Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time
GET READY
The Letters of Paul to the Thessalonians are
among his earliest writings, and are driven by his
belief and the belief of the entire early Christian
community that the return of Christ was imminent. Therefore, to devote time or attention to
anything else was foolish.
As time progressed, this fervor receded a bit.
Today we may wonder, when we hear these readings about the coming end-times, if we should
take them to heart. What should we do when we
hear that the day of the Lord will come upon us
“like a thief at night”? (1 Thessalonians 5:2)
Does this mean we are to stop our long-range
goal setting, get rid of our yearly calendars and
planners, or stop putting money in the college
education fund? Of course not. What it does
mean is that we need to change our lives, living
like children of the light and illuminating the
world around us with the light of the gospel.
Then, on that day, when the details of our daily
living become unimportant, we will be ready to
find our peace and security in Christ Jesus.

¿debemos, o no, dejar nuestra planificación a largo

Parish Ministries
We are so grateful for all
the blessings our God has
given each of us as His
"Masterpieces of creation."
Please continue to
pray for the new parents of
our parish, the 546 unborn children saved from
abortion during the International 40 Days for Life
Fall campaign, & our country, to be governed by
laws that protect our religious freedoms. Pope
Francis said it well with his Day for Life greeting, "Even the weakest and most vulnerable, the
sick, the old, the unborn and the poor, are masterpieces of God's creation, made in his own image,
destined to live forever, and deserving of the utmost reverence and respect." We continue peacefully standing vigil at "A Woman’s Choice of
Jacksonville" 4131 University Blvd., every 2nd
Wednesday of each month 10-11am. A carpool
meets at 9:15am in the church parking lot. Consider joining us. Call Lane @ 823-8887 for more info.
Mark your calendars. St. Gerard lunch and Fashion Show Sat. Dec.6th at the World golf Village at
the Renaissance Hotel; a benefit for the highrisk teens and their babies as they finish High
School at the St. Gerard campus. Tickets are $40.
Contact Lane Campau @ 823-8887 or Donnna
McNary @ 806-2844 by Nov.22nd .
Our Angel Giving Tree will be up the weekend
before Thanksgiving. It is earlier than usual so that
we will have the gifts back for the parents of the
children we are supporting as they try to give their
child a happy Christmas. We do it, for baby Jesus!
