We use to do a drill where he would make us accelerate through the tape (finish line) so we never slowed down. He noticed over the years that many runners would slow just a little when they got close to “finishing” and would sometimes get beat by just that amount or not set a record because they didn’t push that last step. Finishing through the tape is a great statement as we approach the end of the year in business and set ourselves up for a strong start in 2015. 2014 SCA President Bob Battezzato It helps it a couple of ways, one obviously is to just finish strong and the other is to not let up even if you think the race is won. It can set you up for the next year (race) with the mindset of 100% effort all the way through. At the SCA we are “Finishing Through the Tape” for 2014 with several strong Educational Luncheons, our Annual Charity Luncheon and network planning for kicking off 2015 in a big way. • 11/13 Towing Rates, Liens and the California Move Over Law • 12/11 Annual Charitable Donation luncheon continue page 6 4 Sacramento Claims Association News Network • November 2014 Recent SCA Charitable Beneficiaries include: 2 3 CSUSacramento insurance program 4 5 7 8 hope & opportunity for at-risk women with children 9 www.SacramentoClaims.org NOVEMBER 2014 • Volume XX • Number X 2 3 4 5 7 8 9 11 11 13 13 14 14 15 10 Sacramento Blue Star Moms Your 2014 SCA Executive Staff & Board of Directors November Message from 2013-’14 SCA President Bob Battezzato Recent SCA Charitable Beneficiaries People On The Move! After investing years building his successful Concord-based leak detection business, Pipe Pros, Inc., Randy sold the business several years ago, and moved back to his home state of Florida. As that deal ultimately fell apart, Randy decided to reboot his California business, effectively starting over, twenty Randy Agnetti years after he first founded it in 1994. As Owner and President of Pipe Pros, Inc., Randy was very active in the East Bay Adjusters Association, and the Mt. Diablo Property Association through most of the ‘90s. In fact, he was at the forefront of the movement that ultimately merged those two organizations back into one, in 2001. A veteran of the industry, Randy explained to us how he got involved. “I started as a plumber, and realized that what the industry needed was a no-conflict-of-interest reporting service to provide professional and accurate causation services to customers dealing with plumbing leaks,” he said. “I have 30 years in the plumbing industry. I served as president of the East Bay Claims Association for four years during which time the membership doubled,” he added. “Further, I was on the Board of Directors for the Underground Utility and Leak Locators Association (UULLA) for nine years, and on the Board for the Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors Association (PHCC).” Pipe Pros provides the latest in video inspection, leak detection, utility location, ground penetrating radar services, and smoke and odor detection wherever needed throughout Northern California. Randy worked smart, and he worked hard, to build up Pipe Pros back in the day. “My biggest accomplishment has been the building of Pipe Pros from a one truck operation to a six vehicle fleet with eight employees and sales that grew 25% per year,” he shared.continued page 15 “I am looking forward to re-starting Pipe Pros after a five year absence. I expect to make it bigger and better than it was before. “ In his "spare" time, Randy lives his passion. “I love umpiring baseball games, for a variety of leagues,” he stated with his infectious grin. “I was recently selected as an umpire for the Roy Hobbs World Series to be held later this month in Ft. Myers, FL” Randy Agnetti, owner/president of Pipe Pros, Inc., maybe be reached at: (925) 969-9182, or [email protected]. Examination of the physics of the claim made that clear. In another example, a claim where a tree branch fell on the roof of a home and damaged the skylight, just didn’t add up when considering the physics of the fall. The branch would have fallen straight down, not the four feet they claimed, putting it on the skylight. Balentine also instructed investigators, “On Auto claims, match the damage car-to-car like a jigsaw puzzle. You can tell if a car was moving by the damage. Always check to see if photos match the damage.” The October meeting also featured the annual Sacramento Claims Association election of new board members. Four new Board Members were presented to the membership. All four were elected as additions to the standing board: Mathieu Schwartz, of Liberty Mutual Insurance; Jack Corry, owner of Water, Smoke and Mold; Jason Kettlehut, of P.W. Stephens Environmental, Inc.; and Rob Sedgwick, of Restoration Management Company. The October 50/50/Raffle prize of $37.00 was won by Ashley Ramsey, of Duarte Construction. President Bob Battezzato encouraged all to continue supporting the Sacramento Claims Association, and to invite associates, clients, and other interested parties to join the group for the next luncheon, on November 13, 2014. Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones reminded Californians to prepare before the next earthquake hits with a few simple steps that can save your life and help you recover from disaster. "You have the opportunity to prepare for the next disaster today, and make recovering easier," said Commissioner Jones. "In observance of the Great ShakeOut I urge all Californians to make a preparedness plan and practice it. Before the next big one hits, make sure you take a few simple steps to mitigate your risk of injury and loss." Californians know it's not if but when the next earthquake will hit. Even a small or moderate temblor can cause significant damage. The magnitude 6.0 quake that struck Napa on August 24 is a good reminder that residents need to take steps to protect themselves, their loved ones and their belongings by making sure they have the coverage they need and they take simple, inexpensive mitigation steps. Standard homeowners insurance does not provide coverage for earthquake damage. Earthquake insurance must be purchased separately and is typically designed as a catastrophic policy to cover tens of thousands of dollars in structural damage. The majority of quakes are moderate and cause damage and injury when furniture and belongings tumble and break. For about $100, the average person can protect themselves and their family by using Velcro appliance and furniture straps, cabinet latches and quake putty to secure those items that fall and break during a quake. Adding an earthquake strap to a flat screen TV helps prevent injuries from the appliance falling on small children and has the added benefit serving as a theft deterrent.
