Oranj Peelz-Powerful Citrus Degreaser

Pedro’s original citrus based degreaser that quickly dissolves away tough drivetrain grease and
grime. Low surface tension allows superior penetration allowing the degreaser to remove
contamination from all surfaces of the drivetrain. Oranj Peelz is great for classic "wet
degreasing" paired with our Toothbrush drivetrain brush or in the Pedro’s Chain Machine.
Pro J-Professional Strength Citrus Degreaser

Pro J is a unique degreaser that cuts through the toughest grease, grime, road tar, and dirt with
ease. Pro J's proprietary high viscosity, citrus-based formulation visibly coats drivetrain parts and
stays where you need it most. The concentrated power requires less scrubbing and wastes less
degreaser and the water soluble formula quickly rinses away with water leaving a spotless
drivetrain.

Green Fizz-Conceptrated Foaming Bike Wash
Sizes: 16oz, 1 Liter and 1 Gallon
Green Fizz is an incredible foaming bike wash that uses proprietary surfactants to lift dirt and
grime from the whole bike. The surfactants work quickly on dirt and other contaminants by
lowering the surface tension of the dirt molecules and allowing it to be effortlessly wiped or
rinsed from the bike. Green Fizz's biodegradable solvent-free formula can be safely used on all
parts and materials, including carbon fiber, without washing away grease and lubricants or
damaging delicate parts. The highly concentrated formula can be used straight from the bottle
with a rag, sprayed from the bottle and then rinsed with water, or diluted in a bucket of water
and used with brushes or other cleaning tools.
Bike Lust-Silicone Bike Polish and Cleaner

The original bike polish, Bike Lust uses a proprietary silicone formula to make any bike shine

Designed for dry to mixed conditions. Pedro's Ice Wax 2.0 has been engineered with advanced chemistry
to provide a wet application that uses a unique detergent carrier to help push contaminants from the chain.
Once dry, the wax forms a dry coating on the surfaces of the chain which provides excellent lubrication,
efficiency, and wear protection. As an added bonus, as Ice Wax 2.0 slowly wears off over time, any
contamination on the chain is removed with the wax leaving a cleaner chain.
Go!-Low Viscosity, Wet Chain Lubricant

A low viscosity lubricant that provides superior penetration, wear protection and lubrication under high

Bio Grease is new and improved for 2013. The improved formula is a multi-purpose, NLGI #2, extreme
pressure, biodegradable lithium bicycle grease formulated to have excellent dropping point, water
resistance, and stability over a wide range of temperatures. Bio Grease is also formulated to provide
excellent oxidative stability, corrosion protection, and extreme pressure/anti-wear protection. Bio Grease
is excellent for assembly tasks, great for threads, ensuring accurate torque and protecting against corrosion,

Then and Now: A Brief Pedro’s History _____________________________________________________________
In 1989, roommates Bruce Fina and Andrew Herrick founded the Pedro’s brand around a revolutionary chain lube called “Syn Lube”
developed by Bruce’s tribologist brother a few years earlier. Friends of Bruce and Andrew’s were living and racing mountain bikes in
the Pacific Northwest and couldn’t find a lube that would last an entire race in the muddy conditions The other Teflon based chain
lubes couldn’t handle the mud but Syn Lube quickly became the lube of choice due to its unique combination of synthetic oil, staying
power, and detergent ingredients. Once mountain bikers tried Syn Lube and experienced its performance, and word spread, demand
skyrocketed and the Pedro’s brand, was officially off to the races!
With the mountain bike boom of the 90s, the New England based Pedro’s brand grew quickly over the next six years introducing Syn
Grease, Syn Lube Road, Bio Degreaser, Bike Lust polish, Extra Dry lube, Oranj Peelz degreaser, and a small line of accessories made
from recycled plastics including the Milk levers, Milk cage, and grips. If that wasn’t enough, the brand also launched its famous
grassroots support program, racing service program, and mountain bike festival! The brand’s roots in cycling had been firmly planted
and a cult following ensued. People loved Pedro’s for the customer focus, grassroots support and easy-going nature. Another aspect

Field test results: We’ve used both tool kits to build and repair our test bikes. As far as
quality is concerned, both contain top-notch, shop-grade tools that will last for many years.
But, when it comes to value and the most practical tool selection, the Pedro’s Master Tool Kit
3.0 is far superior to the Park EK-1. The most commonly needed tools to service bikes are
hex wrenches, and the Pedro’s kit gives you several L- and T-handle options. Park provides
you with a folding hex wrench set that almost seems like an afterthought. Where is their

Cyclo Tool Shadow Board & Tools
If you value order in your workshop, the Shadow Board displays 80 high
quality tools for removing and adjusting just about everything: files,

Supplied in a sturdy box with lift out top compartment and removable steel tray, this has
a selection of well-considered tools. Long L-shaped ball-ended hex keys from 1.510mm and a single T25 Torx key will deal with most bike tasks, the chain tool is
adjustable with a spare pin, there’s a chain whip, lockring and bottom bracket tools,
cable cutters and three good spoke keys.
A pair of open spanners fit 8/10 and 12/14mm, but we’d prefer some combi spanners
including 9mm and better screwdrivers. Extras include a chain-cleaner, disc pad

