Ecospray Technologies specializes in the research & development, design and

ECO-EGC is a multi-pollution Exhaust Gas Cleaning system proprietary of
Ecospray which allows ship-owners to fully comply with the increasingly strict IMO
regulations in terms of SOx, particulate
and NOx emissions in ECA’s, while
they can continue to use low cost HFO
(Heavy Fuel Oil) instead of the more
expensive MGO (Marine Gas Oil).
In addition, Ecospray’s systems result
in no polluting discharges into the sea,
so as to minimize the environmental
footprint and impacts of navigation in
ports and coastal areas.

The unique Ecospray ECO-EGC solution comprises the pretreatment of the
exhaust gas through a patented Catalytic Dry Filter (CDF) and/or a Catalytic
Oxidation Reactor (CatOx) installed upstream of the DeSOx tower (wet
scrubber), i.e. before the economizer in case of its presence.
The composition of the above catalysts has been specifically developed for
treating exhaust gas with high sulphur content. A further advantage of these
catalysts is their very low oxidation activity from SO2 into SO3 whose
contribution helps to avoid aerosol plume at the funnel and additional sulfate
particle matter.
The primary features of this Ecospray technology
consist of:
• Particulate removal (elemental carbon, sulphates
and ashes)
• Continuous soot combustion
• Uncombusted hydrocarbon oxidation
• CO reduction
Downstream the Catalytic Dry Filter / Oxidation
Catalyst Reactor, the exhaust gas enters into the
ECO-SOx Open Loop Tower.

ECO-EGC SYSTEM - HYBRID OPTION
ECO-SOx Hybrid type consists of a dual stage tower. In Open Loop mode the
first stage of the tower (named MKW) operates as a “Wet filter” to remove
particle matters spraying only fresh water.
The second stage continues to work for removing the SO2 using only seawater
injection. The small sludge quantity discharged from the first stage of the tower
can be either stored, and then disposed at the most suitable opportunity /
location, or treated on board.
In Closed Loop mode, the gas flow is treated only in the first stage named
MKW (wet filter), while the second one operates dry. The SO2 is removed
through the injection of a sodium carbonate or NaOH solution which maintains
sufficient alkalinity in the recirculating stream of the liquids to allow a optimum
DeSOx performance.
Conductivity, density and pH of the recirculation flow are the parameters that
control the injection. In Closed Loop mode the blow-down from the MKW wet
filter can be treated either on board by an appropriate wash-water treatment
system or stored for future disposal.
The recirculation liquid is cooled down in order to reduce the exit gas
temperature and avoid white plume at the funnel as well.
Also Ecospray Hybrid EGC system is designed to replace the existing silencer.

ECOSPRAY PORTFOLIO: DeNOx SOLUTIONS
Ecospray has already installed over one hundred ECO-NOx systems for the
abatement of NO2 in many land applicazions including energy production (coal and
biomass boilers, gas turbines, diesel generators), cement, steel and metals
foundries, chemicals plants, as well as in waste incinerators.
Ecospray’s catalytic ECO-NOx systems use SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction)
technology to remove nitrogen oxides up to 98% (T optimum > 300 °C).
Ecospray has recently introduced ECO-NOx, either alone or in combination with
ECO-EGC system, for the treatment of exhaust gas of large marine diesel engines.
NOx reduction process usually begins b
y injecting downstream each gas turbine
a 33% urea solution into the gas flow.
Ecospray uses proprietary lances and
nozzles to obtain a very fine spray that all
ows to reach the most complete and unif
orm mixing between gas and NH3.
The gas + reagent mix passes through a
variable number of catalyst layers whose
amount and positioning depends on the
targeted DeNOx and on the maximum
permissible ammonia slip.

Space restrictions are fairly solved
thanks to the very compact design of EcoDeSOx sea water scrubber.
The
excellent
noise
attenuation
capability of DeSOx tower allows to
remove the existing silencer and to be
installed in the same position and space.
Very often it is also possible to use the
same supporting structures of the
silencer in order to minimize modification
on board.
The above solution results in shorter time
and cheaper cost of installation.
Integrated exhaust fan can be provided
according to the maximum back pressure
required by the diesel engine.
The DeSOx tower weight is similar to the
silencer one, thus very limited or no
additional weight has to be considered in
the ship stability study.
