PGS Welcomes Tamara Dawson, Newest Member of Our Team
It is our pleasure to welcome Tamara Dawson to our PGS Team. Tamara has actually been at SNU
since 2005 and has worked in several capacities on campus. She began her journey with SNU at the
Computer Science/Network Engineering Department later she worked as a Graduate Instructional
Designer in the Online Resource Center, and most recently she has taken on the role as the Program
Director for the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Degree-Completion Program with
Professional and Graduate Studies. It will be with her leadership that the Online BA program will be
launched in March 2015!
Tamara has earned a Bachelor's degree in Marketing and a Master's degree in Management, both from
SNU. In 2012, she decided to pursue a doctoratoral degree in Educational Technology from Northcentral University. She is currently working on her dissertation in Online Learning. On a personal
note, she has been married to her husband, John, for 27 years, and they have two children, Zachary
and Madeline.

Dr. Jane Humphries, Guest Speaker, Fall 2014 Corporate Adjunct Faculty Meeting
Engaging Adult Learners
Dr. Jane Humphries has had many years of experience in the field of human development and early childhood education. A known
professional in Oklahoma, she has served as a child care director of an NAEYC® accredited program, consultant, child and parenting specialist, adjunct instructor, researcher, program administrator of government programs supporting children in the state of Oklahoma, and author of articles featured in Child Care Information Exchange®. Dr. Jane is a big-believer in hands-on and interactive
learning for adults. She also prides herself in providing practical ideas that can be easily implemented when working or caring for
children in a group or individual settings as well as helping those in leadership positions striving to provide quality early childhood
environments. Over the many years that she has presented, participants have commented on the interactive, entertaining and fun
learning environment she creates!
As the inventor of the Fiddle Focus™ products (patent-pending), the inspiration came from years of work with children, discussions
and brain-storming with parents and teachers, and years of observations of her own child who was a "mover and talker". She also
grew up in a household with a mom and dad who are incredibly talented and creative. It was her 80 year-old-mom that sewed the
first proto-types as each creation was put together! Dr. Jane is determined to keep the items for sale in the Fiddle Focus™
Store as "Made in the USA" and is very proud that the products are currently being "Made in Oklahoma" by a family owned business.
Some of Dr. Jane's favorite activities include consulting, writing, community training and teaching in the higher education community. Dr. Jane continues to provide adjunct services (mainly online) at the graduate and undergraduate level at National Louis University, the University of Central Oklahoma and Southern Nazarene University. She has earned undergraduate degrees in Child Development from Oklahoma City Community College, Family and Child Development from the University of Central Oklahoma, a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education from Oklahoma City University, and a doctoral degree in Occupational and Adult Education from Oklahoma State University. She is also a Certified Child and Parenting Specialist through the Oklahoma Family Resource
Coalition. Dr. Jane lives in Oklahoma with her husband Mike and her son, Michael, who is a Speech-Language Pathology major at
the University of Central Oklahoma.

UPDATE: Library Renovations: What to Expect and Why

This semester the library will be renovated to include a coffee shop, a more accessible Center for Student Success, and new furnishings to better adapt to the wants and needs of all the students at SNU.

The School of Professional Studies is offering a four (4) hour session designed to assist students with a current writing assignment. Weekday workshops are from 6-10pm and Saturday workshops are from 9am-1pm. The sessions include editing assistance, formatting tips, and support with using the computer to aid in editing papers. SNU Emergency Notification System
SNU's Emergency Notification System (SNU Alert!), is provided through Connect-Ed. This system allows us to send important
messages via voice, text, and email to multiple points of contact including phone numbers (cell and land line) and email addresses
provided by each participant.
This system is dedicated to situations impacting university operations (such as winter weather that closes campus)
or emergency situations where action is required (such as tornado warnings and direct threats to our campus community). It is essential that you clearly indicate your primary campus location when signing-up for SNU Alert! since it is location sensitive when
notifications are sent. Please select your campus location as either Bethany/OKC or Tulsa.
If you have not signed up for the SNU Alert! system, we encourage you to do so today. In order to sign-up or to make any adjustments to your contact information for SNU Alert!, go to My.SNU.edu - and click on My Stuff and then select Emergency Notification System (SNU Alert!).