X-Tools Bike Tool Kit
This is a neat and, with the exception of cable cutters, comprehensive set. There are some economies of scale to get
everything into such a small package, like the screwdriver, which is double ended. But on another scale
completely, this kit has the largest tyre levers we’ve ever seen – even the most stubborn rubber must yield to them.
There’s a puncture repair set included, and the best extra is a cassette tool with an engaging pin.
The only element that jars is the storage of the basic Allen keys and small screwdriver. These are stashed in
recesses below the larger tools, which makes them look like late additions. But that’s a very small quibble when
you get such a lot of functional content for your money. And because the Allen keys don’t have their own custom
slots you can upgrade them as and when you can afford to.


PRO Professional Hardcase
PRO’s Professional Hardcase comes laid out in a clamshell plastic case with snap-in slots. Pro
doesn’t supply conventional spanners and screwdrivers, assuming you have these already, but the
bike tools are great to use. The bottom bracket, cassette lockring and crank removal tools all have
comfy rubber handles, as do the chain whip, cable cutters, pedal and cone spanners.
The ball-ended hex keys are functionally excellent but their circular holder is quite tight. A Y-tool
has T25, T30 and T40 Torx keys, and the double-ended spoke wrench with five interchangeable tips
splits in half for easier use. Good chain and chainring bolt tools round off a high quality kit.



PRO Toolbox
This hard case tool kit from Shimano offshoot PRO doesn’t have the same quantity of tools as the highest scoring
sets in this round-up, but those that it does have are of a high quality – as reflected in the price. It hits nine out of
10 on our wishlist, with the missing screwdriver set being an add-on that isn’t too painful on the wallet. The beefy
handles make it easy to get a good grip, and we also like the little graphic that shows exactly what each item does.
There are both internal and external bottom bracket tools, as well as spoke key extras – a useful addition, although
truing wheels is a specialist skill that won’t be part of every home mechanic’s skill set. All in all, this is a welldesigned and well considered buy. It’s concise in the selection of tools but hits almost all your likely mechanical
needs.


Travel choice: Lezyne Port-A-Shop
The Port-A-Shop isn’t really a home tool kit but rather, as the name would suggest, a portable travel set. The neat
case, which is organisational heaven, houses three multi-tools containing Allen keys and Torx wrenches, plus a
screwdriver/pedal hex mix. With the right tools to complete just five of our nominated tasks, on its own it wouldn’t
be enough for a complete home workshop. But the mix of key tools plus chain tool and tyre levers is enough to
complete the majority of fettling jobs.
The multi-tools go beyond what we’d expect in terms of functionality because of the quality of the manufacturing.
The one-piece machined bodies provide rock solid stability, and the amount of torque you can apply is fantastic.
This is workshop quality in multi-tool form. One especially good extra is a wedge for separating brake pads; it’s a
feature that defines this set for us. For definitive home workshop use we can’t score the Port-A-Shop as highly as
we’d like, but it’s perhaps the ultimate travel companion.



Quality bike tools - a comparison. Park vs. Pedro’s
As far as bike tools go, Park are pretty well the best there is. Sure Shimano makes some fine and tidy implements of destruction (their wooden
handled chain breaker is too nice to actually use), but Park has always held the cards. Their familiar blue handled weaponry and drool worthy work
stands have always had a special place in my heart. But there is a down side; their products aren't without a price penalty. So how do the cheaper
tools fair up against the Park stuff?
Enter Pedro’s - their showcase is nearly identical to Park as far as range goes, and they come in a healthy margin below the Big Blue at the checkout.
But is the quality there?
To answer this enigma, I took a representative tool from both showcases and tested them head to head under laboratory conditions. No expense was
spared, and I tried to maintain an objective outlook to the testing. Here is what I found...
The Contenders
Initial impressions? Well the Park certainly has a lot going for it. A wide, sturdy grip for ham-fisted bottle opening and stainless steel construction
leaves the spindly Pedro’s with its corrosion inviting mild steel lagging behind from the outset.
The Road test
First impressions aside, how do they handle the nitty-gritty? Both tools fell to hand as hoped and required no extensive operation manual for any user
with some experience in this field. The Park tool had a wider bite and felt a tad more secure on its intended target than the Pedro’s unit. That aside,
both tools didn't struggle in the slightest over the course of our test.
Mission accomplished!
The verdict....
The Park tool gets the thumbs up from this reviewer. It's sturdy and corrosion resistant stainless construction certainly merits the price difference
between the two. The Pedro’s is let down by its sub-par implementation of mild steel and it's narrower handle.
However, the Pedro’s is certainly up there for the budget conscious mechanic/tool operator. It is more than $2 cheaper than its rival, and the thinner
handle may be preferable for underage drinkers and downhillers crippled by arm pump.
As weight weenies don't need bottle openers, I haven't weighed the two but I suspect the Pedro’s unit would be the winner in that regard.
