases during the election and over the last
several months. However, with the results
out the political activity has come to a low.
The Congress which
was decimated in Panvel and Uran hardly
find its leaders much

The last major media exercise conducted
was the Run for Unity
event on October 31.
Similarly the Congress
has only one issue before it now ant that is
how to save their position in Panvel Municipal Council and keep
the power with it. The
Congress has already
issued a press release to
have membership drive
in the city.
Most active during
these days is the PWP.

boosted.
The PWP leaders
had also organized a silent rally in Panvel in
protest against the killing of Dalits in Ahmednagar.
However, the least
activity is in the BJP of
Panvel which has undergone a massive
change but yet is not
back in action in a big
way even after forming
the government. The
BJP is currently facing
the hit due to political

limited role in the Panvel rural areas. Further the party may intensify its activity till

PANVEL: The
Panvel Municipal Council has
initiated a survey to have the
latest data on
slums in its kitty. The PMC
has already appointed
an
agency in this
regard and the
work is at the
final stages of
completion.
This was stated
by the PMC Jr
Engineer S V
Salunke. The
entire process is likely
to be completed this
month end.
The PMC Junior
Engineer also said that

once the West Indies

Sri Lankan side
was out of sorts in the

However, we enjoy

Letter to the Editor....
Pleasures of reading
“Write to be understood, speak to be heard and read to grow” is a quote
from well known literary critic Lawrence Powell which sheds light on the
importance of reading and writing in simple words.
Stories are written by story tellers to take the readers into the world of
their conception and literature helps the reader to experience a thousand
lives in the course of a single lifetime. Sure, there are many tales told to amuse but the real adventure doesn’t start when one starts to read a book but learns ‘how’ to read it.
To quote Irish philosopher Edmund Burke, “To read without reflecting is like eating without
digesting.” Many people engage in passive reading without knowing the pleasure of ‘reading between the lines’ and beyond. Close reading inspires us and helps us to grow internally. During the
library hours in school, children are supposed to explore books that interest them. Unfortunately,
most of them use the opportunity to read visually stimulating comics that don’t provide much
substance. To influence children to start reading, they need to be provided with books that challenge
them intellectually and encourage them to reflect on things beyond the surface.

When asked about
the need of such survey,
he said, “The slum rehabilitation process
work under the Rajiv
Awas Yojana has commenced. However, the
new government at the
Centre and the state
are planning to have
changes. After all the
central government
has the agenda to provide house to all and
this survey will have
some benefit.”
The latest survey
will have the figure
upto 2014. Another
PMC engineer and city
engineer incharge Sanjay
B Katekar said,
“We have not
yet received the
plot from City
and Industrial
Development
Corporation as
was demanded.” It can be
noted that the
PMC had demanded a plot
from CIDCO to
commence the
slum rehabilitation project
but it is in hold.
Further, the slum
rehabilitation project
will be delayed due to
the change in the Central
government
scheme of Rajiv Awas
Yojana which will
again be fueled by state
government if it wants
to make any changes.
The PMC is getting
ready with the latest
data and this will be a
handy one while dealing with the government agencies in its
plan for slum development.

PANVEL: The newly
elected legislator from
Panvel who is serving
his second term in the

his priorities on the
lines of development.
The main plank of
