MONTHLY RUBBER STATISTICS MALAYSIA, SEPTEMBER 2014#
1. PRODUCTION
In September 2014, the total production of natural rubber (NR) was recorded at 60,187 tonnes,
rose 10,242 tonnes (+20.5%) compared to August 2014. However, year-on-year, production
shows a decrease of 16.7 per cent. The biggest contribution of NR was from the smallholding
sector at 90.5 per cent whilst the estate sector only accounted for 9.5 per cent. Smallholding
and estate sector shows an increase in production of 22.0 per cent and 7.7 per cent
respectively as compared to the previous month.

EXPORTS
Exports of Malaysian NR in September 2014 reduced by 0.4 per cent to 54,463 tonnes when
compared with August 2014. Comparison with the same month in 2013 also shows that
exports decreased by 31.6 per cent (25,153 tonnes). Standard Malaysian Rubber (S.M.R.)
contributes 93.0 per cent from the total exports where 49.0 per cent comprised of S.M.R. 20.
NR were mainly exported to People’s Rep. of China (44.2%), followed by Germany (15.4%),
Islamic Rep. of Iran (5.2%), U.S.A. (4.9%), Portugal (3.4%), Brazil (2.7%), Finland (2.2%)
France (2.1%) and Rep. of Korea (1.8%). The total exports to these countries represents more
than half of the overall NR exports.

IMPORTS
In September 2014, imports of NR was registered at 75,036 tonnes. Imports decreased when
compared month-on-month and year-on-year at 3,376 tonnes (-4.3%) and 12,255 tonnes (14.0%) respectively. A total of 36.8 per cent of the overall imports comprised of Latex
Concentrate whereas 34.0 per cent from Standard Rubber.
NR was imported mainly from Thailand at 48.2 per cent and Viet Nam 32.1 per cent. Total
imports from these two countries accounted for 80.3 per cent of the overall NR imports.

DOMESTIC CONSUMPTION
The domestic consumption of NR in September 2014, was 37,662 tonnes. Consumption of NR
dropped 2,631 tonnes (-6.5%) when compared to August 2014. However, year-on-year
comparison shows an increase of 235 tonnes (+0.6%).
The rubber gloves industry was the highest consuming industry of NR at 27,692 tonnes
(73.5%), followed by tyre & tubes (6.8%) and rubber thread (6.4%). The total consumption for
these three industries constituted 86.7 per cent of the overall domestic consumption of NR.
5.
STOCKS
At the end of September 2014, the level of stocks was recorded at 145,465 tonnes, increased
by 4,848 tonnes (+3.4%), compared to the level of stocks held last month. However, the level
of stocks was 22,418 tonnes (-13.4%) lower from a year ago.
6. AVERAGE MONTHLY PRICE PER KILOGRAMME
(Noon Quotations - F.O.B.)
In September 2014, the average monthly price of latex concentrate was recorded at 393.13
sen per kilogramme, dropped by 33.56 sen (-7.9%) from the
previous month and 162.27
sen (-29.2%) when compared to September 2013.
The average monthly price of S.M.R. 20 was recorded at 485.65 sen per kilogramme, dropped
by 37.61 sen (-7.2%) from August 2014 and 291.03 sen (-37.5%) from September 2013.

EMPLOYMENT
The total number of workers engaged in the rubber estates in September 2014 was 12,531
persons, with the number of paid employees totalling 12,527 persons and total salaries &
wages paid amounting to RM16.8 million. The number of paid employees for this month
decreased by 2.0 per cent from the previous month and 0.0 per cent from a year ago.

PRODUCTIVITY
The productivity of NR production on estates was recorded at 141.7 kilogramme per hectare in
September 2014, increased by 11.7 kilogramme per hectare (+9.0%) from the previous month
and 15.7 kilogramme per hectare (+12.5%) from the previous year.
