Welcome to the 10th Annual
In Sandwich
There’s nothing like a town that fully embraces what makes the Holiday season special
- a town wide gathering, Community Caroling, Christmas Tree lighting, Holiday Home
Tours, even a Holiday Cookie Stroll. What can be better than all that?
Sandwich is the place to be for Holly Days 2014 and we have a lot of returning family
events as well as a few new ones to kick off this year.
The Shop Small Saturday and town wide Cookie Stroll start it off on
Saturday, November 29th. While it’s nice to think of supporting local businesses on that
Saturday, that is something we need to focus on doing all year long.
Thanks to the Sandwich Public Library and the Glass Town Cultural District,
the Lighting of the Littlest Christmas Tree will take place on
Sunday, November 30 at 5 pm on Shawme Pond.
The Community Carol Sing will take place on Friday, December 5th at 7 pm at the
First Church of Christ and one, as a newcomer, I am looking forward to most.
The Home Tour, thanks to Bev Comeau, is alive and well this year, featuring a number of
great homes to be seen on Sunday, December 7th. On that day also - a first, courtesy of the
Glass Town Cultural District, Cape Cod Chorale’s “Mostly Dickens Carolers” Quartet will
be singing Christmas Carols and entertaining downtown shoppers and business owners
from 1 pm to 4 pm. Talk about promoting shopping locally!
Finally, I want to thank all of the Holly Days volunteers, especially Kirby Holmes of
Eastern Bank and Donna Kutil of Scenic Roots who helped to keep this going
because they knew it was that special.
So plan to join us for some or all of the Holly Days events.
It’s time to be thankful for the year we’ve had, look forward to what next year may bring
and appreciate the friends, family and town that make us who we are.

A former microbiologist, when she retired to the Cape she began a pleasurable new career

GIANT
Light Sculptures
Twinkling holiday lights have become a tradition to brighten a New England Winter.
Holly Days in Sandwich, a program of the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce is full of
town wide traditions highlighting our community. And our town is the birthplace and
home of a unique family of GIANT light sculptures that appears for a short time each
year, with an ever growing list of locations to see them.
The first GIANT was born in 1998 and stood alone in what has become GIANT Headquarters - East Sandwich (where most GIANTS live). He is Moto-San the Glassblower
who stands as tall as the Glass Studio building where he is displayed roadside, with
hundreds of lights covering his steel rebar skeleton.
There will be at least 5 new GIANTS this 2014 - 15 season bringing the total to well
over 40 GIANTS displayed for your viewing pleasure here in Sandwich. Some locations* have more than one. Some wear their lights in the same way each year. Others
have variations. But they all share something in common, they are only viewable for a
limited period of time each year, shining brightly in the dark of winter.
*The map in the center of this booklet (pages 18-19) indicates the GIANT locations
in Sandwich confirmed at time of printing. The exclusive, complete “Official Map of
GIANTS” with full titles & locations is available free of charge to customers at The
Bee~Hive Tavern on Route 6A in East Sandwich beginning the Friday after Thanksgiving (while supplies last).

2014 Seahorse Ornament
Seahorses are a truly unique creature, and not just because
of their unusual equine shape. Unlike most other fish, some
species are monogamous and mate for life. Rarer still, they
are among the only animal species on Earth in which the