Something New! Bethany Campus Temporary
Handicap Parking Permit
If you have injured yourself, or had surgery that limits your mobility, we have designed a new "temporary
handicap parking permit" for students and employees on campus. This is not
valid at any other location. We conducted research among other campuses and
found we can issue temporary handicap mirror hanging permits for our private
parking lots. The following rules apply to receive a temporary permit from SNU
Security:
a) Must not be able to walk 200 feet without stopping to rest.
b) Cannot walk without assistance from a brace, cane, crutch, or wheelchair.
c) Restricted to such an extent that the person’s forced respiratory volume for one
liter or the arterial oxygen tension is less than 60 mm/hg on room air, at rest, or
must use portable oxygen.
d) Has functional limitations which are classified in severity as class 3 or 4, as
said by the American Heart Association.
e) Severely limited in his/her ability to walk due to an arthritic or orthopedic condition or complications due
to pregnancy.
f) Certified legally blind.
g) Missing one or more limbs which impair mobility.
h) Temporary permit must be signed by a physician licensed to practice medicine or surgery, osteopathic
medicine, chiropractic medicine, podiatric medicine, or optometry. A licensed physician assistant, or a licensed and certified advanced registered nurse practitioner, or SNU Head Coach or Athletic Director may also authorize an SNU temporary permit. SNU certified athletic trainers may petition their Coaching Staff on
behalf of an athlete to obtain a permit.
If you require a permanent State of Oklahoma handicap permit, we suggest filing with DPS to obtain
one. Ours is only for temporary usage up to a 60 day period or until the medical doctor has cleared you from
temporary injury or illness. **The state issued permit supersedes the temporary SNU permit at all times,
if handicapped parking is limited. ** Please forward all questions to:

PAYMENT OPTIONS: If you have a balance, even with Financial Aid, for your program
or want to make payments you must sign an agreement that applies to your program. You
may pay this balance in full without penalty or pay in advance. HOWEVER, each semester
must be paid in full to continue to the next semester.
Invoice payments may be made in one (1) of three (3) ways:
1. Credit card- Includes Visa, Master, Discover, and American Express (A convenience fee
of 6% will be charged.) We accept credit card payments over the phone, in person, or
online.
2. Online-Payments may be made at portal.snu.edu- Credit or Debit Cards are accepted. (A
convenience fee of 2.6% will be charged.)- e-check is a free option.
3. In person-During regular scheduled office hours in Royce Brown or Bresee.
Please be advised, there is a $25 fee for any returned checks which is due immediately. Continued infractions may result in a withdrawal from your modules and/or program. We are not responsible for payments not posted in our system due to card, computer, or postal delays.

Financial Aid Tips
Loans:
A FAFSA should be completed after you file taxes each year. This ensures that a new FAFSA will be avail-
able for Financial Aid in case it is needed and also takes away the stress of wondering if you need to complete one.
The FAFSA is applicable for July-June of the school year. Make sure to use the DRT (Data Retreivel Tool) for accurate processing.
It is good idea to complete a FAFSA just in case an unforeseen incident occurs and you are no longer able to
make monthly payments or receive employer reimbursement. FAFSA is not just for loans, but the financial aid counselor is also able to see if you qualify for Pell Grant as well.
If you receive funding for your education that will be sent to SNU, Financial Aid will need to be notified in
order for your financial aid to be adjusted to fit the budget guidelines. Failure to do this may cause you to be over
awarded for that year and an out of pocket expense can occur.
Once you are aware that there will be a change in your educational plan either you need to withdraw or
switch to another group, Financial Aid must be contacted as soon as possible to discuss the implications this
change may cause. Failure to do so may cause you to have an out of pocket expense. Such expenses can prevent you
from re-entering until the account is brought to positive status.
When awarded funds you are given the max amount of loans. Once loans are awarded you cannot receive
additional funding due to personal need.
Disbursements/Refunds:
Refunds are disbursed after attendance has been verified for your second module of each new semester.
Once attendance has been verified, the following Tuesday of that week loans are added to your account and any refund that you will receive will be available to you the following Friday after 1 p.m.
Payments:

