1. Introduction
Thank you for choosing an A2B Electronics product. We have made every
effort to make you as a customer satisfied with the performance and features
of the product for years to come.
The EFM-100 is a high quality Professional FM radio processor intended for
use in any Cable-TV or SMATV head end. All functions are integrated in an
extremely compact unit that easily can be mounted in different ways.
The EFM-100 has multiple functions. It can be setted as an FM tuner, an
FM amplifier, an FM processor or a FM modulator for external sources.
The EFM-100 can easily be connected to the CATV modulators EVA-200
and EVA-210.
This manual describes the installation and settings of the unit.
A2B Electronics AB offers a 2 years limited warranty on this product.
NOTE! The warranty is not valid for damage caused by incorrect handling
or installation, damage caused by liquids, overvoltage, damage to other
equipment connected to this product etc.

2. Unpacking the unit
EFM-100 is delivered with all necessary software to enable all the
installations. The files are on the included CD and a PC or PALM PDA can be
used as a control unit.

4. Settings with PALM PDA
This section describes how to make a quick installation following the step by step
instructions below. See to that the control software files delivered on the CDROM are loaded into the PALM. For more information on how this is done,
please consult your PALM user manual.
1. Connect the EFM-100 to a DC power supply (the ESP-100 or EPP-100). Then
connect your PALM PDA to the EFM-100 with a PALM Hotsync cable to the
RS-232 serial port on the front of EFM-100.
2. Tap the EFM icon in the A2B Control menu of the PALM.
3. A Welcome menu should appear if your PALM is in contact with the EFM100. Click [Next].

4. The settings window allows you to enable and adjust the various functions of
EFM-100. The Amplifier, the RF output attenuation and the OSD video settings
are all handled via drop down lists, while pop-up windows are shown when
selecting the Tuner or the Modulator.
With the Amplifier enabled you can attenuate the RF out signal (Level) between
0 to -31dB in 1dB steps. NOTE! The RF attenuator is always enabled.
5. The Tuner can be enabled or disabled. When enabled, the audio connectors act
as outputs. The frequency of the Tuner can be adjusted between 76 and 108 MHz
in 50 kHz steps. If needed the Tuner can be set to Mono mode. Make your
choice and click [ OK ].
6. The Modulator can be enabled or disabled and if enabled the output frequency
can be adjusted between 76 and 108 MHz in 50 kHz steps. The output level can
be adjusted from 0dB to -6dB in four steps. NOTE! As shown in the Block
schematic (see page 11) the Modulator output level is also affected by the RF
output attenuator.

It is possible to change from Stereo to Mono Mode if wanted. You can also
attenuate the incoming LF signal (from phono left and right) by 9dB if
necessary. The RDS Name box allows you to send your own RDS info with up
to 8 letters. Leaving the RDS Name field blank disable the RDS transmission.
The preemphasis is setted to 75 µsec as default but can be changed to 50 µsec
or can be set to Disabled. NOTE! 75 µsec shall be used for all normal purposes.
Perform desired settings and click [ OK ]
7. The video OSD output (On Screen Display) can be set to indicate “P1” to
“P7” in the upper right corner on TV sets connected via an RF modulator (as
the EVA-200 or EVA-210). If you select “Black” the screen will be blank. This
function can be used when the EFM-100 is installed in a hotel system. The
OSD output can also be disabled. Do the settings you want and click [ Next ].
8. The settings will be stored automatically when entered, and you should now
have the signal(s) out from the EFM-100 according to the settings you have
made. Click [ Next ] and your setup is completed. Click [ Again ] if you want
to change some settings. If you want to connect your Palm to another E-series
module you first click [ Again ] and then you click [ Exit ].

5. Settings with PC
This section describes how to make a first time installation for PC following the
step by step instructions below. See to that the control software files delivered on
the CD-ROM are installed on your PC. You can also download Control software at
www.a2b.se/support .
Connect the EFM-100 to a DC power supply (the ESP-100 or EPP-100).
Then connect your PC to the EFM-100 with a null modem cable from a serial port
on the PC to the RS-232 port on the EFM-100.
Select the correct COM port and press [OK] and following menu should appear.

