Indian Trust Settlement|Cobell ~ Update!!
IMPORTANT DATES:
• Friday, September 16, 2011 is the deadline to file a Claim form (if necessary). Please
see “Steps to filing a Claim” below ↓
• Tuesday, October 4, 2011 is the deadline for appeals in the District Appellate Court. An
appeal has been filed on 8/6/11. There is a 60 day waiting period for any appeals to be
filed…More updates of $tage 1 and 2 distribution to come as the deadline approaches...
• The Claims line can now provide the “Estimated Award Amount” for the Trust
Administration Class (varies per individual).
1. Contact the Indian Trust Settlement Claims Line at 1-800-961-6109 to VERIFY that you
are included in the claim. They will verify your claim through your name, address, Tribal ID, last 4
of SSN, DOB and tell you whether you are in the following classes:

2. Provide the operator ALL claim numbers (located on the front of the white envelope below the bar
code) you have received in Indian Trust Settlement|Cobell class action correspondence.
• Let the operator know if you have received multiple envelopes.
3. The operator will ask you personal information to locate your claim in the system. The operator is
NOT a BIA or OST employee, but rather an employee of a company that the court has retained to
implement the Cobell settlement. They have received information from BIA|OST, but do NOT
have complete information on your IIM accounts, trust assets (including lease or probate
information). Please contact Office of Special Trustee (OST) at (541) 278-3786 or OST Trust
Beneficiary Call Center 1-888-678-6836 for more information regarding your IIM Account.

Do NOT assume you are “already in the system” even if you own allotted trust land|s or have an
open IIM account. It is important that you call the claims line to VERIFY that you are included
in Historical Accounting and|or Trust Administration.
“The United States District Court for the District of Columbia granted Final Approval (on 8/4/11) for the Indian Trust
Settlement at the Fairness Hearing. You can review a copy of the Order Granting Final Approval to Settlement|the Final
Judgment|the Fairness Hearing Transcript on www.indiantrust.com in Court Documents. All individuals who believe that they are
entitled to participate in the Settlement as a member of the Trust Administration Class and who are required under the terms of the
Settlement Agreement to submit a Claim Form must do so by mailing a properly completed and signed form to the Claims
Administrator postmarked no later than September 16, 2011.” Also, on August 6, 2011, a Notice of Appeal was filed with the

4. If you have NOT received a Claim form and cannot verify your claim, but you believe you should be
included in the Cobell settlement complete the Claim Form postmarked by 9/16/11 to:
• Mail: Indian Trust Settlement - P.O. Box 9577, Dublin, OH 43017-4877;or
• Online: http://www.indiantrust.com →“file a claim”→“file a claim electronically”→”start your
online claim here”→ https://cert.gardencitygroup.com/iim/fs/newClaim
5. You should be a part of: one (1) or both classes of the Cobell settlement if you were alive on
September 30, 2009 and:
• Historical Accounting Class -> Had an open IIM account between October 25, 1994 and
September 30, 2009 (~15 years) with at least one (1) completed cash transaction (complete
Section B of Claim form if a claim cannot be located in the system); or
• Trust Administration Class -> Had an open IIM Account between approximately 1985 and
September 30, 2009 (~24 years) and owned interest in land held in trust or restricted status
(complete Section A of Claim form if a claim cannot be located in the system);
• Are an Heir to a deceased IIM Account holder|owner of trust assets who would have
qualified as a member of the Historical Accounting and|or Trust Administration Class
(complete Section C of Claim form)
Note: If the estate is NOT closed, the heirs will receive the decedent’s settlement amount in the
final probate distribution with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Hearings and Appeals.
