REMEMBRANCE ASSEMBLY
Many thanks to everyone for
the exemplary way in which
you joined the national
Remembrance events this
week, both the 2 minutes
silence and more especially the
Remembrance Assembly on
Monday. I was very proud of
the way you all conducted
yourselves. Special thanks to to Dilara AtasBednarczyk 13M for playing the Last Post and
for her solo at the start of My Love is Like a
Red, Red Rose, which was beautifully sung by
the choir. Congratulations to them and thanks
to the Music staff for arranging this.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK
We were very fortunate to
have the Mental Health
Awareness Pop-Up village
come to QEGS on
Wednesday. I visited twice
during the day and was
very impressed with the way girls were
engaging with the issues and making their
own pledges. It was especially good to see the
understanding developing that we all need to
look after our mental health, just as we do our
physical health AND that there should be no
stigma attached to mental health issues, not
least because so many of the population are

I was also delighted by the
feedback from the team,
about how much they had
enjoyed visiting QEGS. They had only praise
for your behaviour and sensitivity in engaging
with the issues.
A final thank you to Mrs Cooke and Ms
Nocivelli for arranging for this event, and
everyone else who made it possible.
AWARDS FOR DISTINGUISHED WORK
Congratulations to girls who have achieved
Awards this week, in particular to Mia Aarons
and Malithi Fernando in Y9 for excellent
earthquake assessments in Geography and to
Isabella White who has achieved TWO Awards
recently for work in Religious Studies.
6th FORM OPEN EVENING
We were derlighted with the
turn-out at the Open
Evening last night. If you
weren’t able to attend for
any reasons, please see the
office for the prospectus and application
forms. Special thanks to Scarlet Pestell,
Jeronee Jennycloss, 13P and 12R. One of our
speakers was new to the school and it was
great to hear how welcoming she had found
QEGS. We do have a limited number of places
for external applicants, so if you know anyone
who might be interested, please pass on the
word!
ANNIVERSARY OF QUEEN’S VISIT TO
QEGS
Did you know that Monday will be the
anniversary of the Queen’s visit to QEGS on
17 November 1957? It was the first state
school she had ever visited! Thanks to Ms
Pearson for pointing out this interesting fact
about the school’s history.

TECHNOPOP
As a result of the G & T (gifted
and talented) programme,
students from Y8 and Y9 went
to a science fair to study
astronomy. We took 2 trains from High
Barnet Station to Stratford, where the fair
was held. We were each given a bracelet for
the fair saying #technopop.
Once we entered we watched and helped to
make a model comet consisting of dry ice
and sand amongst other ingredients. Then
we were free to move around by ourselves.
We went around in pairs and trios. There
was everything from experiencing landing
on Mars and looking for life through audio to
changing into an astronaut suit There was a
wide variety of things to do, which made the
trip exciting. It had lots of opportunities to
absorb knowledge. It was a truly fun trip
and we learnt more than we thought we
would.

REMEMBRANCE
During this term
Year 9 have been
looking at
Remembrance.
Having researched
different aspects of
the war such as soldiers, evacuees and
women in war, they went on to design a
sweetheart badge. Sweetheart badges were
sent by soldiers from The Front to their
loved ones left at home. Usually badge
designs showed the insignia of the unit the
men served with. The badges were either
made by the men themselves, becoming
part of a genre now known as Trench Art or
were commissioned to a given design.

carried out by a student then we may ask
for them to complete another study journal.
Many thanks for you support with this
process.
NATIONAL TAKEOVER DAY
On Friday
21st
November the
school is
excited to be taking part in the National
Takeover Day whereby children and young
people will be shadowing in various jobs
across the country. Students will have been
told about this in form time this week and
the deadline for entries is Monday 17th
November. If you would like to take part
and have the chance to shadow a member
of staff for the day you just need to write a
letter to Miss Southwell or Ms Piper and
hand it in to the RS Office.
Ms Southwell
During the project Year 9 also wrote letters
