Center for Civilians in Conflict Welcomes Akwasi Aidoo to Board of Directors Press Release | November 10, 2014 WASHINGTON, DC—Akwasi Aidoo, the founding Executive Director of TrustAfrica, will join the Center for Civilians in Conflict’s Board of Directors, the Center announced today. Aidoo, whose term began November 1, brings extensive experience acquired as past head of the International Development Research Centre’s health and equity program for West and Central Africa, head of the Ford Foundation’s offices in Senegal and Nigeria, and director of the Ford Foundation’s Special Initiative for Africa. Over the past decade, the Center for Civilians in Conflict has pressed military actors to track, investigate, and make amends for the civilian harm they cause, most notably in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, Somalia, Mali, and the Central African Republic. “Akwasi’s expertise is an invaluable asset to the board as we strengthen and expand the Center’s work to protect civilians, particularly as we develop our presence in Africa,” said Anil Soni, chair of the Center’s Board. Aidoo, who holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Connecticut, currently chairs the Boards of the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA), the Africa Regional Board of the Open Society Foundations, and the Fund for Global Human Rights.
