Like that mouthwatering treat on your plate. Or that breathtaking scenery in a new exotic land. The perfect selfie? Just focus on your face and that big, beautiful smile. All amazingly easy with Samsung’s advanced camera focus features. Choose the Right Lens The right lens can make all the right difference. Which is why the NX series lets you interchange your lenses effortlessly to suit your subject. For Selfies: Ultra-Wide Pancake Lens (16mm) Focus in a fraction of a second or Ultra-Wide Prime Lens (9mm) You’re always prepared for that spontaneous photo opportunity, thanks to a Hybrid Auto Focus System that detects your focal point in a heartbeat. By combining Phase Detection and Contrast Detection, it lets you capture razor-sharp photos of precious, fleeting moments like a dynamic jump shot or a quick peck on the cheek. You don’t need extremely long arms or a monopod to fit more into your selfie. Capture more of the beautiful background scenery with Ultra-Wide Pancake Lens (16mm). Or pack more people into your wefie with the even wider Prime Lens (9mm) on the NX mini. For Food Shots: Macro Lens (60mm) Perfect for shooting brighter photos, even in indoor settings with less light. Hungry for a delicious shot of your macarons? Use the lens to zero in on the food while outfocusing the background. And capture it in all its rich, scrumptious glory. Rich images, even in low light The NX series’ APS-C CMOS Sensors deliver rich images in stunning detail, even in low light conditions. Pros will appreciate the high-resolution results while everyone, including you, will get to relive their favourite moments in vivid, true-to-life colours. Samsung APS-C Sensor (23.5mm x x15.7mm, 3:2) Four-Thirds Sensor 1” Sensor 1/2.3” Sensor For Travel Photography: Standard Pancake Lens (30mm) Make sure you have this bright lens (f2.0) with you when visiting cities that never sleep. Its large aperture is just what you need for that dazzling night shot of New York’s Times Square or Tokyo’s Shinjuku. This lens is also great for shooting portraits as its shallow depth of field keeps your subject in focus while giving the background a dreamy, out-of-focus look. STEP 3 Flip and Find Your Best Angles Flip to 30° for Glorious Food Shots Food Taking the perfect picture has never been easier with the NX series’ flip-up display. It gives you amazing degrees of freedom when finding the right angles for the best shots. At this angle, you’ll be able to direct your camera at your food while framing your shot from a comfortable position. Renowned food blogger, Miss Tam Chiak, gives us her tips for capturing that gastronomical shot. Aim directly in front of the face for the most natural look. 30O Or above the face for a slimmer profile. 1 Use of space Negative space is the available, empty space around your subject (in this case, food). Try to use the negative space creatively to evoke emotion and draw focus to the dish. 2 Get close or not? Using a Macro Lens can be helpful when you just want to focus on a single ingredient, for example the single raspberry on a cake. Frame your shot tightly to capture that detail but be careful not to lose the context of the photograph by getting too close. Avoid the double-chin look – never angle your camera from below the face. I like to use backlight as it adds texture and depth to an image and brightens certain food like mint leaves. Do not ever use harsh front lighting such as the on-camera flash which makes the photograph look flat. 180O Flip to 180° for Gorgeous Selfies 120O Find your most flattering angle for your social media profiles Flip to 120° for Epic Travel Photos Selfies Round Face Shapes Angle your chin slightly lower and open your eyes widely to get a cuter look. For a sharper look, tilt your face at a 15° angle. Oval Face Shapes Aim from above at a 15° angle. To soften your facial edges even more, try wrapping your chin or resting it on a hand. Travel Capture your adventures beautifully from different perspectives. For instance, make great architecture look even greater by pointing your camera upwards at a building or structure. For a vast, wider view of a parade or scenery, seek a higher vantage point, like a rooftop or hilltop, and aim your camera downwards. STEP 4 STEP Use the Right Smart Mode 5 The Samsung NX series lets you adjust the optimal colour temperature according to the change in your light source via its Smart mode settings. Which means you’ll be able to create stunning images even in tricky lighting – just like the pros! Simply select the right mode for all the right results. Selfies Switch to Beauty Face mode for that photogenic selfie. Wink Shot mode captures your selfie automatically in seconds. All you have to do? Just smile, and wink at the camera! The camera takes 3 consecutive shots after 2 seconds so you can choose the best one. Capture a Little Fun Selfie Photos To make your photos even more memorable, inject a little spice into your shots. Like dressing up in your most outrageous clothes when hanging out with your friends. Or jazzing up your selfies with fun props like wigs and brightly coloured fabrics. Better yet, get creative with your poses on your travels – like holding the Eiffel Tower in your hand, or holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
