Proudly celebrating our 90th Anniversary!
A Message From Our President...
Dear Colleagues,
I am excited to begin this new school year, as the weeks ahead bring us closer to the celebration of our profession
at the 77th Annual NYS AHPERD Conference! We will be gathering at the Turning Stone Convention Center on
November 19th – 22nd to celebrate our 90th Anniversary as a professional association!
This message provides me the opportunity to refocus on our conference theme: PRIDE, PASSION & PARTNERSHIPS
and to review, renew, refresh, recover, restore, reassess and re-dedicate ourselves to our students and the year
ahead. In my previous message, I shared my definition for PRIDE and PASSION. As we embark on the challenges
of a new school year, I want to address the third component of my theme, PARTNERSHIPS.
As we become immersed in the rhythm of a new school year, it easy to focus solely on our daily responsibilities and the ongoing need
to respond to all of our stakeholders (students, athletes, administrators, parents, colleagues). This happens to many of us because we
are cloistered in our classrooms and gymnasiums working individually vs. as part of a team. I want to remind you how important it is to
create and nurture NETWORKS and PARTNERSHIPS with our colleagues within our school communities and outside of school, across
our zones, our districts and the nation.
Having been in the business of education for over 50 years, I can draw a direct correlation from the NETWORKS and PARTNERSHIPS I
have established throughout my career to any of my successes. I am confident these relationships have allowed me to make a valuable
contribution to our profession. Whether you are a master teacher or a future professional - build your NETWORKS and PARTNERSHIPS!
Which of these potential partners will you commit to reaching out to throughout this school year to promote
your program with PRIDE and PASSION - parents, faculty, school nurses & physicians, health care individuals and
facilities, athletic trainers, community leaders, organizations, recreation leaders, community businesses, colleges
and universities?
Remind yourself each day how important and amazing you are. There are students in our classrooms and
gymnasiums who need you today, so you can influence their tomorrow. Give each of your students the very best
you’ve got! Make this your most memorable year ever!
With PRIDE and PASSION and in PARTNERSHIP, I am your grateful president.

10th Annual Ron Feingold Lecture Series
As a way of celebrating our 90
NYS AHPERD Anniversary, this year’s 10th Annual
Dr. Ron Feingold Lecture Series will shine a spotlight on significant events throughout
our history.
th
Dr. Feingold has asked three of our NYS AHPERD past presidents, Dr. Mara Manson,
Tom Howard and Dr. Jack Baker, to present this historical retrospective.
We have been gifted with a history of extraordinary leaders; leaders who throughout
the years have given generously of their time, talents and their enthusiasm. Our
visionary leaders have, at times, overcome adversity and persevered to pass on to
us a strong and secure association.
Join us for this once in a lifetime presentation and help us celebrate NYS AHPERD
and acknowledge those who have shaped our association. This
will be a time of refection, recognition, gratitude and a time to set our sights on our
hopes for the future…
“When we build, let us think that we build forever. Let it not be for present delight nor
for our use alone. Let it be such work as our descendants will look upon with praise and
