FOSTERING STUDENT SUCCESS
At George Brown, we’re putting the needs of students first. We understand that by
helping individual students achieve their career goals, we’re also helping Toronto
build the skilled workforce it requires. To that end, George Brown is expanding to
accommodate more students and has launched innovative programs and initiatives
that lead to success in the classroom and in the workplace.
DIGITAL LEARNING INITIATIVE
The college’s Digital Learning Initiative is addressing evolving learner expectations, faculty
interest and advancing technologies to create flexible learning opportunities for students.
NEW APPLIED RESEARCH FACILITY
A state-of-the-art applied research facility at our Casa Loma Campus is providing new
space for Canadian innovation in green and smart building. The 9,000-square-foot
facility prepares students to lead in the growing area of sustainable building design, while
creating space for industry to develop and test new products, services and techniques.
FIRST STUDENT RESIDENCE
George Brown College is bringing new life to Toronto’s east waterfront communities.
It began with the 2012 launch of our Waterfront Campus. Now construction is nearly
complete on our first student residence, which will open in 2016 after playing its part in
the Pan Am/Parapan Am Games. Developed in collaboration with Infrastructure Ontario
and Waterfront Toronto, the residence will anchor a vibrant new community in the
Canary District.
NEW SECTOR-SPECIFIC PROGRAMS
This year, the college launched a number of new programs to meet the needs of employers
and our students.
Arts & Design:
Interaction Design and Development aims to meet the predicted demand for professionals
who can not only build an application or website but can also understand human-computer
interaction and the needs of users.
Business:
Business Administration – Project Management delivers the specialized skill set required by
project managers in a large number of sectors.
Construction & Engineering Technology:
Electromechanical Engineering Technology – Building Automation ensures the construction
and property development sectors have access to employees who can optimize building
control systems and smart building technology to ensure buildings operate efficiently.
Interior Design Technology provides a greater emphasis on interior architectural design and
technology, as requested by interior design firms.
Residential Construction Management meets a need identified by the Residential
Construction Council of Ontario, providing specialized training in residential construction
management to graduates of our Construction Engineering Technology program.
HEALTHY CAMPUS INITIATIVE
George Brown College has kickstarted its More Than Me mental health campaign, which
encompasses a number of activities geared towards developing a supportive and inclusive
campus climate. The initiative will increase access to quality resources, reduce stigma,
and help students build and maintain the skills they need to deal with mental illness.
