ASHLEY FARROW’S VALIANT S SERIES
Ardrossan was busy with R & S Valiants during November when the R &S Club had a weekend event in the town.
Ashley Farrow and Margaret Edwards brought over their nicely detailed “S” and parked it in the editor’s home, perhaps getting the
neighbours thinking he had bought another car - and not a British one!

PRESIDENTS PRATTLE
LETTER IN TO THE EDITOR -
We are back, not just from our holiday, but from the
Tanunda Campout, where it was fun, fun, fun followed
by more of the same. Everybody enjoyed the location,
weather and especially Kegel Bowling at the
Showground.
Now at the December Meeting, Ma (alias Shirley) Rose
is giving Pa (Don) Rose a birthday fling at the club. In
order to cater for both a meeting and fun eating, the
meeting will start at 7.30pm and be short, sharp and
informative. Please be there in order to enjoy
Christmas, Don Rose’s 90th Birthday and me, to wish
you all the Best of the Season’s Greetings.
For all those that are a bit off colour, get well and we’ll
see you soon at an event or meeting.
Till we meet again- Good Health, SAFE Motoring and
Good Cheer.
Yours in Service and Motoring.
Stansbury 7th November
Dear Mike & Mary
A few words which might be put in the magazine.
We would sincerely like to thank all those who gave advice on the
do’s and don’ts on how to start a motor vehicle,.viz our Holden
Rodeo at the Tanunda Campout
Great thanks to Mike, Trevor and all concerned about our mishap.
Not forgetting the RAA driver, the tow truck driver and the
mechanics who got us up going again.
Ron & Joyce Anderson
Thanks Ron. I understand the new starter motor did not come
cheap. However, when the tow truck took you and the vehicle off to
the auto electricians, we had to keep an eye on Joyce! She was all
for going into Tanunda and spending up on your credit card.
Trevor Clerke
However, we talked her into having a bit of a party in the caravan
until you got back. So when we called you throughout the day, we

I have been wrestling with an octopus cum snake beast this weekbetter known as the wiring loom. The application of the PPR
Chassis Coat paint looks good- not too shiny, but also very hard.
After some setbacks, I was pleased to get a call from Richard Duns
regarding the gearbox which was being checked out. When
someone says, “ Have you seen inside this gearbox?” you start to
worry. However, Richard was just surprised on the herring bone
gear arrangement, plus the components looked to have little wear.
NARC’s President Moranne Coombs, members, friends and guests.
Mary and I were most flattered to join this very friendly get together.
Over the years, MAPS and NARC members have enjoyed joint and
invitation events. Moranne has certainly made her positive mark in
the NARC club, both in the parent group and the Kapunda Chapter.
One hard job has been covering the firewall in an appropriate
material to match a rubberised felt coating. I managed to get some
from the UK Alvis parts supplier, but a similar material is available
for MGB door panels. My stainless steel exhaust arrived from the
UK, supplied by P.D. Gough. Due to the length of the tailpipes they
cut these in half and finished the cut ends so as to allow simple
reassembly. Engine work is still underway and looks promising.
However, all this work with several cars to look after takes time,
money and space. Therefore, some hard decisions will be made
soon as to what goes and what stays. We are very happy with the
TR4A, plus the original Alvis is a car we could not replace. That NARC Kapunda Chapter President Robert Parker and NARC

