Morrow Caps Career; Pierce, Scott Run Well At NCAAs Jared Morrow’s impact on the OFA Football program will be felt indefinitely. His running, throwing and leadership ability ushered the OFA program into the era of the spread offense. As a threeyear starting quarterback he set the standard of excellence and his two successors to date in Josh Liebstein as a senior and Joey Dalton as a sophomore have followed him as All-Northern Conference performers. Morrow was also a fouryear starting safety and punter and two timne all-state selection. On Saturday Morrow completed his collegiate career at Hartwick University where he was a starting safety and punter for three years. As a senior Morrow served as a co-captain for the Hawks (2-8, 1-7) who struggled against injuries all season. BARTON SOCCER Matt Akins’ career as Barton College’s men’s soccer coach enjoyed a milestone this season. The former Lisbon Central product led the Bulldogs of North Carolina to their first ever NCAA Division II Tournament. On the way to an NCAA berth Akins also led Barton into the national rankings for the first time. Barton senior Erik Pajunk capped a stellar career with the Bulldogs’ first goal ever in NCAA Division II Tournament competition Thursday night five minutes into the game against Wingate. The other Bulldogs roared back with four unanswered goals to claim a 4-1 victory at Limestone College’s Saints Field.Wingate, the South At- lantic Conference regularseason champion, scored the final three goals in the last 25 minutes of the contest to put a lopsided margin on a match that had been 1-1 since the 13th minute. The loss for Barton, the No. 6 seed in the Southeast Regional, ended a special season at 13-7. “I don’t think the score line was indicative of the competitiveness of the game,” Akins said on the college’s website report. “It was unfortunate that it fell the way it did, but I’m very proud that we had this opportunity and that we competed the way we did. We can hold our heads high with our first representation in the NCAA Tournament.” Erik Pajunk’s goal was the ninth of the year for the fourtime all-conference player and the 42nd of his outstanding career. “Erik’s goal was a brilliant shot from distance,” Akins said. “All of our seniors can be proud of the way they went out.” OFA TEAMS LOSE TO STATE FINALISTS The OFA Boys Soccer and Girls Volleyball teams both lost to finalists in their respective state tournaments.