Below you find description of the different settings in the main menu. See Block Schematic in next page
1. VIDEO OSD ( TV OSD )
If you connect the Video connector of the EFM-100 to an RF modulator or direct to a
TV set, you can here choose if you want to put a text (P1 to P7) in the signal that will
appear on connected TV sets in the right upper corner of the TV picture or select
“Black” for a blank screen. (For instance when EFM-100 is installed in a hotel system).
2. FM TUNER
Set this to ON (click in the box) to activate the FM tuner. This give you the opportunity
to remodulate the received signal to a different output frequency using the FM
Modulator. You can also use the demodulated LF on the R and L audio connectors for
connection to a RF modulator ( for example EVA-200 or EVA-210). Click in the
frequency box and enter a frequency between 76 and 108 MHz (can be selected in 50 kHz
steps). Click on [ Program Frequency] to make the settings to take effect. You can also
select Mono mode instead of Stereo mode if wanted.
3. FM AMPLIFIER
If you set this to ON (click in the box) the EFM-100 will amplify all signals between
76 and 108 MHz that is received from the FM antenna input.
4. FM MODULATOR
With this function set to ON you can choose output frequency either from a signal
source connected to the R and L audio connectors or choose a different frequency for a
FM signal from the FM Tuner. Click in the frequency box and enter a frequency between
76 and 108 MHz (can be selected in 50 kHz steps). If you connect an external audio
source you can attenuate the incoming signal by 9 dB (Audio Sensitivity).
Preemphasis is possible to change from 75 µsec to 50 µsec or Disable. NOTE! 75 µsec
shall be used for all normal purposes. If needed you can also choose Mono Mode. In the
box for RDS Programme service you can enter up to 8 letters. If you do that you have to
click on [ Program RDS ] to enable the settings. Always press [Program Frequency] to
make the settings to take effect
5. RF OUTPUT LEVEL
This gives you the possibility to attenuate output signal from FM Modulator ( 0 to -6dB ).
6. RF OUTPUT ATTENUATOR
Click on this drop list and you can attenuate the output level from EFM-100 between 0
and -31dB in 1dB steps. This function is always enabled.

6. Installation
The EFM-100 can be installed either stand alone or it can be installed in a base unit
(EBU-100) together with any of our high quality E-series products.
Before connecting power to EFM-100 make sure that all other connections are made.
If a stereo RF-modulator such as the EVA-210 is in use, connect Right and Left audio
outputs to the corresponding inputs on the EVA-210.
Also connect the video source (CVBS) to the video input of the RF-modulator
(EVA-200/210) if Video OSD is used.
Connect power supply and make all necessary settings as described in section 4 and 5.

1. Introduktion
Tack för att ni har valt en A2B Electronics produkt. Denna produkt är
utvecklad för att ni som kund skall vara nöjd med dess prestanda och
funktioner under många år.
EFM-100 är en högkvalitativ professionell FM radio processor avsedd att
användas i alla Kabel-TV och SMATV nät. Alla funktioner är integrerade i
en extremt kompakt enhet.
EFM-100 har flera funktioner och kan användas som en FM-konverter,
som en FM-förstärkare, som en FM-processor eller som en FM-modulator.
EFM-100 kan enkelt anslutas till våra professionella Kabel-TV VSB
modulatorer EVA-200 och EVA-210.
Denna manual innehåller installations och inställningsanvisningar.

2. Uppackning av enheten

4. Inställningar med PALM handdator
Detta avsnitt beskriver hur man gör en steg för steg inställning av EFM-100.
Se till att den på CD medföljande mjukvaran är installerad på din PALM.
För anvisningar om hur detta görs se manualen till din PALM handdator.
1. Anslut EFM-100 till en DC spänningskälla (ESP-100 eller EPP-100).
Anslut därefter din PALM handdator med en PALM Hotsync kabel till
RS-232 kontakten på EFM-100.
2. Klicka på EFM-ikonen under A2B Control menyn på din PALM.
3. En välkomstmeny enligt nedan startar installationen. Klicka på [Next].

4. Installations-fönstret tillåter dig att välja och justera de olika funktionerna hos
EFM-100. Via dropp-lister kan du ställa in Förstärkaren, Utgångs-dämpningen
och OSD-inställningen medans “pop-up” fönster används vid inställningar i
Tuner och Modulator.
Med Förstärkaren aktiverad kan du dämpa utsignalen mellan 0 till -31dB i 1dB
steg. OBS! RF-dämparen alltid inkopplad.
5. Tunerfunktionen kan väljas Av (Disabled) eller På (Enabled). Om Tunerfunktionen är aktiverad kommer LF signal att finnas på de två audio kontakterna.
Tunerns frekvens kan ställas mellan 76 och 108 MHz i 50 kHz steg. Om man så
önskar kan man ställa in Tunern på Mono-ljud istället för Stereo-ljud. Gör dina
val och klicka [ OK ].
6. Modulatorn kan väljas Av (Disabled) eller På (Enabled). Om Modulatorn är
aktiverad kan utgångsfrekvensen ställas in mellan 76 och 108 MHz i 50 kHz steg.
Utgångsnivån från Modulatorn kan väljas mellan 0dB och -6dB I fyra steg. OBS!
Som framgår av Block schemat ( se sidan 11) påverkas Modulatorns utnivå även
av utgångsdämparen (0 till -31dB i 1dB steg)

