EXPLORE THE ENTIRE ARCHIPELAGO WITH NORD/SYDLINJEN
TRAVELLING IN THE ARCHIPELAGO HAS NEVER
BEEN EASIER
The new Nord/Sydlinjen allows you to explore a world of seals, small islands, eagles,
cliffs and rocks. The route, which will be in service from 15/6 to 16/8, connects
the outer parts of the archipelago and brings them all closer. The ferries serve at
26 destinations between Simpnäs in the north and Nynäshamn in the south.
Plan a day trip or an entire holiday – there are endless alternatives.
FROM SIMPNÄS IN THE NORTH TO
NYNÄSHAMN IN THE SOUTH, OR VICE VERSA
You can travel in both directions. Either start
at Simpnäs and travel southwards to Nynäshamn,
or begin at Nynäshamn and finish your j ourney at
Simpnäs. And there are any number of choices in
between: you can complete the full route in a
single day, choose a round trip or stop off along
the way.
FERRY TRANSFERS
If you’re planning to travel the full route,
you’ll need to change boats at Möja, Stavsnäs,
Rögrund or Dalarö. From Utö, take a bus to Ålö
and then continue with the regular ferry service
to Nynäshamn.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT CONNECTIONS
You can interrupt your ferry adventure and
connect with bus or train services at various
points along the route, for example there are
buses to Norrtälje and Stockholm from Kapellskär, Yxlan or Blidö. A number of buses serve
Stockholm from Stavsnäs.
ON-BOARD SERVICE
If you’d like to know more about the islands, activities, accommodation and places to eat along our
route, just ask the crew on board. They know
their archipelago and will be happy to help.
LUGGAGE
Our ferries are relatively small and luggage space is
limited. Unfortunately, you can’t reserve space for
your luggage.
FARE EXAMPLES
You will need two tickets to travel the full Nord/Sydlinjen route.
Fare examples (full fare):
Simpnäs–Dalarö SEK 130, Dalarö–Nynashamn SEK 90. Total: SEK 220.

NORRÖRA
Welcome to the archipelago’s most famous ‘movie
celebrity’. It was on Norröra that ”Saltkråkan”, the
Astrid Lindgren TV series, was filmed in the 1960s, and
not much has changed. When you’ve finished enjoying
your coffee, soft drink, pastry and/or ice c ream, look
for some bare, sun-baked rocks and take a swim. Norröra is perfect for a full-day excursion. Take the ferry
from Simpnäs and arrive at Norröra
at 09:50. The boat back leaves Norröra at 17.20 and
arrives back at Simpnäs at 19.00 for connecting bus
services.
YXLAN/BLIDÖ
Yxlan and Blidö are two of the largest islands in the
northern archipelago, with a charming mix of large
summer houses and old boatswain cottages. A beach
on Yxlan’s north-eastern shore offers a scenic view
of Gräsköfjärden and the open sea beyond. One curious attraction is a maze that fishermen used to run
through to ensure a good catch. Stämmarsund, on
Blidö, is home to Hamnkrogen, a popular restaurant
and hostel. Buses serve Norrtälje from both Yxlan
and Blidö.