Weather Reminders
Please be reminded that the weather is watched
closely. You and your class will be informed of
class cancellations via SNU Alert! at the same time
that all university employees are informed. Of
course, this is location sensitive. It is important to
note that an individual instructor or Program Director does not cancel a class session. This is a university decision.
If you receive notification that land module sessions
have been cancelled, since we do not adjust program calendars to reschedule class sessions, the
individual instructor will contact his/her learners via
SNU email and will provide instructional guidance,
which may include, but is not limited to, encouraging learners to turn in work electronically, in addition to providing a way for a contingency/
substitute method to meet session learning objectives. The contingency/substitute session may include the use of Online methods such as a Discussion Forum, review of posted Power Points with discussion, review of posted videos with discussion,
review of posted assignments with discussion, etc.
SNU-Tulsa Testing Center
In addition to the College Level Exam Program (CLEP), SNU-Tulsa now has 38 Dantes Subject
Standardized Test (DSST) exams available in our Testing Center. Both CLEP and DSST exams
are recommended for credit by American Council on Education (ACE).
The SNU-Tulsa Testing Center has been open since February, 2013 and currently administers an
average of three tests per week. This is a valuable service for learners entering one of our degree programs, learners meeting graduation requirements, and for the surrounding community.

Important Bethany Campus Information: Severe Weather Preparation Reminder
The spring storm season is almost upon us. We need to be aware of changing weather conditions during this season. This
email is a reminder of the basic points of SNU's emergency notification primarily for our Bethany Campus should we be
advised to "take shelter" in severe weather.
Of course, our local weather stations will be providing detailed weather and storm coverage. In addition to local weather coverage, the call to “take shelter” here at SNU Bethany campus may come via one of the following three sources.
Please take shelter when you receive instructions to do so from any of the following:
a. Siren is activated atop SNU’s Science Building
b. SNU Alert! messages (may be text message only or voice/text/email)
c. Direct instruction given by designated university officials such as:
1. Safety and Security staff member
2. Building Emergency Coordinators
3. University Administrator or his/her designee
4. EMS officials such as the Fire Dept or Police
Each building on the SNU campus and other off-campus locations has posted SEVERE WEATHER GUIDELINES which includes instructions in case of severe weather and the shelter location for that building. Be sure to familiarize yourself with
the guidelines.

SIREN INFORMATION
The following information is provided regarding siren procedures:
1. There is no uniform national or statewide policy governing the use of sirens. Each city constructs its own policy.
2. The siren on the roof of SNU’s Beaver Science Hall is activated by the Bethany Fire Department, as are all sirens located in the city of Bethany.
3. The sirens located and operated in the city of Bethany are activated when a determination is made that the city of
Bethany, itself, is in the path of severe weather that has produced or may produce a tornado. Sirens are sounded to
alert citizens to be "weather aware," and to take safety precautions in the event severe weather strikes.
4. The city of Oklahoma City, in contrast, activates their sirens if the National Weather Service has issued a tornado
warning for any part of Oklahoma County. Since SNU is located in Oklahoma county and is adjacent to OKC, this
may help explain why we (at SNU) at times can hear sirens in a distant location, while the siren atop the Science
Building is silent.
5. The siren sounds each time there is a warning. For example, if the National Weather Service issues multiple tornado
warnings over a period of time, then sirens will sound multiple times.
6. The sirens sound for a predetermined amount of time. The sound of the siren ending does not mean the danger has
gone away.
7. There is no “all-clear” siren. If you hear a siren sound a second time, it means there are more severe storms in the
Bethany area.

Important Tulsa Information: Severe Weather Preparation Reminders
In case of tornado or severe thunder storm, please take shelter in the indicated, window-free fire exit lobbies on the first
floor. Locations are marked with lighted ceiling signs and are posted in each classroom. Kindly check to see that all in
the group are accounted for and are not in restrooms or other common areas. Notification of immediate need to take
shelter will come in one or more of the following methods:
1. Via an individual’s smart phones or other devices
2. Notification from SNU-Tulsa director or her designee
3. SNU-Alert system notice
4. Public officials such as police or fire departments