Man kan välja mellan Stereo- eller Mono-ljud ut. Den inkommande LF-signalen
(Höger o Vänster in) kan dämpas 9dB om så önskas. RDS Name innebär att du
kan sända egen RDS info genom att skriva in ett namn här med max 8st tecken.
Om man lämnar detta fält tomt kommer ingen RDS info att sändas.Preemphasis
är förinställd på 75 µsec men kan ändras till antingen 50 µsec eller till helt
avstängd (Disabled).OBS! För normal användning ska 75µsec användas. Gör
dina val och klicka på [ OK ]
7. OSD funktionen (On Screen Display) kan ställas in för att visa “P1” till “P7”
uppe i det högra hörnet på TV-apparater som anslutits via en RF-modulator
(Ex.vis EVA-200 eller EVA-210). Valet “Black” ger en blank TV-skärm.
Denna funktion kan vara aktuell i t.ex. en hotell-installation. OSD funktionen
kan också stängas av (Disabled). Gör dina inställningar och klicka [ Next ].
8. Alla inställningar som görs med PALM sparas automatiskt när de görs så att
du nu har signal på utgången enligt de inställningar som du har gjort. Klicka på
[ Next ] och du är klar med installationen. Om du vill göra om någon
inställning så ska du klicka på [ Again ] Vill ansluta din PALM till en annan Eserie modul måste du även klicka [ Exit ].
Ta bort anslutningskablen mellan din
PALM och EFM-100 och
installationen är klar!

5. Inställningar med PC
Detta kapitel beskriver hur man gör alla inställningar av EFM-100 med hjälp av en
PC. Se till att filen för kontrollmjukvaran (finns på bifogad CD) till PC finns
nedladdad och installerad på din PC innan du börjar med inställningarna. Kontrollmjukvara kan även laddas ned från www.a2b.se/support .
Anslut EFM-100 till en DC-spänning (ESP-100 eller EPP-100). Anslut sedan din PC
till mottagaren med en s.k. nollmodem kabel från en serieport på din PC till RS-232
porten på EFM-100. Välj korrekt COM port varvid nedanstående meny skall visas på
skärmen.

Nedan finner du hur man gör de olika inställningarna. Se även Block Schema på sidan 11
1. VIDEO OSD ( TV OSD )
Om du ansluter video ut kontakten på EFM-100 till en RF modulator kan du välja att
få ut en text (P1 till P7) uppe i det högra hörnet på anslutna TV-apparater. Väljer du
“Black” blir Tv-skärmen blank. ( Detta är användbart om man t.ex. gör en hotellinstallation).
2. FM TUNER
Med Tuner-funktionen aktiverad kan du välja att antingen använda signalen för att
tillsammans med Modulatorfunktionen omvandla signalen till en annan utfrekvens
eller att använda den demodulerade LF-signalen som återfinns på Höger och Vänster
audiokontakt för att koppla till en RF modulator. (T.ex. EVA-200 eller EVA-210).
Klicka i rutan för Frekvens och skriv in en frekvens mellan 76 och 108 MHz (kan
väljas i 50 kHz steg). Du kan även välja Stereo eller Mono-ljud ut. Klicka alltid på
[ Program Frequency] för att verkställa de val du gjort.
3. FM AMPLIFIER
Om du ställer denna funktion i läge ON kommer EFM-100 att förstärka alla signaler
mellan 76 till 108 MHz som finns på FM antenn-ingången.
4. FM MODULATOR
Med Modulatorn i läge ON kan du välja utsignal antingen från en eventuell audio-källa
som anslutits till de två audio-kontakterna eller från den inbyggda Tunern. Om du
matar in en signal via en extern audiokälla har du möjlighet att dämpa insignalen 9dB
via funktionen “Audio Sensitivity”. Preemphasis kan väljas mellan 75 µsec (standard)
och 50 µsec eller ställas i läge Av (Disabled). OBS! För normal användning ska 75µsec
användas. Du kan även välja Stereo eller Mono-ljud ut. I boxen för RDS Programme
service kan du skriva in upp till 8 tecken. Om du vill använda denna funktion måste du
klicka på [ Program RDS ] för att verkställa ditt val.. Klicka alltid på [ Program
Frequency] för att verkställa de inställningar du har gjort.
5. RF OUTPUT LEVEL
Med denna funktion kan du välja att dämpa utgångs-signalen från Modulatorn
med 0 till -6dB i fyra olika steg.
6. RF OUTPUT ATTENUATOR
Klicka på dropp-listen och du kan välja att dämpa RF ut från EFM-100 med mellan
0 och -31dB i 1dB steg. OBS! Denna funktion gäller både om Förstärkar-funktionen
eller Modulator-funktionen är verksam.

6. Installation
EFM-100 kan installeras antingen som en helt fristående enhet eller så kan den med fördel
också monteras i en basenhet (EBU-100) tillsammans med våra övriga produkter i
E-serien. Innan ni ansluter matningsspänning till enheten tillse att alla övriga anslutningar är
korrekt gjorda.
Om en RF-modulator med stereoingång såsom EVA-210 är tänkt att använda tillsammans
med EFM-100 försäkra Er då om att koppla höger och vänster kanal till motsvarande
ingångar på EVA-210.
Om Video OSD används ska videoutgången anslutas till videoingången på ansluten RFmodulator (EVA-200/210)
Anslut matningsspänning och gör alla nödvändiga inställningar enligt kapitel 4 eller 5.
Installation i basenhet med 10 moduler
och en gemensam nätdel.
