Once in a Blue Moon
I
t happened, we witnessed a Blue
Moon this past summer and the
Weasels captured the Port Elgin
Men’s Industrial League Fastball title
with consecutive decisive wins over the
reigning champion Bisons. Both events
are rare and as the clubs age the Bisons
hope to make it rarer. The Weasels aren’t
famous for their comebacks but with the
playoff games going late into the fall and
all going four or five scoreless innings to
start, this left the door wide open for the
Weasel style of play. With veteran
pitching and timely hits late in the games
the Weasels indeed captured the trophy
and bragging rights for the year.
New roster
The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks are
excited to announce their roster for
2014/15. This season 17 Winterhawks
are returning for another run at the Senior
“AA” crown. Included are captain Greg
Thede, who will captain the Winterhawks
for the eighth season. Also among the
returnees are Bryan Kazarian, Trevor
Smith, Jason Hutchinson, Brent
MacDermid, Nick Quaid, Mitch Roulston,
Joe Kirkland, Tyler Kennedy, Andy
Mitchell, Adam Alexander, Brendon
Haefling, Curtis Johnston, Chris King,
Kyle Roulston, Josh Jackson and Blake
Underwood.
Matt Turcotte is no stranger to
Winterhawks fans. “Turk” originally
joined the Winterhawks for their inaugural
season in 2007/08, winning three WOAA
Sr. “AA” championships along the way,
before sitting out the past two seasons
(and playing some mighty fine goals I
might add).
New 'Hawks
Several new additions to the roster
include Andy Fracz, Jordan Smith, Jacob
Brown, Dave Grant, and Dave Mercer.

and native of Courtice, Ontario, who
most notably played four seasons of Jr. A
with Bowmanville.

Forward David Grant comes to the
Winterhawks with a lengthy background
in hockey. The 24-year-old Owen Sound
native had stints in Jr. B with Owen
Sound, Cambridge and Niagara Falls, as
well as two seasons of Jr. A with
Streetsville. Following his junior career,
