Good News…
Disappearing Ink...
By Pastor Ken Studer
If you own a computer and have a printer, you
are constantly running low on ink. It is one of life’s
most annoying problems!
Printers are often sold at or near a retailer’s
cost. Why? Because stores are willing to make
their BIG bucks on the ink they will sell you in the
future.
To the delight of almost everybody, gasoline
prices have recently plummeted to near $3 a gallon. On the other hand, printer ink is now selling
for about $10,000 a gallon. Additionally, paper is
becoming more costly.
Professor Sean Xiao-An Zhang of Jilin University in China has a solution that might just change
the way we use paper and print in the future: enter the "water-jet" printer. The printer uses paper
treated with "water responsive dyes" and replaces
the ink with water. When the water touches
the paper it unlocks the color from the dyes and
disappears when the water dries up after about
24 hours.
In other words, the printed
text is there for a day and then
fades away. Using this method,
a single piece of paper can be
used multiple times for printing
since it's blank again the next
day. The result of this “water jet”
printer and disappearing ink is a
cost that is only 1% of regular
ink-jet printing.
The temptation is to liken this
to how God deals with our sins.
God writes our sins in the
“heavenly books” and then erases them when we repent/
confess.
But that is not Biblically correct. Theologically speaking,
Christ took care of the sin problem at the cross. He forgave all
sin at the cross. The record of
our sins disappeared at the
cross.
This disappearing ink wasn’t
cheap. It cost God His only Son,
Jesus Christ. The Good News is
that when we believe this we become saved. Now, that is really
Good News!
Discussion Series @ 10 AM in the Sanctuary
NOVEMBER SCHEDULE:
In Viewpoints this month we will study the lives of
some of the most famous men in the Old Testament.
We will take a look at how they lived, how well they
served God, and what lessons we can apply to our
own lives. In addition we will take a look at how the
spirit of God is moving in the Islamic part of the world
despite great opposition. Join us each week at 10
AM in the Church Sanctuary for Viewpoints! Jeff
Horne is the discussion leader.