BRONTE’S TAKE ON THE TANUNDA CAMPOUT WEEKEND
Ich Bin Ein Barossan.
It was back to our ancestral roots for a few of us from MAPS. with some
German blood, like the (nee) Frosts, (nee) Curzners and Klingbergs . Who
along with the other 40 plus members and guests who enjoyed the well
organized activities such as Maggies Beers delicacies, Kegel 9 pin bowling
and BBQ at the park. It was delightful, delicious – de-lovely. Our campsite
at the Tanunda Caravan park was in proximity with all our cabins and
caravans, this made socializing more convenient.
The four quondong pies that Shirley Rose rustled up for all our sweets on
Saturday night was equal to any of Maggie Beers products , and her prize
card game she conducted was good value also.
Bad things usually go in threes but only two break downs occurred--Bernard and Barbara’s Bentley had a flat battery and poor Ron Andersons
Jackaroo's starter motor would not engage, hence Kaput!
Our Fuhrer ( leader ) and weekend tour guide Trevor did his usual good
job at announcing the guidance details to keep the group informed of the
itinerary.
An odd incident happened to me or did I dream it? A nightmare all the
same!. I was awoken from a sound sleep by a loud knock on my cabin
door at about 10pm on Saturday night. I jumped out of bed in my usual
night attire—sox & jocks ,expecting to let in who I thought to be Michele
from her solo spree with the other revellers from the club.
To my shock and horror I was confronted by two gothic Monks with
pitchforks and torches threatening me at the door step! I don’t know why
but they were as surprized as I was, one seemed to be doubled up in
agony, or laughter, I’m not sure.
The next morning as the sun rose over Kaiser Stuhl mountain we set off
for home wishing Auf Wiedersehen ( see- ya later) to the Schon (beautiful )
valley of Shiraz wine and gut Freundschaft ( good friendship ).
Bronte.
NOW WHAT REALL HAPPENED!
alley , 127 feet in length and a choice of balls to hopefully strike the nine
pins. Only Dick Penhall managed a clean sweep, with Bronte in second
place. Jan Mills won the ladies class and was third overall. Thank you to
the Kegel Club for allowing us to enjoy such a good time.
Onwards and upwards to the caravan park where the Hunters had arrived
from Nildottie, complete with Holden and vintage caravan. It was time for
throwing the horseshoe and reeling in the snakes. Dick P won the
horseshoes, with few others getting too near the mark. On the reeling in
snakes, I was lucky to win, but as there were questions as to one reel
being better than other, I offered to have a rerun with the reels swapped. I
still won, but there were questionable remarks about how I came to have
rapid hand movement. I’ve no idea what they were getting at- must be my
piano playing.
For Saturday tea, we had the full use of the camp kitchen and canteen
area, a great benefit on such events. Shirley Rose kept us sweet with her
pies and her prize games, A fine night allowed us to sit outside, but when
Graham Klingberg got cold and donned a woollen coat cum blanket
courtesy of Trevor Clerke, I thought I’d follow suit. Meanwhile Dick Penhall
and Alex Anderson show they were tough by standing around in shorts,
probably to impress a lady in a nearby cabin. Talked revolved around
possums going up their legs.
As Graham and I looked like Friar Tuck and Little John, we though we’d
give Bronte a look at a bit of English folk history. Bronte had retired to bed
with a good book, probably a German phrase book, or a biography on a
local Lutheran. So, his wife Michele gave her secret knock and hid when
the door to Bronte’s cabin was opened.
Full frontal Bronte- T shirt and budgie smugglers. Up went the call from the
spectators, “His legs look like Robin Hood’s bow!” Well we all fell about
laughing and the night got worse after that. - I’ll say no more.
A great turnout for this weekend, with several staying over extra days. The
Clerkes and Haywoods brought their classic Adelma caravans and these

will not include such a stop in future weekends.
Hard luck story of the first day was the Knope’s Bentley having a flat
battery, but with the help of some jump leads and the loan of a charger
from the ever friendly Tanunda Caravan Park staff, all was fixed by
Saturday. Thank you Neville.
The Osbornes and the Sewells headed off to the Heritage Garden at
Sevenhill for a most enjoyable day. Look at visiting that beautiful place on
next year’s open day. I was lucky to get a ride in Kevin and Eileen
Draper’s lovely Model A Ford- most enjoyable.
Friday night’s meal was at The Vine, Nuriootpa. On arrival, there was a
sound test taking place for the band which to start playing 3 hours later.
After a short time of 150 decibel background noise and attempts to order
our meals by sign language, we got together in the Sports Bar.
We stayed on at Tanunda until the Wednesday, taking in the area and a
good meal at the Tanunda Club, an excellent venue for a meal. Ron
Anderson was glad to have the RAA service to the Holden starter fixed.
Just a couple of points- motoring without RAA cover, in my opinion is
asking for trouble. Also when you need RAA help, call the RAA helpline,
not the local contractor’s number, as they will not respond unless the call is
processed by the RAA call centre.
Saturday was a bright start- new battery on the Bentley and then off to
Maggie Beer’s business where we all indulged in tasting lots of unusual
delicacies and drinking coffee. Top marks to Maggie Beer’s business and
staff as they looked after us really well, allowing us the run of the kitchen.
( See photos!)
For those who needed lunch, Tanunda offers a great range of food, with
the Tanunda Bakery and Tanunda Club being two great examples. We
chatted with a knitting group in the former, than I nearly bought a Toyota
Prado at the dealership next door.
The afternoon session involved some games, starting with the Tanunda
Kegel Club. What a great find by John Mills. One long wooden planked
