CLEAN UP CAMPAIGN
A SUCCESS
Chinhoyi University of Technology and Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation(ZBC)’s Power FM conducted a Clean Up Campaign
themed : “Cleaning up all risky behavior” by cleaning the Chinhoyi
Town’s Central Business Centre (CBD) and the environs that lead to
it on Saturday November 8, 2014. The clean-up campaign began earnestly in the morning with a group of almost 200 students split into
three while top notch Power FM disc jockeys were also part of one
group of cleaners that did work around town. Environmental Management Agency (EMA), Municipality of Chinhoyi and Population Services Zimbabwe (PSZ) joined forces with the undergraduates who
were led by the Dean of Students Mr. Gordon Dzoro, some staff
members from his Division and the Student Representative Council
members. Representatives from the Marketing & Public Relations of
the University carried out a road show around the town and residential
suburbs to raise awareness within the neighbourhood during the Clean
- up campaign.
Addressing the students at the Civic Centre, Mr Dzoro said the Cleanup campaign would be an annual event that will continue to have the
support of Power FM and other interested stakeholders. He also said
that the theme was timely and appropriate in that it encouraged the
youths and young adults to desist from irresponsible behavior which
included drunkenness, drug abuse and sexual immorality as they
risked contacting HIV/AIDS.
Mr. Tinashe Chiname from Power FM also addressed the undergraduates and told them that cleanliness is next to Godliness as he implored
students at Universities to be leading lights in helping those who were
not as erudite as them in leading clean lives. Accompanying him were
Kudzi Marudza, Tinashe Chikuse, Davies Mugadza and DJ Squillar.
Mr. Muchingamire represented EMA while Clr Matapuri, the Deputy
Mayor of the Town of Chinhoyi assured the students that they always
have them at heart in issues concerning their off-campus accommodation. The SRC President also addressed the gathering where he said
that he neither belonged “…to any student faction or fraction but to
the students constituency.”
In the afternoon there was a fun day where revelers had braai and a
full bar and catering. Power FM had a live broadcast from the CUT
Sports arena and quite a number of CUT students walked away with tshirts as prizes. The Cleaning Campaign ended with a night bash that
had Zimdance hall artists who included Boyz repaCUT, Midland Music, King Tee, Jada and many more up and coming musicians.

PRE-INDUSTRIAL ATTACHMENT SENSITIZATION SEMINAR HELD
The Chinhoyi University of Technology Life Skills Programmes
Department held a Pre-Industrial Attachment Sensitization Seminar
on Wednesday November 12, 2014 at the Main Lecture Theatre
attended by 2.2 students who will be going on attachment for two
semesters.
The Marketing Projects Officer Mr.Chenjerai Muchenje began the
ball rolling by giving a presentation on Industrial Attachment as a
Marketing Tool which he said he had changed it to “Brand ambassadors of the University”. He challenged all students on attachment
to potray a good image of the University and be good brand ambassadors wherever they would be attached to.
Reverend Mateva who was standing in for the Dean of Students
advised the female students to desist from wearing provocatively
mini-dresses and/or skirts. Speaking in vernacular, the University
Chaplain said,” Kumwe kupfeka kwenyu kusava an indescent assault
to others, yes your rights should not infringe upon the rights of others.”
Mr Machipisa who was standing in for the Dean of Business Sciences and Management presented on the importance of Industrial
attachment which he said it helped the students to get exposed to
real working environment. He challenged attachees to have the right
attitude as this helped them to get the necessary exposure.
Ms.H.Mandibaya and Mr.Chifimbo also gave insightful presentations to the students though they queried why they continued to pay
tuition fees when they were on attachment. The SRC President
however later explained that it was not a doing of the University but
the Central Government has to be engaged with a view to addressing this issue. Amai Spiwe Mukuwapasi should be thanked for being the co-coordinator of the Workshop.

“Please Man Syndrome!”
In Colossians 3 v 23 – 24 we read: “ Whatever you do, work at it
with your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,
since you know that you will receive as an inheritance.” The scripture is rebuking people who are suffering from a sickness called
Please Man Syndrome (PMS). They only do things right when their
husbands, wives, parents, wives, parents, boss, supervisor or pastor
or anyone they want to win favour from. Their hearts are separated
from what they do in church, at work, or in their lives. Actually
they specialize in lip-service only with strong desire to please man.
My prayer for you today is that you may serve God whole heartily
in truth and in spirit and never do things only to please man. Good
day.
THE OBSERVER:
- By THE INSIDER-ON –THEOUTSIDE
It is that time of the year once again when there is the” gnashing of
teeth” especially when we are asked to show how much we have
learnt during the course of the semester, that is examination time.
I’ve seen many a student who tend to be nervous and some tend to
have hypertension. I have seen the amount of work that students put
in a few days before exams. There are no secrets to success. It is the
result of preparation, hard work and learning from failure. Yes, few
minds wear out, most rust out but striving for success without hard
work is like trying to harvest where you haven’t planted. Recipe for
success according to the Insider-on-the-outside: study while others
are sleeping, work while others are loafing, prepare while others are
playing and dream while others are wishing! Success seems to be
connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make
mistakes, but they don’t quit. To all you folks who are hard on them
books, know that the highest result of education is tolerance and the
roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet. As we prepare
for the examinations, let’s remember to pray without ceasing and
ask the Lord to make us remember all the toil of our efforts. In
wishing you the best of luck, don’t be tempted to cheat in the exams

SPORTS-
THE FOOTBALL TECHNOCRATS WINS WITHOUT KICKING A BALL
CUT F.C. got a three nil walkover victory on Saturday
November 11, 2014 when their opponents – Rydings
F.C. failed to turn-up for a Division 2A league match
at CUT Sportsgrounds. They were also awarded three
points in the process and this helped the team to climb
up the ladder on the log standings. However, the CUT
players were not too happy to have the game being
won without kicking the ball because they were raring
to go and their excitement came from playing the
game itself. However, it was a blessing in disguise for
the not so well performing undergraduates team to get
the three points on a silver platter.
NOTICE TO ALL CUT STAFF
The Sewera family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Management and staff for the assistance
rendered during the funeral of the
late Mr Prosper Sewera, husband to
Mrs E.J Sewera who is Administrative
Assistant in the School of Hospitality
and Tourism. The CUT family made
our load lighter. I hope the spirit of
oneness and togetherness will continue to prevail within the University.
May the almighty bless you.
