Christmas Concert Priority Booking Forms
Priority booking forms are available to pupils taking part in this year’s Christmas Concert from today. Please remember tickets are issued on a first-come
First served basis.
The closing date for applications if Friday 28th November- if you do not return your form by that date you will not be able to reserve priority tickets.
English Revision Classes
National 5 and Higher English revision classes will begin on tomorrow at 4pm. The National 5 session will be in T1.2 (Mr Bristow’s room) and Higher will be
in T2.3 (Miss Machen’s room) Everyone is welcome.
S1-S6 HE Classes
Pupils in S3 – S6 have been carrying on as normal with HE classes. S1 and S2 are only just embarking on their HE courses. All classes in HE will be asked for
a money contribution (letters to be handed out this week). This will pay for the food that you cook to take home with you.
You are all aware there are new teachers in HE and as such a reminder and tightening up of Health and Safety in the department is now being enforced.
Pupils must;
 Place bags and jackets on trolley/shelves before entering room (bring valuables in to put in valuables tray)
 All Jumpers & Cardigans off – Aprons on at start of period
 Long Hair must be tied back (fringes off face!)
 Wash Hands
 Jewellery off
 Hats must be worn (S3-S6 pupils)
 NO nail polish during practical lessons (S3-S6 pupils)
S3-S6 rules are due to these pupils choosing to follow courses and will experience rules as they would if working in the Hospitality industry.

Human Rights Day (Dare to be different)
As part of human rights week Amnesty International and RRSA are organising give up your rights for a day.
Pupils can choose an article from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights or the Convention on the Rights of the Child (there should be one of these
displayed in every classroom) and take a creative action to show their importance.
Students can gave up their phones for the day, take part in a sponsored silence, be a class slave, wear a white mask to ‘disappear’ and much, much more.
If you are interested in taking part in this event can I please ask you to come to a meeting on Monday lunchtime at 1.30pm in RME 1 (Ms Brannigan’s room)
to get more information etc.

On-line “E” Passports & Website: Children’s University
A reminder to all members who have CU passwords and log-ins (most were provided to pupils back in June), that you can log onto the following website to
see latest CU news, new public learning destinations (outside school activities), talk with other members, create your own avatar and to also add activity
hours electronically:

Please remember to keep taking your passports along to any school activities you do, to get them signed and to record hours completed.

Library Computers
All pupils are reminded that school work takes priority for the library PCs at break and lunch-time as well as class-time. Pupils can book PCs for two out of
class slots per week. Please see Mr Plain to book your interval or lunch-time PC. There should be no more than two pupils to a PC at any-time.
Poetry Corner
The Library now has a dedicated Poetry Corner for display of Scottish Poetry Library posters to match the season/events during the year. Charlotte Smith S5
made an excellent suggestion to provide slips for pupils to express a few lines of poetry to go along the edges of the board. Please collect a Poetry Slip from
Mr Plain.
Pupil Librarians
There are spaces available for Pupil Librarians to help other pupils use the School Library during Interval and Lunch-time. Please see Mr Plain for an
application form.
School Magazine – Winner Announcement
Congratulations to Murron Bland for winning first place in the competition to name our goat mascot. Congratulations also to Naomi Rogers who came in
second.
The goat has been christened “Jerome Spartacus Goat III”.
Murron will have a cameo in the next edition of “The Bleater”. Prizes will be with the winners soon.
Spain Trip – Activities Week
A reminder to pupils that your passport form along with 2 passport photos must be handed in to Mr McFarlane today.
Activities Week - S2 Italy
A reminder that the second payment of £150 is due to be paid on Wednesday 19th November. Please bring payment to M12 and remember that cheques
should be made out to East Lothian Council. If there are any problems with this please speak to Mr Dempster ASAP.

S2&S3 – Amsterdam
A reminder to all pupils going on the Amsterdam trip that the second instalment of £150 is due to be paid tomorrow. Please bring payment to M5 and
remember that cheques should be made out to East Lothian Council. If there are any problems with this please speak to Miss McPhee ASAP.
S4/5/6: Apprenticeship Open Day at the Scottish Parliament
The Scottish Parliament is launching their Apprenticeship Programme which will bring in 20 apprentices over the next 4 years with 11 apprentices in 2015
and the remaining 9 in 2016. The programme is a Scotland wide initiative and is open to anyone aged between 16-24 years old.
Apprenticeships are being offered across a variety of roles in the Parliament including Business Admin, Customer Services, Human Resources, Facilities
Management and IT.
Applications open on Friday 21st November and close at midnight on Sunday 7th December.
They are holding an Open Day at the Scottish Parliament building on Friday 21st November 2014 where young people will have the opportunity to meet
with the staff, find out more about the apprenticeships and ask any questions about the recruitment process. Places will be limited so please register in
advance. If you are interested, please see Mr Flood or your Guidance Teacher for more information.

Fantastic Opportunity for S5 Scientists
Strathclyde University run a Space School for S5 pupils in June of next year. You are hosted for a week and work with other young people on science and
engineering projects. It is all free and funded. Please find out more on the website:

S6 Panto – Band Members
Could all S6 pupils who signed up to play in the band for Alice in Winter Wonderland please note that rehearsals start on Thursday 20th November from 46pm in the Music Department. Thanks, Miss Orr.