FINNHAMN
Finnhamn has something for everyone. There are numerous trails – ideal for long walks. Pétanque and footballs
can be loaned and rowing boats or kayaks are available
for hire. There are lots of place to swim, either from the
rocks – perfect for sunbathing – or from the island’s
sheltered sandy beaches. Finnhamn is also a strategic
hub, easy reach to and return from. Lots of boats stop
here daily, making it a convenient starting point for the
other islands in the central archipelago.
STORA KALHOLMEN
Stora Kalholmen offers relaxation, beautiful walks (you
can easily walk around the island in an hour) and smooth,
bare rocks that are perfect to swim from. There’s no
running water, but there is a wood-fired sauna and now
even electricity! The small hostel, the island’s only
house, stands on a cliff overlooking the water. If you’re
looking for peace and quiet, this is the place for you.
MÖJA, BERG OCH MÖJASTRÖM
Möja is an idyllic island with gravel roads that wind their
way past meadows, boathouses and red cottages. It’s an
ideal place to explore on a bike, which you can hire on
the island. You can also rent a kayak and explore the
surrounding archipelago on your own. Berg boasts what
is probably the world’s shortest railway – a 102-meter
long track operated by the Lappen steam locomotive
several times a summer. The Roland Svensson Museum
in Ramsmora, named after the famous painter, is well
worth a visit. You can easily access other parts of the
archipelago from Möja, but it’s also easy to reach Stockholm. Either take a ferry to Sollenkroka and connect with
the bus, or take a ferry all the way to Strömkajen. In the
summer, the trip takes about three hours.
STAVSNÄS
Stavsnäs is the archipelago’s equivalent to Stockholm
Central Station. It is a major hub for both buses and
ferries. From here, you can easily take a detour from
the Nord/Sydlinjen route and visit destinations such
as Sandhamn or Harö. A regular bus service to and from
Slussen in Stockholm ensures quick, easy access to Stavnäs. Once there, you can connect with the Nord/Sydlinjen,
or board another ferry.
RUNMARÖ
One of the largest islands in the archipelago, Runmarö
is home to a number of villages featuring typical archipelago architecture. The island offers activities such as
swimming, fishing and kayaking. Distances on the island
are quite long so hiring a bike is recommended. The land
scape alternates between pine forests and lush, deciduous woods. People with a botanical interest will be pleased to know that there are 27 varieties of orchid growing
on the island.
NÄMDÖ, ÖSTANVIK OCH SOLVIK
Nämdö is a vibrant archipelago community with a number
of villages and farms. Östanvik Farm in Östanvik, dates
from the 1500s. There are car-free gravel roads ideal for
walking or cycling. There are also several nice beaches,
including Östanvik and Långvik. From Nämdö ferries serve
Björkvik, Saltsjöbaden or Trinntorp on Tyresö. Or you can
take the boat all the way to Strömkajen.
RÖGRUND
Situated between Nämdöfjärden and Jungfrufjärden,
Rögrund is probably the only island in the archipelago
that features a crocodile. The crocodile, which lives on
the southern headland and is made of concrete, is popular
with children, who enjoy climbing on it. A lookout tower
marks the island’s highest point, and pleasant, childfriendly bathing spots complete the picture. The island
is a haven of tranquillity, and a place you can relax the
way you prefer. Lounge in the sauna or a hot tub, or hire
a kayak and paddle a few laps around the island.
DALARÖ
Dalarö has a long, fascinating history dating back to the
1600s. Throughout the centuries, ships to and from
Stockholm have stopped here. Piloting and services work
have always played an important part in the island’s
economy, as evidenced by the imposing customs
building.
Today Dalarö is an important hub for routes to and
from the archipelago. From here, ferry serve for the
southern archipelago, which means you can easily
hop off Nord/Sydlinjen and catch another ferry to,
say, Kymmendö. A short bus ride and a commuter
train journey will take you from Dalarö to Stockholm
in less than an hour.
Enjoy Utö’s superb sandy beaches or stretch out
in the sun on the rocks.
ORNÖ
Ornö, the largest island in the southern archipelago,
is is an ideal place to explore on a bike, and as on
most of the larger islands, bikes are available for
hire. The landscape is varied, and features forest,
rocky outcrops and numerous lakes. Stunnträsk, the
deepest lake in all of Stockholm County, is said to
harbour organisms that have flourished here since
the last ice age. Dive in and take a look for yourself!
FJÄRDLÅNG
Fjärdlång is a wonderful place for those who just
want to relax. Marked trails crisscross the island
– be sure to take the one that leads up to the
highest point on the island, 36 meters above sea
level. Fjärdlång boasts picturesque cliffs and
a shallow, child-friendly inlet at Sandvik, adjacent
to the harbour. Kayaks, rowing boats and fishing
equipment are all available for hire.
a trip to Ålö, where you’ll find arguably the nicest b
 each
in the archipelago at Ålö Storsand. From Utö you can
easily take the ferry to Årsta Havsbad and continue to
Stockholm by bus and commuter rail.
RÅNÖ
Rånö has shallow, sandy beaches that are ideal for families with children. There are also plenty of large,
smooth rocks and steep cliffs to dive from. The island is
perfect for exploring on a bike (available for hire) and if
you’d like to stay overnight, the island offers cabin rental, a sauna, a store and a restaurant.
NÅTTARÖ
Nåttarö is like a giant sandbox, and features two of
the finest beaches in the archipelago at Stora Sand
and Nåttarö Skarsand. There’s also a snorkel trail,
where you can learn all about sticklebacks, shrimps,
seaweed and the marine environment of the Baltic Sea.
UTÖ/ÅLÖ
NYNÄSHAMN
There’s a great deal to see on Utö, an island with
a rich history and lots of nice beaches. Utö features
the oldest iron-ore mines in Sweden, and its famous
windmill, over 200 years old, commands a splendid
view of Mysingen Bay. At the heart of the bay lies
the harbour of Gruvbryggan, and in the summer
people can be seen strolling along its jetties, visiting
the tourist office or buying fish and other items
from the small stalls. You can go kayaking, play
minigolf and tennis or hire a bike or moped and take
Either the start of your tour or the end, Nynäshamn is
the hub of the southern archipelago. From Nynäshamn
you can return to Stockholm by commuter train or
continue your archipelago journey even further
southwards. Take Bus 852 to Ankarudden and get on
the boat to Landsort, the southernmost outpost in
the Stockholm archipelago, where Sweden’s oldest
lighthouse guides seafarers through the night-time
waters, 5 flashes every minute.

Lidö is an island of contrasts. The southern part is perfect
for great walks through the beautiful, rural landscape,
kept open by grazing cows and horses. In the north, one
of the archipelago’s oldest virgin forests offers a nature
experience for people who don’t mind roughing it. Kayaks
and rowing boats are available for hire down at the harbour, where you’ll also find a child-friendly beach and
This old quarantine station has become one of the
northern archipelago’s most popular destinations.
The old mortuary has been converted into a highclass restaurant, and if you listen carefully, you’ll hear
the sound of the Åland sea – it’s very close. Proximity
to the outer islands is one reason why so many people
come here to kayak. Kayaks are available for hire but
if you’re not into paddling, you can go on a seal safari,
spend a lazy day fishing or have a swim instead. From
Fejan, you can take the ferry to Räfsnäs and a connecting bus to Norrtälje and Stockholm.

Arholma is the archipelago’s most northerly outpost.
On Arholma the sea is never more than a stone’s

dance floor with a breathtaking view of the sea to
the north. There’s even a nuclear bomb-proof coastal artillery battery, Arholma Nord, a Cold War relic
now converted into a museum. Arholma is one of the
best places in the archipelago to enjoy a nice sunset.

LANDSORT
The round, foldable sign
on the jetty must be in
an upright position if
you want to alert the
ferry captain and ensure
that you are picked up.
At night you will need to
signal with a flashlight.
