Enbridge donates $10,000 to the Hiawatha First Nation Fire Services in Partnership with the
Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan Fire Department.
Hiawatha First Nation, Ontario, November 13, 2014 - Enbridge Inc. is proud to support the Hiawatha First
Nation by presenting the Hiawatha First Nation Fire Services with a donation of $10,000 towards the
purchase of new fire equipment. The donation was presented to Hiawatha First Nation Chief Greg Cowie,
Fire Chief Ted Bryan and Hiawatha District Fire Chief Ralph Loucks on November 13, 2014.
“On behalf of the fire services and communities of Hiawatha First Nation and the Township of OtonabeeSouth Monaghan, I would like to thank Enbridge for their generous donation,” said Fire Chief Ted Bryan.
“This program funding will enable us to acquire the much needed equipment and apparatus to expand
services to Hiawatha First Nation and the surrounding community”.
This unique partnership for the provision of fire protection services between the communities of Hiawatha
First Nation and the Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan is a model supported by Enbridge Inc.
Together they provide protection from fire, life-threatening emergencies and dangerous conditions through
education, prevention, rescue, suppression and basic life support services. The Fire Department, with over
90 staff members, serves a population of approximately 8,000 residents.
“We are pleased to support the new fire department in Hiawatha First Nation because they help keep the
community safe and safety is paramount to Enbridge,” said Matthew Jackson, Senior Advisor, Aboriginal
Affairs with Enbridge. “The new equipment will ensure that first responders in Hiawatha have the necessary
fire and medical equipment required to handle any type of emergency situation.”
The Enbridge Safe Community Program provides financial support to first responders and safety driven
organizations, so they can acquire new equipment, obtain professional training and deliver educational
programs. The initiative has provided funding to organizations across North America for over four years.
Through investments in partnerships and human capital, Enbridge supports organizations that contribute to
the economic, environmental and social well-being of communities near its operations.
