World Cultural Tours offers “Southern Italy,” a nine-day (Nov. 6-14, 2015) motor coach tour of Sorrento, Naples,
Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast (with an optional tour of the Isle of Capri) and Rome (with an optional tour of the
Vatican) for $2,999 (per person, double occupancy). Included in the fee: roundtrip airfare from Myrtle Beach
(including air taxes up to $600), seven nights’ accommodations, luxury motor coach, professional tour manager,
all breakfasts, welcome and farewell dinners, as well as three additional dinners, sightseeing fees, wine and
cheese tasting. WCT will present the tour in a one-hour preview on Monday, Nov. 17, at Litchfield (1-2 p.m.) and
Myrtle Beach (3-4 p.m.).
The Myrtle Beach Seniors Advisory Committee, of which AARP is a member, in conjunction with the Myrtle
Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, developed this piece especially for seniors to gauge what activities they
enjoy and to learn how better to serve the senior audience. The survey will be available through January 31 so as
to include the input of snowbirds, and afterwards results will be compiled which will be shared when released.

of the “tribe,” a group of politically active, long-haired hippies of the “Age of Aquarius” living a bohemian life in

A Lowcountry Evening at Sunnyside – Gala & Wine Tasting. Murrells Inlet 2020 proudly presents its annual
fundraiser at historic Sunnyside Plantation in Murrells Inlet. Soak in a tranquil natural Southern setting with its
century-old cedars and majestic live oaks draped in Spanish moss. Step back in time as you tour the old
Sunnyside home built circa 1850 by planter Jacob Motte Alston. The one-and-a-half story Greek revival style
house, which is constructed of heart pine with beaded cypress weatherboards, an oval mahogany flying
staircase, and large columns on the front, will be open for viewing. Heavy hors d’oeuvres and a variety of
desserts will be available for tasting, as well as an open bar and an assortment of fine wines and traditional
cocktails. “Band on Fire” provides plenty of music for dancing! The silent auction will feature an exciting array of
local artwork, trips, catered parties and much more. Attire is Lowcountry Casual. The event is rain or shine.
Proceeds benefit Murrells Inlet 2020, a 501c3 community revitalization organization dedicated to making the

Nov. 14-16 – Huntington Beach Tent Camping Outing, jointly hosted by North and South Carolina Sierra Clubs.
Join Sierra members from all over the Carolinas for a weekend of camping and fun at the park! Group campsite
#P-2 has been reserved for our tent camping weekend. This site has plenty room for tent campers, with picnic
tables, a fire ring with benches, and a modern park restroom nearby. There is a large parking lot next to the
camping area. A short boardwalk leads from the parking lot to the beach. There also is a 13-mile paved bike trail
which runs through the park. We will tent camp in our campsite, just pick a place and pitch your personal tent.
Birdwatching is great at the park. If you're not up to overnight camping, please feel free to visit the campsite and
say hello and join campers hiking, biking or just enjoying great conversation. Day admission is $5 for park entry.
You will also need to bring your personal camping gear to the campsite, a short walk from the parking lot. Must
RSVP (limit, 25 campers). Tent camping fee of $10 can be paid to trip organizer upon arrival. A traditional

Winyah Group Sierra SC hosts the Kingston Lake Paddle Outing. Launch from Conway Riverwalk at the sand
landing under the bridge and paddle past historic riverfront and abandoned swing bridge. Explore Kingston Lake
and backwaters. Beautiful moss draped cypress, some of the biggest in the area are along the blue trail. Easy,
calm river paddling conditions, good for beginners and families. No restroom at launch site, please plan
accordingly, we will be on the water about two hours. Land access will be limited, this is an on water outing.
Wildlife encounters will be reduced due to cooler weather, but migratory birds will be around. Chance
encounters with alligators, snakes, various plants and insects, as well as on water related risks. Bring snacks,
water, sunscreen and clothes that can get wet. Bring your own kayak, canoe or special event rental rate at Gator

Nov. 15-16 – First Annual Fall Taste of the MarshWalk – Shuckin’ on the Marsh. Each restaurant will feature live

Station will be set up between Drunken’ Jack’s and Wahoo’s Fish House with buckets available for just $10

Nov. 22 – Homecoming at Art Works in the Litchfield Exchange (14329 Ocean Highway, behind Applewood
House of Pancakes). Join the celebration of the re-opening of Art Works, CLASS Publishing and The Moveable

Nov. 27-30 – Atlantic Stage presents A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, adapted by Kevin D. Ferguson, at
79th Avenue Theatre, Myrtle Beach. A Christmas Carol simply and directly tells the story of the redemption of a
human soul. The play follows the ever-powerful story of Scrooge, a lonely miser, who through the help of spirits
and visions from his past, present and future, finds a second chance to become a loving, generous human being.

15th Annual CCU Holiday Concert at First United Methodist Church in Conway. The 15th installment of the CCU
Holiday Concert will be presented by the CCU Concert and Chamber Choirs, under the direction of Frances E.
Sinclair. Classical pieces will intermingle with familiar seasonal selections and holiday favorites. In addition to the
choral performances, senior voice majors will be featured on holiday solos and several small group selections will

The SC Academy of Authors (SCAA) announces its annual fellowship competitions in poetry and fiction. Winning
authors in each category will receive $1,000 and be invited to the SCAA induction ceremony in Charleston in
April 2015. The winning entries will be published in “Fall Lines,” an annual literary journal published by Muddy
Ford Press in Columbia. The entry deadline is Dec. 1, 2014. Applicants must be full-time South Carolina
residents. Previous winners are eligible after three years. Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but entries that
have been published previously or have been accepted for publication at the time of submission are not eligible.
Submissions in either category must be typed on 8.5 by 11 paper; the author’s name must not appear on the
manuscript. Authors should mail two hard copies of their entries with a separate cover sheet specifying their
name, contact information and submission title(s), plus a $15 application fee payable to SCAA, to the addresses
below. Entry fees help support the SCAA in its mission to preserve and promote South Carolina’s literary legacy.
Entries for the fiction fellowship must be original short stories or excerpts from longer works not exceeding 15

pages. There are no restrictions on content. Applicants may submit only one story or excerpt. Submissions and

Through Dec. 28 – Hurricane Hugo: The Batiks of Leo Twiggs, commemorating the 25th Anniversary of
Hurricane Hugo (1989), at the Franklin G. Burroughs and Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum in Myrtle Beach. This
exhibition features a series of nine batik paintings created by Dr. Leo F. Twiggs the year following Hurricane
Hugo's devastation to South Carolina's lowcountry, his childhood home. Twiggs was born in St. Stephen in 1934.
He graduated from Claflin College in Orangeburg in 1956 and went on to complete his graduate studies at the Art

Through Dec. 28 – Dixie Dugan: A Retrospective at the Franklin G. Burroughs and Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum
in Myrtle Beach. Born in rural Kansas, artist Dixie Dugan has been a Myrtle Beach resident for the past 48 years.
"Art is not my hobby. It is my life," she said recently. This retrospective will contain approximately 65 works
created over the past 40 years. Now in her eighth decade, Dixie Dugan is one of the brightest lights in this areas
