Diageo Recognized By Two Connecticut Chapters of the NAACP for Contributions to Community
Development and Economic Opportunity
NORWALK, Conn., November 13, 2014 – Diageo, a global leader in beverage alcohol, has received the
award for Corporate Citizenship from the Norwalk NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of
Colored People) chapter, in recognition for the company’s continued commitment to the community.
Additionally, the Stamford NAACP chapter has awarded Diageo’s Director of Alcohol Policy and
Reputation Management, Dr. Danielle Robinson, the Darwin Davis Corporate Award for the promotion
of responsible drinking and her contributions to the community. The NAACP is the nation’s oldest and
largest nonpartisan civil rights organization.
“The NAACP’s mission to promote inclusion and ensure equal rights for all aligns with Diageo’s core
values and commitment to diversity and inclusion,” said Cherie Sheridan, Director of Diversity and
Inclusion, Diageo North America. “It’s an honor to be recognized by such a notable organization.”
Both awards were presented at the respective NAACP chapters’ 2014 Freedom Fund banquets. Diageo’s
AHEAD (African Heritage Employees at Diageo) Employee Resource Group sponsored a $1000 graduate
student scholarship via the Stamford Chapter, which was awarded to a local graduate student at the
dinner.
“Supportive corporate partners play a vital role in our efforts to eliminate race-based discrimination in
Connecticut, and in this country as a whole,” said Norwalk NAACP President, Darnell Crosland. “Diageo’s
active commitment to diversity and its financial support of opportunity initiatives make it a strong
corporate citizen and ally.”
In addition to being honored by the NAACP, Diageo has received multiple accolades celebrating the
company’s culture of diversity and inclusion, securing spots in recent years on the Great Place to Work
Institute’s “world’s best multinational workplaces” list, Professional Woman’s magazine’s “best of the
best top diversity employers for women” list, and Diversity MBA’s list of “Best places for diverse and
women managers to work.” The company has also been recognized by the Human Rights Campaign as
a “best place to work for LGBT equality” for six years running, and been named a “top 100 company for
working mothers” by Working Mother magazine.
The NAACP seeks to ensure political, educational, social, and economic equality and rights for all people,
and to eliminate race-based discrimination.
