RA10 Utilization driven Layout Fabricio Brollo CAB/CNEA [email protected] Néstor De Lorenzo INVAP [email protected] The RA10 Site RA10 Site Layout “dirty” “clean” Auxiliary Building Reactor Building Neutron Guides Building Service Building Personnel Goods Reactor Building Levels Level +17 Level +13 Level +8 Level +4 Level +0 Level -6 Level -8.8 Utilization Areas a) Beam utilization b) Radioisotope production c) Irradiation loop and In-Core irradiation positions d) Neutron activation analysis e) Silicon ingots irradiation Beam Utilization - Distributed between Reactor and Neutron Guides Buildings - Independence from reactor process - Independent access for staff and equipment Radioisotope Production - Alternative paths are available - Handling times reduced - Staff exposures minimized Radioisotope Production (cont.) Irradiation loop and In-Core irradiation positions - Underwater pool accesses - Isolated premises - Handling of abnormal scenarios - Underwater connection with a dedicated hot cell Neutron activation analysis - Dedicated lab containing hot cells and radiochemical hoods - Lab access featuring monitoring equipment - Adjacent Cold Lab Silicon ingots irradiation - Active silicon ingots managed underwater - Dedicated dispatching area - Large storage space Conclusions • • • The current layout of the RA10 balances in a very efficient manner the operational and utilization requirements. The circulation of products and personnel considered in the layout minimizes the crossroads and mixed zones. A continuous consultation process with the future users´ representatives demonstrated to be very useful to understand their requirements and to implement early actions over the layout of the facilities.
