All HCWs will wear hospital supplied scrubs under the PPE, as well as clean, sturdy, fully-enclosed footwear.

Pull your hair back and secure it off your neck and face.
Remove all extra items on your person. This includes, but is not
limited to:
● Jewellery, watches
● Stethoscopes
● ID tags, lanyards
● Pagers, phone, etc.
A Use an alcohol-based hand rub, the preferred
way to clean your hands.
B If your hands look or feel dirty, soap and water
must be used to wash your hands.

A Sit on a chair or stool.
B Fit the leg cover over lower leg and shoe and pull
as high as it will go.
C Tie the tie around your ankle.
Use an alcohol-based hand rub, the preferred way to clean your
hands.
Surgical (Inner) Gloves
Put on surgical gloves.
• They will go under the cuffs of the apron.

Fluid Impervious Gown
Make sure the gown covers from neck to knees and to wrists.
• Tie at the back of neck and waist.
o Buddy may assist with ties.

Apron
Make sure the apron covers from neck to knees and to wrist.
• Insert your thumbs in the loops in the sleeves.
• Tie at the back of the waist.
o Buddy may assist with ties.

Mask or N95 Respirator
A Surgical or Procedural Mask:
• Put ear loops over ears.
• Pinch nose piece to fit bridge of nose.
B N95 Respirator (required for aerosol generating medical
procedures):
• Stretch out elastic bands, cup N95 in one hand and hold to
face.
• Put top elastic on crown of head first, then put bottom elastic
at base of head.
• Test for appropriate fit.

Eye Protection
• Place over eyes.
• Adjust to fit.

Bouffant Hair Cover
• Ensure all hair is covered by bouffant to prevent
hair falling forward.

A Head cover
1. Put on hood.
2. HCW crosses ties at the front. Buddy adjusts the
front, ensuring ties lay flat and ties at back of neck.
B Neck cover
1. Buddy folds a second surgeon’s hood (to use as a
neck cover) so the top of the hood is folded inside.
2. Buddy wraps the hood around front of the neck of
HCW to cover any gaps in PPE, ensuring neck cover
is flat.
3. Buddy ties at the back of the hood.
Face Shield
• Place the face shield over your face.
• Adjust to fit.

Outer Gloves

Inspection
• Put a second pair of gloves (extended cuff nitrile or surgical)
on over the inner gloves.
• Pull gloves over the cuffs of the apron.
Buddy inspects to ensure HCW PPE is secure and all closures
are flat before the HCW enters the room.
